Ragnaroll
Cannabis farming in Valheim, with real agronomy: every strain hides its own ideal fertilizer mix, and it is up to you to find it, harvest after harvest. Twenty-four strains, crossbreeding to obtain them, and buds to smoke whose effects change the way you play.
The loop
- Buy seeds from Haldor. Rare strains cost more.
- Set your N-P-K fertilizer mix before planting.
- Plant with the cultivator, on cultivated ground.
- Tend: water when the plant is thirsty, prune once it is halfway through its cycle. A tended plant ripens sooner.
- Harvest: the closer your mix was to the strain's ideal, the better the harvest.
- Smoke the buds for their effect, or sell them to Haldor and reinvest in better seeds.
Right-click a seed pack to open its strain sheet: the mix for your next plantings, the log of your attempts, and everything you know about the strain.
Fertilizer
Every strain has a perfect mix, never shown. You set yours, you grow, and the harvest gives you a quality.
N5 P5 K5 → quality 61%
N4 P6 K6 → quality 79% getting warmer
The nutrition log keeps every attempt, strain by strain. It follows your character: your expertise travels with you from world to world.
The curve is forgiving near the optimum and harsh beyond it: you feel yourself getting closer without ever being handed the answer.
Harvest quality
Every harvest comes out in one of four qualities, depending on your mix:
| Quality | Mix | Bud price | Effect duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Poor | far off | ×0.5 | ×0.5 |
| Common | in the neighbourhood | ×1 | ×1 |
| Superior | one or two notches off | ×1.5 | ×2 |
| Legendary | exact | ×2.5 | ×4 |
Your mix also decides how many buds and seeds you get back: a failed harvest does not return its seed. Keeping your legendary buds gives more effect per coin than selling them.
Effects
Every strain has its effect: strength, stealth, stamina, poison or frost resistance, woodcutting, magic, speed, carry weight, swimming, jumping... And every strain has its drawback. A bud's tooltip details both.
Only one strain works at a time: a new bud replaces the current effect. CBD strains are the exception. They heal, with no drawback at all, stack with your active strain, but share the cooldown of healing meads: one or the other. Their quality multiplies the healing instead of the duration.
Tending
Look at a sprout: hovering tells you how it is doing and what it needs.
Midgard Skunk ( healthy )
Growing well, thirsty
[E] Water
One key, empty-handed. It waters if the plant is thirsty, and prunes otherwise. Nothing to craft, nothing to carry: what the key will do is written on screen. Rain waters your crops too.
Full tending brings the harvest forward by up to 40%. It changes nothing about its quality, which depends on the mix alone. Watering does not make up for a bad fertilizer, it saves you time.
Haldor's landraces
| Strain | Growth | Resale | Yield |
|---|---|---|---|
| Midgard Skunk | short | modest | 1 to 4 buds |
| Nott Mist | medium | fair | 1 to 5 buds |
| Yggdrahaze | medium | fair | 1 to 5 buds |
| Draugr Kush | medium | fair | 1 to 5 buds |
| Skadi Lights | long | good | 1 to 5 buds |
| Lox Ryder | very short | modest | 1 to 4 buds |
| Galdr Dream | long | high | 1 to 6 buds |
| Meadtonic | medium | fair | 1 to 5 buds |
Haldor sells two from the start, then one more after each boss, up to the Queen. Each one answers the biome that opens up. The later a landrace arrives, the harder its ideal mix is to guess: you will have to search for it.
Crossbreeding
The sixteen other strains cannot be bought: they are born from crosses.
Plant two strains next to each other, less than two metres apart. When a plant ripens, its nearest neighbour of another strain pollinates it. If the pair is the right one, the harvest returns the seeds of a new strain; otherwise, its own seeds, and you know that pair gives nothing. The number of seeds always follows your mix: a right pair with a poor mix is discovered, but returns nothing.
The tree has four generations:
- two landraces give a hybrid. The first, Fenrisdawg, is born from the two starting landraces; seven more wait for their parents to be on sale;
- a hybrid and a landrace give a second generation;
- two hybrids give a legendary. Two of them wait for one of the last bosses to fall: until then the right pair gives nothing, and the harvest tells you which boss it is waiting for.
A hybrid belongs to the family of at least one of its parents, and its ideal mix is close to the average of theirs: the parents' logs give you a lead. Legendaries are the exception. Their mix strays from their lineage, and has to be searched for.
To search without testing at random, the strain sheet has a Crosses tab: the pairs already tried with that strain, and what they gave. The Collection tab, on the right edge of the window, shows a slot for each of the twenty-four strains; the ones you are missing stay empty. In the field, a ripe plant tells you on hover who pollinated it.
Tolerance
Chain-smoking ends in vomiting. Every bud adds to a saturation that wears off over time, in proportion to its effect's duration; the bud too many is lost, its effect with it, and your meal goes too, as with Bukeperries. CBD strains do not count.
You will see no number and no countdown: your eyelids droop. Two black bands come down from the top and bottom of the screen as saturation rises, and when they grow heavy and waver, the next bud is one too many: it shuts your eyes for a few seconds, and you vomit while they open again. Wait for them to lift.
The Tolerance skill rises as you smoke and drops on death, like the others. At level 0, a single bud takes you to the edge; at level 100, about ten ordinary buds in a row are fine.
Multiplayer
The mod must be installed on the server and on every client, at the same version. The connection is refused with an explicit message otherwise.
This is not an excessive precaution: plants exist in the world as objects of their own. A client that does not know them cannot see them, floods its log with errors, and can silently make buds stored in a chest disappear.
Settings come from the server, except the language and the verbose log: a given crop behaves the same way for everyone. Only an admin can change them during a game.
The mod runs on dedicated servers, Windows and Linux alike.

Installation
With a mod manager (r2modman, Gale, Thunderstore Mod Manager): install Ragnaroll, and its dependencies, BepInEx and Jötunn, come with it.
By hand: install BepInExPack Valheim and Jötunn first, then put
Ragnaroll.dll in BepInEx/plugins/Ragnaroll/. The Nexus Mods archive already
has that layout: extract it into your Valheim folder. On a dedicated server, do
the same in the server's folder.
Built with Claude
Ragnaroll is designed and directed by grogui, and developed with Claude, Anthropic's AI model. The code, the scripts that generate the plant models and textures, and this page were written with Claude; the strain illustrations are AI-generated. grogui reviews the code, and every feature is tested in game before release.
CHANGELOG
Changelog
1.4.0
Install on the server and on every player at once: 1.3.x and 1.4.0 refuse to connect to each other.
- Rolling papers, crafted at the workbench from wood and resin once you know a bud.
- Roll joints by dropping a bud onto rolling papers, or the papers onto a bud: it takes a moment, like crafting, and can be cancelled.
- Buds are rolled, no longer smoked: a joint keeps its bud's strain and quality.
- Quality shows as stars on bud and joint icons, hotbar included.
- A churchwarden pipe, crafted at the workbench: fill it with up to ten buds of one strain and quality, smoke them one at a time, Shift+click to empty it.
1.3.0
Install on the server and on every player at once: 1.2.x and 1.3.0 refuse to connect to each other.
- Seeds follow the harvest's quality. A poor harvest returns no seed, a common or superior one returns the seed you planted, and only a legendary one returns two. Until now, even an untouched mix doubled your field at every harvest, and Haldor's seeds were only ever bought once: a field now grows by finding the strain's mix. A cross follows the same rule, on the quality of the pollinated plant.
- Fewer buds per plant. Every strain yields two buds fewer at best: 2 for ruderalis and Midgard Skunk, 3 for most strains, 4 for Galdr Dream, Loki Haze, Thor OG and Odin Cure. A plant still gives at least one, and the mix still sets the quality, hence the price and the duration.
- A simpler, shorter comedown. Every bud now weighs the same: whatever its
strain or quality, it wears off in 2 minutes for a beginner, where a long
legendary used to keep you from smoking for most of an hour. The higher your
Tolerance, the faster it wears off: 37 seconds at level 50, 14 at level 90.
How many buds you can chain still grows with the skill, mostly near the top,
and a beginner's second bud still makes them vomit if lit too soon. At level
100, smoking no longer saturates you at all, however many buds you smoke.
Every bud also teaches the same amount of Tolerance. The speed at the top is
a new server setting,
Saturation wear-off speed at level 100. - A night's sleep clears your head. Sleeping through the night now empties the saturation, as vomiting does: you wake up with your eyelids wide open and can smoke again. Lying in bed without the night passing is not enough.
- Smoking shows, and sounds like it. Lighting up a bud lets out a puff of smoke, then a thin trail follows you for 15 seconds, with another puff now and then. It sounds like a candle being blown out, no longer like chewing. The players around you see and hear it too.
- New admin command
ragnaroll_clearsaturation: empties your saturation, as a night's sleep does. The host and the server's admins can use it withoutdevcommands, on a dedicated server too.
1.2.1
Compatible with 1.2.0: the server and each player can update in their own time.
- The eyelids can be turned off. The new
Eyelid overlaysetting, under04 - Effects, removes the black bands that close in as you smoke, for a clear view in combat. Nothing then warns you that the next bud is one too many. Each player sets it for themselves, even on a server.
1.2.0
Install on the server and on every player at once: 1.1.0 and 1.2.0 refuse to connect to each other.
- Each family grows its own plant. Indicas grow broad and bushy, sativas tall and slender, ruderalis smaller and sparse, and CBD strains keep the plant you know. Every plant also grows straight or leaning, faces its own way and differs a little in size: a field no longer looks copy-pasted. A plant keeps its shape from sprout to harvest, and every player sees the same one. Plants already in the ground change too.
- A ripe plant's size shows its quality. A poor harvest stands smaller, a superior or legendary one taller. Sprouts give nothing away.
- Tending now really saves 40%. Sprouts get thirsty more often, about every
10 minutes instead of 17 on a 120-minute strain. Until now, plants often
ripened before their last waterings, and even perfect tending could save as
little as 30% of the growth time. Plants already in the ground switch to the
new pace right away and keep the time they have gained. A lower
Time saved by tendingalso spaces thirst out, back to the old pace at 0. - No more random extra bud at harvest. The game's Farming bonus could add a bud, with a "+1", that the harvest message and the nutrition log did not count. What drops now always matches them. Picking still raises Farming.
- The scythe harvests ripe plants, like the game's crops. A swing that cuts several plants shows one total, such as "5 plants harvested: 14 buds, 3 seeds", and the strain sheet still logs every plant with its own mix and quality. As with the game's crops, the scythe also destroys sprouts that are not healthy.
- Seed packs are sold by Haldor only. Hildir and the Bog Witch stocked them too; they no longer do.
- Haldor's shop keeps your selection after a purchase. A second click on Buy no longer buys the first item on his list instead of the seed pack, and a gamepad now reaches every seed pack.
- Multiplayer: a harvest is logged once. Holding the use key on a plant owned by another player could log and announce the same harvest twice.
- Your fertilizer mix no longer resets to 0-0-0 when the connection drops while the strain sheet is open on its Nutrition tab.
- Gamepad: the strain sheet's tabs ignore LT, which also splits stacks, and no longer show an "LT" hint.
- The collection counts in the singular too: "1 strain discovered out of 24, none grown".
- Seed pack prices round half up, like bud prices. Nothing changes at the
default price; with an odd
Base seed pack price, Yggdrahaze, Lox Ryder and Skadi Lights may cost one coin more. - New console command
ragnaroll_seeds [count], withdevcommands: givescountseeds, 5 by default, of all 24 strains, to try crosses and legendaries without earning them. - A shorter mod page, which leaves the mechanics to discover in game. Seed pack descriptions no longer tell what decides the harvest either.
1.1.0
Install on the server and on every player at once: 1.0.0 and 1.1.0 refuse to connect to each other.
- New setting,
Only bosses defeated with the mod, in02 - Trade, on by default. On a world where bosses were defeated before Ragnaroll was installed, their strains no longer unlock right away: players must defeat them again. The game's own progression is unaffected. Bosses count from 1.1.0 on, so bosses defeated under 1.0.0 must be defeated again too, unless you turn the setting off.
