Playground

Games and toys to enjoy with everyone who has the mod, on any server: Tag and a swing set, with more on the way.

Tag

1. Click the little star button on the left of your screen (or press J) and choose Start a round of Tag. Drag the button to put it wherever you like.
2. Everyone nearby with Playground gets a notice and has 10 seconds to join by pressing Y.
3. Everyone who joined is sent back to spawn and a 5 second countdown begins.
4. One player is picked at random to be it. A glowing white star floats above their head, and they run 30% faster. "It" has to wait out the countdown, so everyone else gets a head start.
5. Touch someone to make them it. You can't tag back the player who just tagged you for 3 seconds.
6. After 3 minutes the round ends and everyone sees how long each player was it. Least time wins.

You can leave a round any time from the J menu. If whoever is it leaves, someone else is picked.

Swing set

1. Open the Playground menu and choose Place a swing set. It goes up right in front of you, facing you. Choose Pick up your swing set to take it down. Everyone can put up one.
2. Walk up to a seat and press E to sit. There are two seats, so bring a friend.
3. The swing sways a little on its own. Press Space right at the top of each swing, front or back, to pump and go higher. A bar at the bottom of the screen lights up when it's time. A press at the wrong moment costs a little height.
4. At full height, press Space at the top of the forward swing to let go and fly across the sky, just like a blue mushroom.
5. Press E to get off.

Players with Playground see the swing set. Players without it still see you sitting and swinging, just in mid air.

Good to know

• Only players with Playground take part or see the star. Everyone else sees nothing unusual.
• Everything goes through the Steam lobby, so it works on any server and needs nothing from the host.

• The Playground menu shows how many other players here have Playground ("2 others here", in cyan when anyone's around), so you can see if there's someone to start a game with.

• Tag and Hide and Seek: whoever was picked as "it" or the seeker last round isn't picked again for the next one (as long as there's someone else to pick), so nobody gets stuck with it twice in a row.

• Hide and Seek: seekers really can't see the hiders' names now. (The name tag is moved out of the player when it spawns, so the old way of hiding it missed it.) Speech bubbles still show, so talking gives you away.

• New game: Hide and Seek. 45 seconds to hide while the seeker's screen is dark, then 5 minutes to search. Get close and press F to find someone. The starter chooses whether found hiders join the seekers or are out. Seekers can't see hiders' name tags.

• During the countdown everyone is told what to do: runners get "RUN! ... starts chasing in 4...", and "it" is told to wait for the count.
