README

Big Walk Photo Mode

A free-roam photo mode for Big Walk. Detach the camera from your character, fly it anywhere, and take shots your friends will actually want to see — with your full body visible, controllable lighting and time of day, and a few composition tools to help frame the shot.

Everything is client-side: your character stays put in the world while your camera roams free, and nobody else in the session sees or is affected by anything you do in photo mode.

Features

  • Free camera — fly anywhere with WASD/mouse, independent of your character.
  • Full character model — the game normally hides your own head/torso from your own camera (it's built for first person); photo mode switches you to the same "remote" body other players see, so your character shows up complete in frame.
  • Time of day control — scrub through a full day/night cycle locally, without fighting the session's synced clock.
  • Flashlight — a spotlight you can toggle, either camera-mounted (like you're filming) or attached to your character pointing upward (campfire-story vibes).
  • Background blur — depth-of-field that auto-focuses on your character, wherever the camera is.
  • Composition grid & cinema bars — a rule-of-thirds overlay and letterbox bars, purely visual guides (never captured in a screenshot).
  • Camera bookmarks — save up to 5 camera positions and smoothly glide between them.
  • Auto tour — hands-free: the camera automatically glides through every saved bookmark on a loop, pausing at each one. Perfect for a slideshow-style capture without having to time your key presses. Any manual movement cancels it instantly.
  • Recenter — snap the camera back to your head at any time without leaving photo mode.
  • Gestures (experimental, off by default) — optionally keep the game's normal wave/gesture controls working while frozen in photo mode.

Screenshots are not handled by this mod — use Steam's own screenshot key (F12 by default) once you've framed your shot. Press H first to hide this mod's own on-screen help panel so it doesn't end up in the photo.

Requirements

Developed and tested against BepInEx 6.0.0-be.785+6abdba4. It should work fine with the Thunderstore-published BepInExPack IL2CPP release declared as a dependency, since nothing in this mod touches BepInEx-version-specific internals — but if you hit a loading issue, try updating to the latest BepInExPack IL2CPP build first.

Known limitations

  • Gestures are experimental and off by default — enabling them can, in rare cases, trigger unexpected sound effects (like footstep audio) since it forces a game subsystem to keep running while your character is otherwise frozen.
  • There is no in-game weather to control — Big Walk doesn't use Enviro's dynamic weather module, only its time-of-day system, which this mod already exposes.

Installation

Mod manager (recommended): install via r2modman, Thunderstore Mod Manager, or Gale — the BepInEx dependency is installed automatically.

Manual: extract the plugins/BigWalkPhotoMode.dll file into <Big Walk install folder>/BepInEx/plugins/BigWalkPhotoMode/, after installing BepInExPack IL2CPP yourself.

Feedback

Found a bug or have an idea for a feature? Let me know — this is a first release and I'm actively iterating on it.
