TracerFX
Glowing tracers for every gun in BONELAB, styled after airsoft. Each shot launches a glowing BB that follows real airsoft ballistics. Gravity pulls it down, hop-up lifts it, air drag slows it, and it can bounce off walls. You can configure all of this in BoneMenu.
Tracers are visual only. They don't change damage, accuracy, or where the real bullets go.
Features
Three tracer modes
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Airsoft | A glowing BB with gravity, hop-up lift, air drag, and ricochets. If you tilt the gun sideways, the hop-up curves the BB sideways, the same way a real one does. |
| Bullet | A fast, straight tracer with no drop. |
| Laser | An instant beam to the hit point that fades out. |
Color
- 10 presets: Green, Red, Orange, Yellow, Lime, Cyan, Blue, Purple, Pink, White
- Custom RGB sliders
- Rainbow mode with adjustable speed, which looks great on full-auto
- Random Per Shot
- Per Hand mode, with a separate color for guns in your left and right hands
- Glow intensity slider
Ballistics
- BB speed in FPS (100–700)
- Gravity, Hop-Up, and Air Drag strength
- Spread
- Ricochets (0–5) and bounciness
- Tracer Time Scale: slows only the tracers down, for cinematic shots
- Bullet Mode speed
- One-tap presets: Stock AEG, Sniper, Pistol, Moon Gravity
Visuals and impacts
- BB size, trail length, and trail width
- Glow-in-the-Dark Fade: the BB slowly loses its glow as it flies, like a real tracer unit's charge
- Tracer Unit Flash: a glow at the muzzle on each shot
- An option for BBs to light up nearby surfaces as they pass
- An impact flash where the BB hits, with adjustable size and an optional light
Orange tip
- Turn on Orange Tip to give every gun a blaze-orange muzzle tip, like a real airsoft replica.
- Adjust the tip's diameter, length, and offset to fit different barrels.
- Match Tracer Color tints the tip to match your tracer preset.
- Tips are purely cosmetic and have no collider.
LabFusion multiplayer
- Other players who run TracerFX see your tracers exactly as you set them up, including color, mode, BB speed, hop-up, and trail. You see theirs the same way.
- Your orange tip is shared too. Guns you hold show your tip to other TracerFX players, in your chosen color.
- On the Fusion page, you can choose whether to share your tracers and tip, and whether to show other players' tracers and tips.
- Fusion Status shows how many players in your lobby are running TracerFX.
- Players without TracerFX don't see any tracers or tips.
- Fusion is optional. Without it, TracerFX works normally in singleplayer.
Filters and performance
- Performance Profile: Auto, High, Standalone, or Low. Auto uses Standalone on Quest/Android and High on PC.
- Standalone keeps tracers cheap on mobile hardware. It turns off real-time lights, allows up to 60 tracers at a time, runs fewer raycasts per BB, uses shorter trails with fewer vertices, caps shotgun pellets at 4, and updates the glow fade less often.
- Low goes further. It allows up to 24 tracers, caps pellets at 2, and turns off the muzzle flash.
- Profiles only cap your settings. They never overwrite them, so switching back to High restores everything.
- Everything uses tiny low-poly meshes (a 20-triangle BB and a 48-triangle tip), and orange tips track guns without searching the scene.
- Player Guns Only: hide tracers from NPC guns
- A tracer only on every Nth shot
- A tracer for each shotgun pellet
- A cap on how many tracers can exist at once, and a maximum lifetime for each
- Notifications on or off, plus a live count of tracers in flight
BoneMenu
Open BoneMenu → TracerFX. The top level has:
- the Tracers Enabled toggle
- the Mode and quick Color pickers
- the Test Shot button, which fires a preview tracer from your head
- the Orange Tip toggle
- the Clear All Tracers and Reset To Defaults buttons
There are also sub-pages for Orange Tip, Color, Ballistics, Visuals, Impacts, Fusion, and Filters & Performance.
All settings save automatically to UserData/MelonPreferences.cfg under [TracerFX].
Installation
Mod manager (recommended): install with r2modman or the Thunderstore Mod Manager. MelonLoader and BoneLib are installed for you.
Manual install:
- Install MelonLoader 0.7.2 or newer.
- Install BoneLib 3.2.1 or newer.
- Put
TracerFX.dllinBONELAB/Mods/.
Compatibility
- Works on PC (Steam and Oculus PC) with MelonLoader.
- On Quest/standalone, it needs a MelonLoader setup that can load code mods there. When it runs on Android, it switches to the Standalone profile automatically.
- Don't run it alongside another tracer mod, or every shot will get two tracers.
- LabFusion is supported (built for Fusion 1.14). Each player who wants to see tracers needs TracerFX installed.
Troubleshooting
If no tracers appear, check MelonLoader/Latest.log for lines that start with [TracerFX]. A warning about a missing shader means the mod couldn't find a material to draw with yet. It tries again on every level load.
