ClimbAnything Weapon Fix

1.0.2 — fixed the grip handling that caused a "sticky" hand with ClimbAnything: holding grip before you reach a surface no longer makes it grab on by itself.

Grip a weapon, get launched across the map? Hands going sticky when you're already holding grip? This fixes both.

An add-on for ClimbAnything by Waspothegreat. It does not replace it, modify it, or contain any part of it — you need ClimbAnything installed, and it keeps working exactly as it always has.

Problem 1 — grabbing a weapon launches you

Pick a gun up off a table, a shelf, a rack, or anywhere near a wall, and ClimbAnything can decide that hand is climbing at the same moment BONELAB decides it's grabbing. Your hand ends up welded to the world and holding the weapon, the physics solver picks a fight with itself, and you go flying. It happens most on the left hand, and pressing the trigger before you grip seems to dodge it.

The fix: before ClimbAnything starts a climb, check whether BONELAB has that hand attached to something, or is about to. If so, no climb anchor gets made. As a backstop, if a hand somehow ends up climbing and holding something, the anchor is torn down through ClimbAnything's own release path.

Problem 2 — sticky hands

ClimbAnything treats a held grip as a standing request to climb. Squeeze in open air, walk your hand into a wall ten seconds later, and it grabs on by itself. Hold both grips and every surface you brush becomes a climb you didn't ask for.

The fix: a climb now needs a grip press at the wall, not a grip that was already held when you got there.

  • Touch the wall, press grip → climbs, instantly, same as always.
  • Hold grip, then reach the wall → nothing. Let go, press again, and it climbs.

Each hand is completely independent. Holding grip in your left never blocks or arms your right. There's no added delay: pressing grip while your hand is already at the surface climbs on the same frame it always did.

One thing to know

Falling with the grip already squeezed no longer snags a wall on the way past — nothing attaches, so ClimbStamina's panic grab won't fire either. Time the press instead. That's the rule working, not a bug: if a held grip could still catch surfaces, the sticky hands would be right back.

Settings

In BoneMenu under ClimbAnything Weapon Fix:

Setting Default What it does
Enabled On The weapon-grab fix. Off = ClimbAnything can climb on a hand that's grabbing again.
Block pending grabs On Also blocks the instant before a grab completes. This is the part that closes the gap. Turn it off if you ever feel it refusing a climb you wanted.
Require grip press On The sticky-hand fix. Off = ClimbAnything's original hold-to-climb behaviour comes back.
Grip press window (ms) 80 How much slack there is between pressing grip and reaching the surface. Reaching and squeezing is one motion, so this covers arriving a frame or two after the press. Lower is stricter; 0 means they must land on the same frame.
Diagnostic logging Off Logs each grab to the MelonLoader console. Only useful for bug reports.

The two fixes are independent — you can run either one on its own.

Safety

If ClimbAnything isn't installed, or a future version changes internally, this mod says so once in the log and does nothing at all. If anything unexpected happens it fails open — ClimbAnything behaves exactly as if this mod weren't there. It can never break the mod it's patching.

Works alongside ClimbStamina: stamina drain, exhaustion, forced release and recovery all still behave normally. After you recover, a grip you never let go of won't silently reattach — press again, and it climbs.
