BONELAB Fusion Killer Mode
Killer Mode is an experimental asymmetric horror gamemode for BONELAB Fusion. One player becomes the Killer while everyone else becomes a Survivor. Survivors must hide until the timer ends or escape through a timed exit while the Killer hunts them.
The main purpose of this mod is to help Fusion hosts create and host horror games on ordinary or custom BONELAB maps. The host can place saved spawns, spectator areas, escape doors, and objectives directly in-game without using Unity, then configure the roles, equipment, atmosphere, timers, and round rules from the Fusion menu.
Requirements
- BONELAB on Windows PC
- MelonLoader 0.6.x
- BONELAB Fusion 1.14.2
- BoneLib 3.2.2
- The same Killer Mode version installed by every player
Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman installs Fusion and BoneLib automatically. Killer Mode is a code mod, so joining a Fusion lobby does not automatically download it. Every player must launch the same mod profile before joining.
Main Features
- Host-authoritative Killer, Survivor, and Spectator roles
- Survival and Escape game modes
- Random, host, or rotating Killer selection
- Custom Killer avatars, weapons, Survivor weapons, and flashlights
- Inventory and ammunition clearing at round start
- Automatic removal of spawned round items when the round ends
- Saved per-map lobby, Killer, Survivor, Spectator, door, and escape positions
- Animated brown escape door with a white light when it opens
- Host-only start, pause, resume, and stop controls
- Configurable timers, health, speed, darkness, fog, and role balance
- Countdown, round-start, final-seconds, Last Survivor, round-end, and heartbeat sounds
- Last Survivor location reveal visible only to the Killer
- Spectator-only voice chat
- In-game map setup tools and a separate Map SDK for map creators
Flashbangs are temporarily disabled in multiplayer while they are being tested.
Installing and Starting
- Install this package with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman.
- Give every player the same Thunderstore profile or package list.
- Launch the modded game and create or join a Fusion lobby.
- Load a playable level. The BONELAB Hub is not treated as a playable Killer Mode map.
- Open the Fusion menu and go to Gamemodes.
- Select Killer Mode.
- The host configures the roles, equipment, round rules, and map positions.
- Select START ROUND NOW, or use Fusion's automatic round countdown.
For manual installation, copy BONELABFusionKillerMode.dll from this package's Mods folder into the BONELAB Mods folder. Fusion and BoneLib must also be installed.
Roles and Objectives
Killer
The Killer sees a red YOU ARE THE KILLER - KILL ALL SURVIVORS message. Survivors receive a configurable head start, during which the Killer is held at the Killer spawn and cannot attack. When the Hunt begins, the selected weapon spawns and the Killer can move.
Eliminate every living Survivor before the timer reaches zero. In Escape Mode, stop Survivors from reaching the green Escape Zone after the door opens. The host can configure Killer health, speed, mortality, and whether Survivors can damage the Killer.
If the Killer loses the weapon, the host can use RECOVER LOST KILLER WEAPON after the Hunt begins. A short cooldown prevents accidental repeated spawning.
Survivors
Survivors see a green YOU ARE A SURVIVOR - HIDE OR ESCAPE message. Their inventory can be cleared when the round starts, and the selected flashlight or optional Survivor weapon spawns at the cyan Survivor circles.
- In Survival Mode, stay alive until the timer reaches
00:00. - In Escape Mode, wait for EXIT OPEN, then physically enter the green Escape Zone before time runs out.
- Escaping is individual. An escaped Survivor keeps the win even if another Survivor remains behind.
Last Survivor
When only one living Survivor remains, the Last Survivor announcement and horror sound play. Only the final Survivor hears the looping heartbeat. The heartbeat becomes faster during the final seconds.
If enabled by the host, the Killer periodically sees the final Survivor's location through walls for a short time. The reveal does not show a health bar and never activates while two or more Survivors remain.
Spectators
Eliminated players, escaped players, and late joiners become Spectators until the next round. Spectators cannot fight, grab active round items, or enter an Escape Zone.
Spectators have a private voice group. They can speak with other Spectators, but the Killer and living Survivors cannot hear them, and Spectators cannot hear the living players.
Selecting the Killer Avatar
The host can use the current player avatar or force a built-in Strong, Heavy, Fast, or PolyBlank avatar. To select a downloaded avatar:
- Wear the desired avatar in the Body Mall.
- Open Killer Mode > Roles & Equipment.
- Select USE MY CURRENT AVATAR AS KILLER SKIN.
- The mode saves the avatar barcode and selects it for future rounds.
If another player becomes the Killer, Fusion can download the published avatar when that player has Download Avatars enabled and allows the required file size. If the avatar is missing or its download fails, Killer Mode safely uses PolyBlank for that round. Players cannot change avatars while a round is active, and their original avatar returns afterward.
Selecting Weapons and Flashlights
The easiest method is right-hand selection:
- Spawn and hold the desired item in your right hand.
- Open Killer Mode > Roles & Equipment with your left hand.
- Select the matching button:
- USE RIGHT-HAND ITEM AS KILLER WEAPON
- USE RIGHT-HAND ITEM AS SURVIVOR WEAPON
- USE RIGHT-HAND ITEM AS SURVIVOR FLASHLIGHT
- The mode reads and saves the item's SpawnableCrate barcode.
The host can also choose BONELAB's Combat Knife, a map-defined weapon, a custom barcode, or a random installed weapon. When Give Survivors Flashlights is enabled, one flashlight spawns for every Survivor inside the cyan Survivor spawn circles. All Killer Mode-spawned weapons and lights are removed after the round and created fresh for the next round.
Optional content is not bundled with Killer Mode. Every player should install the same weapon, flashlight, or avatar packs used by the host.
In-Game Map Setup
The host can prepare ordinary BONELAB or custom maps without opening Unity:
- Load the map and select Killer Mode.
- Open Killer Mode > In-Game Map Setup.
- Select BEGIN SETUP / PAUSE AUTO-START. This stops a round from beginning while you place markers.
- Walk to the desired position and face the direction players should look when they spawn.
- Use the placement button for that location.
- Add several Survivor spawns for multiplayer maps.
- Select FINISH SETUP / ALLOW ROUND START when finished.
Marker colors:
- White circle: Pre-round lobby
- Red circle: Killer spawn
- Cyan circles: Survivor spawns
- Gray circle: Spectator area
- Green area: Escape Zone
There is no separate Last Survivor spawn. The Last Survivor remains wherever they are during the round.
Layouts save automatically by the level barcode, synchronize from the host to the lobby, and remain saved after BONELAB closes. Use Undo Most Recent Survivor Spawn, Remove Escape Zone, or Clear This Map Setup to fix mistakes. Preview circles hide automatically during a round and can also be hidden using Show Colored Circles.
Creating an Escape Door
Stand facing the path where the exit should be and select SET ESCAPE DOOR AHEAD. A framed brown door appears about 1.5 metres in front of you with a green Escape Zone behind it. At the configured exit time, the blocker slides upward and a passable white light appears inside the doorway.
Removing the Escape Zone changes the map back to Survival Mode. A basic Survival setup needs at least one red Killer spawn and one cyan Survivor spawn. Lobby and Spectator locations are recommended.
Host Controls and Important Settings
- START ROUND NOW: Starts only when no round is active and the map/player requirements pass. It never interrupts a running match.
- PAUSE AUTO-START AFTER THIS ROUND: Lets the current match finish, then stops the next automatic round.
- RESUME AUTOMATIC ROUNDS: Restores Fusion's between-round countdown.
- STOP KILLER MODE (STAY STOPPED): Ends Killer Mode and prevents it from immediately starting again.
- Map Mode: Auto is recommended. A map with an Escape Zone uses Escape rules; otherwise it uses Survival rules.
- Minimum Players: Controls how many players are required before multiplayer rounds can start.
- Start Countdown: Time before roles are released.
- Killer Head Start: Extra hiding time for Survivors.
- Round Seconds: Total active round time.
- Exit Opens With Time Left: Controls when the Escape Door unlocks.
- Visible Round Timer: Shows the small glance-down timer without displaying health.
- Make Map Darker / Dark Fog: Applies synchronized horror atmosphere to everyone and restores the map afterward.
- Gameplay Preset: Classic, Casual, Hardcore, or Custom settings.
Use Fusion's existing Gamemode Rounds page for map queues, time between rounds, and rotation.

Alpha Notice and Troubleshooting
Killer Mode is experimental. Door rendering or unlocking, custom avatar downloads, item assignment, darkness, fog, and other synchronization can occasionally fail for non-host players. If a problem happens:
- Confirm everyone uses the same Killer Mode, Fusion, and BoneLib versions.
- Confirm every player installed the optional item or avatar pack.
- Test with a clean Thunderstore profile.
- Send the latest MelonLoader log and explain which player was the host, Killer, or Survivor.
