README

Suppression

Bullets that whip past your head now mess with your senses. When enemy fire passes close to you, your screen darkens with a vignette and your audio gets muffled and quieter, just like being under real fire. Get hit and the effect slams to full.

Features

  • Near-miss detection: Tracks the flight path of incoming bullets and checks how close each one passes to your head. Bullets fired at you from up to 70 metres away are picked up.
  • Distance-based intensity: The closer the shot passes, the stronger the effect. Anything within about 4 metres of your head triggers suppression, and very close calls hit hardest.
  • Visual effect: A dark vignette closes in around your vision, plus a light overall darkening.
  • Audio effect: A low-pass filter muffles the sound and the master volume drops while you're suppressed.
  • Damage response: Taking damage pushes suppression to maximum.
  • Smooth fade: The effect holds briefly, then fades out over a few seconds so it feels natural instead of flickering on and off.
  • Ignores your own shots: Bullets from you and the guns in your hands never suppress you.

Requirements

These are installed automatically if you use a mod manager such as r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager.

Installation

With a mod manager (recommended): Install the package and launch the game.

Manually: Make sure MelonLoader and BoneLib are installed, then drop Suppression.dll into your BONELAB Mods folder.

Usage

There's nothing to configure. Load into any level with peeps and the effect kicks in when shots come near you.

Known issues

  • Effect strength and timing are built in and can't be changed in-game yet.
  • Suppression is triggered when a bullet spawns, based on its aimed direction. Bullets that hit a wall before reaching you can still trigger the effect.
  • Only enemy and other non-local bullets are tracked. This may behave differently with some modded weapons or NPCs.
  • Built for the current BONELAB version (Patch 6). A future game update may break it until the mod is updated.

Changelog

2.1.2

  • Near-miss detection now projects each bullet's flight path toward your head, instead of relying on its spawn position.
  • Added a maximum tracking distance of ~70 metres.
