Grain Rot Chat Chaos
Let your viewers mess with your run. They spend channel points on your Twitch channel, and the effect happens in your game a moment later, with a banner showing who did it: a jump scare behind you, a monster spawned at your back, moon gravity, slow motion...
If an effect can't play right now (you're in a menu, in the elevator, in the wrong place, the effect is cooling down), the viewer gets the points back automatically.
Version française plus bas.
Requirements
- A Twitch channel with Affiliate or Partner status (channel points rewards created by apps need it).
- Windows, the game launched through r2modman / Thunderstore Mod Manager with this mod.
- You must be the host of the game (solo or hosting a multiplayer lobby).
First run
- Install GrainRotChatChaos with r2modman, launch the game once with mods, reach the outpost, then quit. This creates the settings file.
- In r2modman: Settings → Browse profile folder, then open
shimloader\mod\AzurIT-GrainRotChatChaos\companion\. - Double-click
Start-Companion.cmd. A window shows a code and opens twitch.tv/activate: log in with your channel's account, type the code, accept. The app only asks to read and manage channel points redemptions. - The window says
14 rewards ready: the rewards now exist on your channel, paused. - Launch the game and start or host a run. Ten seconds after you're in the outpost or a dungeon, the rewards become redeemable.
Every stream: start Start-Companion.cmd (no code needed again, unless 30 days without use), then the game. Stop it with Ctrl+C in its window: rewards are paused and pending redemptions refunded. Closing the window with the X can't do that; the next start refunds what was left.
Effects
| Effect | Where | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Jump scare | anywhere | A scary sound right behind you |
| Explosion | anywhere | An explosion next to you, no damage |
| Yeet the streamer | anywhere | You're launched a few meters up |
| Trip | anywhere | You trip and fall, back up after 1.5 s |
| Moon gravity | anywhere | Low gravity for 30 s |
| Boss attack | anywhere | Your character unleashes a boss attack |
| Slow motion | dungeon | Everything at half speed for 10 s |
| Coin rain | dungeon | Gold coins fall in front of you (5 per stream at most) |
| Infinite stamina | dungeon | 60 s |
| Invincible | dungeon | No health lost to hits for 30 s (the grinder still kills) |
| Spawn a monster | dungeon | A random monster appears behind you |
| Surprise weapon | dungeon | A random weapon |
| Grain Rot infection | dungeon | You're infected |
| Divine smite | dungeon | Monsters around you die |
There are always at least 3 seconds between two effects, so each one gets its moment and its banner.
Settings
- Cost, title, cooldown, on/off: in your Twitch creator dashboard (Viewer Rewards → Channel Points → Manage rewards), like any reward. The companion never overwrites them.
Start-Companion.cmd -ResetRewardsputs the defaults back. Don't enable Skip reward requests queue: refunds would no longer be possible. - Game side (volume, durations, gravity, where each effect is allowed, banner language, kill switch key): double-click
Settings.cmdnext to the companion. One line per setting, name = value; saved changes apply within 5 seconds, no restart. Out-of-range values are clamped (volume at most 2, for example) and logged. - Emergency stop: CTRL + F10 in game cuts everything: queued redemptions are refunded, running effects stop, rewards are paused. Press again to resume.
- Language: ALT + L in game switches between English and French (banner names, and the titles of rewards the companion creates from then on). The choice is kept in
settings.txt.
Multiplayer
Effects target the streamer, who must be the host. Sounds, explosions and the banner are only seen and heard by the streamer; what teammates see of the other effects hasn't been tested yet. Use it in your own lobby, with your teammates' consent. If you're not the host, redemptions are refunded and rewards paused.
Privacy
- Everything stays on your PC. Nothing is sent anywhere except Twitch itself.
- Your Twitch login is stored encrypted by Windows (DPAPI, tied to your Windows account) in
%APPDATA%\AzurIT\ChatChaos\token.dat. It never appears in logs. - Viewer names are only used for the banner. They are not written to logs; the exchange files (
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Helden\Saved\GrainRotChatChaos\inbox.jsonlandoutbox.jsonl) are emptied when the companion stops and when it starts. - Log out and delete everything:
Start-Companion.cmd -Logout(revokes the access on Twitch and deletes the stored login). You can also remove the app in Twitch → Settings → Connections.
Good to know
- The companion is a plain, readable PowerShell script (
companion.ps1, built into Windows). The launcher uses-ExecutionPolicy Bypassonly so Windows lets it run; it downloads nothing. - Streamer.bot users can drive the mod without the companion: append one JSON line per redemption to
inbox.jsonl, for example{"v":1,"t":"redeem","id":"<redemption id>","src":"points","reward":"yeet","user":"login","name":"Display name","cost":0,"ts":0}, and read the answer (FULFILLED, orCANCELEDwith a reason) fromoutbox.jsonl. Refunds then have to be handled by Streamer.bot. - Problems: the game log
UE4SS.log(lines[ChatChaos]) and the companion window say what was played or refused, and why.
