README

DropItemEverywhere

A standalone GTFO mod that adds two things for the resource item you are carrying (resource pack, consumable, keycard or artifact core):

  • return it into an empty slot of an open locker or box
  • put it down on any reachable surface you are looking at

Feedback and support: qingju.me

Both actions use the game's own hold feedback: the vanilla interaction prompt with its timer bar, plus a semi-transparent silhouette of the item showing exactly where it will end up.

Controls

  • Container return — hold E (the game's Interact/Use key by default, configurable) for 0.4 s while aiming at a compatible empty slot of an open locker/box. The prompt and the silhouette appear as soon as a valid slot is in reach; the bar fills while you hold.
  • Surface placement — hold G (configurable) for 0.25 s while looking at a reachable surface. The silhouette previews the landing spot while you hold.

Surface placement is deliberately kept off the Interact/Use key. With a pack in hand that key is also "apply the pack to myself / to a teammate", so sharing it would swallow the placement input and drop the pack on your own feet. Picking items up, opening lockers, and applying packs stay on their vanilla keys and are not touched.

While an empty compatible slot of an open container is in reach and you carry a storable item, the mod takes over that one interaction: vanilla world-interaction updates and the pack's own apply action are skipped for that moment, so E stores the item instead of starting the self-apply. Aim anywhere else and vanilla behaves exactly as before.

A single-frame key dropout never resets a hold - only staying up for longer than a quarter second cancels it, so the bar always fills smoothly.

Placement looks for a surface whose normal faces you, then lifts the position along that normal until the carried item's own bounds no longer overlap any world geometry. That keeps items from spawning inside a locker or box, whichever face of it the crosshair happened to land on. The item keeps its remaining ammo and custom data.

Supported items are resource packs, consumables, keycards and artifact-core items that match a container slot; only matching empty slots accept a return.

Inspired by the container-return behavior in DropItemPlus by Hikaria, DropItemFixed by Dinorush, and the surface-placement raycast behavior in SentryGunEverywhere by Localia. This is a separate implementation and package.
