README

Minecraft Sound Replacement

By od.e

Replaces How to Fish's NPC dialogue and player/NPC eating audio with matching Minecraft sounds. This might be helpful for anyone with misophonia or anyone who is just grossed out by the eating and gurgling sounds in the game.

Replaced sounds

  • NPC dialogue uses Minecraft villager talking sounds.
  • Player and NPC chewing uses Minecraft eating sounds.
  • Player drinking uses the Minecraft drinking sound.
  • The player swallow sound is replaced with the Minecraft burp sound.

Multiplayer

This is a client-side mod, meaning that you can use it both locally and in multiplayer. For multiplayer, everyone who wants the sound replacement will have to have the mod installed.

Installation

Install with a Thunderstore-compatible mod manager. The declared dependency automatically installs BepInEx 5.4.23.5.

For a manual installation, install BepInEx 5.4.23.5. Then, copy the ZIP's BepInEx directory into the How to Fish game directory without removing the directory structure.

On startup, BepInEx/LogOutput.log should include:

Minecraft Sound Replacement is active with 6 NPC dialogue, 3 eating, 1 drinking, and 1 burp clip(s)

Volume

Replacement WAVs are normalized during loading, protected by a soft peak limiter, and given a default 1.5x post-normalization gain. The game audio sources used for eating and dialogue are also raised to full volume to compensate for their unusually quiet original settings.

After the first launch, you can adjust the gain in:

BepInEx/config/od.e.howtofish.minecraftsoundreplacement.cfg

Gain accepts values from 0.25 to 4.0 and requires a game restart. Raise it gradually, since high settings intentionally compress loud peaks.

Compatibility

Built for How to Fish Steam build 24911270 (game version 1.0.9), Unity 6000.4.4f1, and BepInEx 5.4.23.5.
