Lantern Mod
Light up your favorite fishing spots with portable lanterns you can carry, place, customize, and manage. Lantern Mod adds an arm-free red camping lantern and an elevated standing lantern, each with a real adjustable light that other players can see.
Lantern Mod is designed for use alongside mods that add a day and night cycle, darker nights, weather, or other lighting changes. It also works in the base game whenever you want extra light around docks, camps, vendors, or fishing areas.
Flashing lights and photosensitivity warning
Lantern Mod includes optional Strobe and Pulse modes that produce flashing or rapidly changing light. These effects may affect players with photosensitive epilepsy or other light sensitivities. Use Static mode or turn the lantern off if flashing effects cause discomfort.

| Sell a light back | Open its Manage tab and choose Sell | Sells it for half its purchase price. |
The two light styles
Camping Lantern — $250
A compact low-poly red lantern with a faceted white glass chamber and layered base and cap. Its clean silhouette has no side arms or handles. It fits neatly in a hotbar slot and casts a comfortable pool of light around a small area.
Tiki Torch — $500
The same clean arm-free lantern is mounted on a tall segmented wooden stand with a broad flat foot. It casts light over a wider area and works well beside docks, paths, camps, and outdoor work areas.
Each style has its own transparent hotbar icon so multiple lights remain easy to identify.
Lantern controls
Buy lights from the same clerks, shops, and money vendors supported by Cooler Mod and Portable Grill Mod. Move close enough to interact with the vendor and look directly at them. The purchase prompts appear to the far right of center near the bottom of the screen: press 0 for a Camping Lantern or - for a Tiki Torch.
Look at a deployed lantern and tap E to open its controls. Use the Body Color and Light & Effects tabs to customize it, or open Manage to rename, recall, or sell that lantern. There is no global function-key menu.
Changes are saved per individual light and synchronized in multiplayer. The light switches off automatically while the item is held or stored and switches on when it is deployed.
Per-lantern editor
Look at a deployed lantern and tap E to open its editor. The information tooltip above the normal interaction prompt shows the lantern's name and owner before you open it. Only the owner can change that lantern's settings.
The Body Color tab provides red, green, and blue controls for recoloring the lantern housing. The elevated lantern also has a separate selector for its wooden stand. Changes apply immediately for the owner and synchronize to other players. The original colors can be restored at any time.
The Light & Effects tab includes:
- A complete light on/off switch.
- An intensity slider from 0.10x to 2.00x.
- A choice between warm-to-cool Color Temperature control and direct RGB Color control.
- Static, Strobe, and Pulse lighting modes.
- An adjustable 0.25–8.00 Hz frequency slider for strobe and pulse speed.
The Manage tab lets the owner rename that lantern, recall it to inventory, or sell it for half its purchase price.
At the bottom of either editor tab, Maximum number of rendered lights controls the global local-player light budget. Enter a limit to render the nearest deployed lanterns, or select Unlimited to render every deployed Lantern Mod light visible to your game. This preference is saved in the local BepInEx configuration and does not change another player's setting.
Every setting is stored with that individual lantern and restored with its placement the next time the world is loaded.
Placement and multiplayer
Deployment uses the same hold-E interaction style as Turret Mod, Cooler Mod, and Portable Grill Mod. Deployed lights are anchored so normal collisions and world cleanup do not knock them away. You must own a light to manage or pick it up.
Every player in a multiplayer lobby should install the same Lantern Mod version. The host saves ownership, names, positions, brightness, and color-temperature settings for the world.
Installation
Install and enable the package with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman, then launch How to Fish through the mod manager. Deploy a lantern and tap E while looking at it to open its controls.
Lantern Mod uses item IDs 245–246 and FishNet prefab collections 42424–42425.
CHANGELOG
Changelog
0.1.10
- Removed the F5 management shortcut and global lantern list.
- Lantern controls now open only by looking at a deployed lantern and tapping E.
- Added a Manage tab to the interaction window for renaming, recalling, and selling the selected lantern.
0.1.9
- Fixed live lantern body colors for the owner and host by rebuilding color targets on every spawned model.
- Fixed wooden stand colors on elevated lanterns and isolated materials between individual lanterns.
- Retains synchronized colors for other players and after loading a save.
0.1.8
- Added a persistent per-player maximum rendered-light setting with an Unlimited option.
- Raised the active URP additional-light budget so multiple nearby Static lanterns can illuminate the same view.
- Added nearest-light selection when a finite rendering limit is enabled.
- Added a separate saved body-color control for the elevated lantern's wooden stand.
- Applied housing, stand, temperature, and RGB light-color changes immediately for the host or owner and synchronized them in multiplayer.
0.1.7
- Stabilized overlapping Static lanterns by applying their light and emission settings only when state changes.
- Added a tiny deterministic intensity priority per lantern so Unity does not alternate between otherwise identical overlapping per-pixel lights.
- Stopped assigning the enabled state every frame when it has not changed.
- Disabled any inherited light component on the cloned base item so each lantern has exactly one controlled point light.
- Kept Strobe and Pulse frame-driven while isolating Static mode from their modulation path.
0.1.6
- Reduced the elevated second lantern model and collision footprint by 20%.
- Reduced the compact first lantern model and collision footprint by 10%.
- Applied body colors immediately on the owner and host, matching the proven Cooler and Drone synchronization path.
- Reapplied body colors immediately when multiplayer state snapshots arrive.
- Fixed Static mode so selecting it immediately resets lamp intensity, emission, and enabled state without retaining strobe or pulse modulation.
0.1.5
- Moved both lantern vendor prompts to the far right of center to avoid other mod prompts.
- Fixed body RGB changes by giving each lantern independent materials and applying saved color reliably during play.
- Replaced GUI skin-tinted color boxes with accurate solid previews for body RGB, light RGB, and color temperature.
- Removed the side arms from the compact Camping Lantern.
- Rebuilt the second light as the same arm-free lantern mounted on an elevated segmented wooden stand.
- Updated both hotbar icons and the Thunderstore cover to match the redesigned models.
0.1.4
