SimpleOrbit
Client-side orbit: open the ship door in space, fog-free space looks per moon, a huge moon lit by a moving sun (phases, eclipses), travel rumble. Vanilla players see nothing new; players who also have it see the real door and moon too.

SimpleOrbit
Client-side: works when you host or join vanilla lobbies. Vanilla players never get anything new (no custom RPCs, no CSync, no network objects); while the orbit door is open SimpleOrbit only changes what the game's own player-movement messages say about you.
Players who also have SimpleOrbit (0.2.4+, SyncWithModdedPlayers, default on) talk through the game
connection's own named messages (SimpleOrbit.*), which are only ever sent to players who said they have
the mod (a vanilla host silently ignores them). With a SimpleOrbit host: the orbit door is shared (it
opens and closes for every SimpleOrbit player), they see each other's real position, look and animations
outside (vanilla players still see the pose inside the ship), and everyone uses the host's space/moon look
settings. With a vanilla host: the door and positions stay local as in 0.2.3; only the moon placement
and its slow turning still match, because they are worked out from the round seed, the moon and the
shared network clock.
What it does
| Feature | What you see | What everyone else sees |
|---|---|---|
| Door in orbit | Press the ship door buttons in orbit (or the DoorToggleKey, default O): the door opens and you can walk out on the catwalk/hull. |
Door stays shut. From the moment you press the button (or the key) until the door is shut and you are back inside, you appear standing still on the floor in front of the door button panel, facing it (OthersSeeYouAt). No walking, turning, jumping or climbing is shown. |
| Safety | Drift > MaxDistance or fall > FallLimit below the floor = put back inside, no damage (or vanilla death if FallBehaviour = Kill). Lever pulled, death, a real teleporter, (routing if AllowWhileRouting=false) = door shuts and you are put inside. Being put back inside after a fall keeps the door open. |
Nothing, or a normal teleport back to your spot. |
| Ladder | With the door open, the outside ladder can be climbed up to the roof (LadderInOrbit). A soft light from above lights the roof, ladder and railings while you are outside (HullTopLight). |
You stay standing at the closed door (no climbing pose). |
| Ship exterior | Catwalk, thrusters, machinery, lights post shown while the door is open (only if the game hides them; solid geometry only, no trigger boxes, glass/decals or lights). | Nothing. |
| No fog | Fog, volumetric fog and local fog volumes are off in orbit: clean, crisp space. Back to normal before landing. | Nothing. |
| Space | A generated star + nebula sky, slowly turning, with its own colours and layout for every moon (modded moons too). 0.2.6: 10 hand-tuned looks (galaxy bands, star fields from sparse to packed, a distant ringed planet that stays beside the door view, asteroid belts above the horizon), one per vanilla moon. | Nothing. |
| Huge moon | The moon fills the lower part of the door view (0.2.7: always in the door view, top edge just above eye level), bright, in its own surface colours (0.2.9: sharp 2048 surfaces with seas, rivers, forests, clouds, canyons and craters, true to each moon; SimpleMoons' Tithe/Vesper is a desert with its big crater; 0.2.10: never a black view while a new moon bakes - the old sky stays up, a quick moon shows within a couple of seconds and sharpens in, and every bake is cached on disk); a slightly different spot, size and drift every time you arrive. 0.2.5: it is no longer locked to the ship: it slowly swings back and forth across the view on a gentle arc and turns on its own axis against the stars (9. Orbit), the same for every SimpleOrbit player. Soft moonlight on the hull while you are outside. |
Nothing. |
| Sun (0.2.6, phases reworked in 0.2.7) | A sun really lights the moon (0.2.8: already in place, with the stars and the moon, from the first frame the space view shows) and its phase cycles: full -> half lit -> a crescent along the top edge with the sun just beside it in the door view -> dark -> back. On a moon with Eclipsed weather it sits behind the moon's edge (the part nearest the door view, above eye level) as a dark disc with a glowing corona and the moon is a dark silhouette. Same for every SimpleOrbit player (network clock). Ship lighting is untouched. | Nothing. |
| Travel | Routing: a deep rumble builds, holds and fades, with gentle screen shakes; the old moon sinks away and the new one rises on arrival, finishing with the vanilla arrival sound. | Nothing. |
SpaceStyle = Classic gives the 0.1.1 look (vanilla star sphere + planet orbiting overhead).
Every feature is a config toggle in BepInEx/config/local.simpleorbit.cfg (sections 6. Space, 7. Moon, 8. Travel are new in 0.2.0; the MoonPlacement* keys in 7. Moon are new in 0.2.1; LadderInOrbit (2. Door) and HullTopLight/HullTopLightStrength (7. Moon) are new in 0.2.2; OthersSeeYouAt (2. Door) is new in 0.2.3; SyncWithModdedPlayers (1. General) is new in 0.2.4; section 9. Orbit (OrbitalMotion, OrbitalSpeed, OrbitalSwingDegrees, OrbitalSpinDegreesPerSecond) is new in 0.2.5; SpaceLooks, RingedPlanets, AsteroidBelts, PlanetStaysInView (6. Space) and section 10. Sun (MovingSun, SunCycleMinutes, SunSizeDegrees, SunBrightness, MoonNightSide, EclipsedSun) are new in 0.2.6; HighDetailMoon (7. Moon) is new in 0.2.9; BakeCacheOnDisk, BakeCacheMaxMB, PrebakeMoons (7. Moon) are new in 0.2.10; SunMaxPhaseDegrees (10. Sun) is new in 0.2.11; NebulaAmount (6. Space) is new in 0.2.12).
If Celestial Tint or ShipWindows are still installed, overlapping SimpleOrbit parts switch themselves off
(YieldToOriginals); with Celestial Tint Edit installed the travel rumble stays off. Remove them to use SimpleOrbit fully.
All sky, moon and sound content is generated at runtime from seeds (no bundled art or audio).
