Boombox Controller Remastered

Play YouTube and SoundCloud links (videos or whole playlists) or your own music files on the boombox. Everyone with the mod hears the same song at the same time.

An unofficial continuation of Boombox Controller by Koder-Teh (MIT), which is no longer maintained. The download, audio and network code was rewritten from scratch.

It replaces the original and uses the same plugin ID on purpose: if both are installed, BepInEx loads only this one. Uninstall the original Boombox Controller and BoomboxSyncFix anyway to keep your profile clean. Your old config and local music folder keep working.

What's new in 2.0

• YouTube works again: yt-dlp updates itself daily and uses Deno for YouTube's JavaScript checks.
• Every format (Opus, M4A, MP3, FLAC...) is converted to OGG before the game loads it.
• Downloads run in the background: no more freezes or lobby timeouts.
• Real sync: the host waits until everyone finished downloading, starts together and corrects drift.
• Playlists with auto-advance, several boomboxes at once, commands no longer spam the public chat.

Commands

Open the chat with / while holding or looking at a boombox.

Multiplayer

• The host must have the mod. Without it, the mod still works but only you hear your music.
• Everybody must use the same version of this mod.
• Players without the mod just hear the vanilla boombox.
• Only links and metadata are sent over the network; every player downloads the audio on their own PC.
• Local files are never uploaded: others hear them only if they have the identical file.

First launch: external tools

On the first start the mod downloads these tools (~150 MB) into BepInEx/plugins/<this mod>/bin, in the background, from their official GitHub releases, verifying SHA-256 checksums when published:

• yt-dlp — downloads the audio (self-updates once a day)
• FFmpeg (yt-dlp build) — converts the audio
• Deno — JavaScript runtime needed by yt-dlp for YouTube

Nothing is installed outside your mod profile. You can disable automatic downloads in the config (AutoDownloadTools, DownloadDeno) and place the files yourself.

• Local music: Lethal Company/BoomboxController/other/local (mp3, ogg, wav, m4a, flac, opus)
• Only YouTube and SoundCloud are allowed by default (AllowedDomains), checked on your own PC for every track.
