README

ChaosCompany

Chaotic voice effects, talking creatures and strange items for Lethal Company.

Work in progress. All players in the lobby need the mod (same version).

Features

Status effects (synced for everyone)

  • Voice: high pitch, low pitch, wavy voice, drunk voice, muffled voice, duck (your speech gets interrupted by quacks).
  • Body & screen: blindness, no stamina, slowness, speed buff, balloon (gravity breaks and you float up — a teammate standing next to you pulls you down), drunk screen.
  • For testing, enemy hits give you a random effect (config: Test / VoiceEffectOnEnemyHit).

Items

  • Portal gun — 5 shots, can't be recharged. Hit a monster or a player to send them deep into the facility.
  • Strange relic (scrap) — shake it: a buff, a scream that attracts monsters, slamming doors or a random debuff.

Creatures

  • Anatoly the worm — crawls along floors, walls and ceilings, greets every player by name, whines about his life and compares it with yours. Harmless. Subtitles above his head.

Optional: AI companion for the host

If the host runs the separate ChaosBrain companion app (local neural networks), creatures get:

  • generated, never-repeating lines and a real voice instead of mumbling;
  • players' real names instead of Steam nicknames (set by the host).

Without the companion everything still works: creatures use phrase files and mumble. Other players never need the companion — all audio is generated on the host and streamed over the game network.

Privacy: voice recording (opt-in)

With the companion, monsters may speak with players' voices (for example, the duck effect can interrupt your speech with a short phrase in your own voice). Every player is asked in game once whether the host may record their voice for this:

  • only players who pressed Allow are recorded;
  • recordings are stored only on the host's computer;
  • you can change your answer any time in the config (Voice / VoiceConsent); switching to Deny makes the host delete your recordings and everything voiced with them.

Players who didn't allow it are never recorded and never cloned.

Config

BepInEx/config/claude.chaoscompany.cfg — test hooks, duck volume, AI companion address, voice consent.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

0.8.0

  • Monster voices use XTTS (host companion app); the companion frees the GPU while the ship is landed.
  • Voice recording for voice clones, opt-in only: every player is asked once in game whether the host may record their voice. Only players who allowed it are recorded; recordings stay on the host's PC; revoking consent (config VoiceConsent) makes the host delete them.

0.7.0

  • Monsters can speak with a real voice: the ChaosBrain companion voices lines with Silero TTS (Russian, runs on CPU); audio is sent to all players. Without it they mumble as before.
  • Phrases never repeat: used lines are removed and replaced with new ones; generation happens while the ship is in orbit.
  • Players can be given real names (several variants); monsters use them instead of Steam nicknames.

0.6.0

  • Anatoly is now an ambient creature: roams within ~20 m, randomly crawls along the floor, walls and ceiling, greets each player by name on first meeting, doesn't follow players.
  • Optional AI lines: the host can run the ChaosBrain companion app (local neural network via Ollama). Monsters then get generated phrase banks and context-aware lines for important moments. Without it, phrase files are used.

0.5.0

  • New monster: Anatoly the worm. Crawls on the ceiling, whines about his life and compares it with yours. Harmless.
  • Monster speech system: subtitles above the head + mumbling voice. Phrases are editable text files in BepInEx/config/ChaosCompany.
  • Portal gun now shows up on the scanner.

0.4.0

  • New item: Portal gun (5 shots, can't be recharged). Hit a monster or a player to send them deep into the facility.
  • New scrap: Strange relic. Shake it (or sometimes just pick it up): speed buff or heal, a scream that attracts monsters, slamming doors, or a random debuff.
  • Enemy hits no longer roll buffs.

0.3.0

  • New status effects: blindness, no stamina, slowness, "balloon" (broken gravity: you float up, a teammate next to you pulls you down).
  • Drunk now also makes your screen swim and other players' voices sound blurry to you.
  • Duck effect now interrupts speech: the voice is silenced while the quack plays. Quack volume setting.

0.2.0

  • Networked status effects (host-authoritative, synced to late joiners).
  • Voice effects: high pitch, low pitch, wavy pitch, drunk, muffled, duck quacks.
  • Echo monitor: hear your own voice with your current effects (API, used by the dev menu).
  • Temporary test hook: enemy hits give a random voice effect (config: Test / VoiceEffectOnEnemyHit).

0.1.0

  • Project skeleton: plugin loads, shows a HUD tip when the ship loads.
