README

Portal Gauntlet

Open a door in a wall and walk back to the ship. You can see and hear through the rift, and it stays open long enough to haul scrap through. It does not check who is walking: crew, loot, and monsters can all use it, and anything chasing you will follow.

What you buy

On the ship terminal, under upgrades:

Command Cost What it does
buy portal-gauntlet 200 Mountable Rift Frame, plus one gauntlet on the next dropship
buy rift-stabilizer 200 Rifts stay open for 45 seconds
buy rift-capacitor 350 Rifts stay open for 60 seconds
buy rift-anchor 500 Rifts stay open for 90 seconds

The highest upgrade you own is the one that applies. Without an upgrade, a rift stays open for 30 seconds.

The frame is a ship upgrade, so it is available as soon as you confirm the purchase. The gauntlet is not in the item store. It arrives on the dropship the next time the ship lands, the same way other gear does.

If the crew is wiped or the gauntlet is otherwise lost, a replacement is sent to the ship once you are back in orbit, as long as the Portal Gauntlet upgrade is owned.

How to use it

  1. Enter ship build mode and place the Rift Frame on an interior wall. That frame is the home side of every rift.
  2. Pick up the Portal Gauntlet. It has its own tool slot, so it can be carried together with the flashlight, walkie, and boombox.
  3. On a moon, look at a flat wall and press left click. The wall needs to be large enough for a door.
  4. Walk through. The other side opens in the frame. Crossing works in both directions.
  5. Press left click again to close the rift early. Otherwise it strobes red for the last 5 seconds, then seals.
  6. The gauntlet holds 10 charges. Look at the frame and press E to refill every gauntlet you are carrying.

Only one rift can be open at a time. The rift closes if the ship starts to leave.

Through the rift

  • Sight. Each side shows a live view of the other, with that side's lighting, fog, dust, and weather.
  • Sound. Footsteps, machinery, monster noises, and player voices carry through in both directions, slightly muffled.
  • Monsters. Anything that walks into the doorway is moved to the other side. Monsters that hear a noise through the rift will go through to investigate it. Monsters chasing a player follow them through. That includes the jester while it is following you or berserk, and it will keep chasing outside. Coil-heads and a jester that is still winding up do not.

Close the rift if something you do not want aboard is coming.

Config

Host settings live in BepInEx/config/com.rayen.portalgauntlet.cfg.

  • Prices, open time, charge count, and paint range.
  • FlipFrame: turn this on if the ship side of the door opens into the wall instead of into the room.
  • Worn: position, rotation, and size of the gauntlet on the hand.

Notes

The view is one level deep, not an endless mirror. Rain falling on the other side is not shown in the view.

Monsters are moved onto the navmesh near the exit. Some enemies path poorly after changing rooms. They still come through.

Everyone in the lobby needs this mod, LethalLib, ReservedItemSlotCore, and StaticNetcodeLib. The host's copy decides prices, duration, and whether the frame is flipped.
