README

Artifact of Sacrifice

Mobs can drop a powerup when they die. Most powerup chests are removed: about 1 in 20 is kept. The host rolls every drop, then sends the game's own pickup packet, so clients agree on what landed.

Normal mobs default to a 5% chance. Bosses default to 35%. A buff mob's chance is ×1.5, clamped to 100%. Neutral mobs and Woodman do not drop.

KeepFraction 0.05 (the default) keeps about 1 powerup chest in 20. 0 removes them all (the Risk of Rain 2 behavior). 1 leaves them. Storage chests, the chief chest, and chests you build are not touched. Every client needs the same chest settings, because each client builds the world. The spawn roll itself still runs, so other world generation stays on the vanilla random stream.

The artifact is off by default, like in Risk of Rain 2. Set [Artifact] Enabled = true to turn it on. Upgrading from 0.1.0 removes the old [Drops] Enabled line, so turn it on again with the new key. Upgrading from 0.1.1 moves [Chests] ChestKeepFraction to KeepFraction: an old 0 becomes the new default 0.05, and any other value you set is carried over. With Enabled off the mod changes nothing.

Config

BepInEx/config/evan.muck.artifactofsacrifice.cfg

Section Key Default
Artifact Enabled false Opt-in. Off leaves vanilla behavior
Drops DropChance 0.05 Normal mobs. Host only
BossDropChance 0.35 Bosses. Host only
BuffChanceMultiplier 1.5 Extra factor for buff mobs
WhiteWeight 0.80 This mod's tier mix, not a Muck chest table
BlueWeight 0.19
OrangeWeight 0.01
Chests KeepFraction 0.05 Fraction of powerup chests kept. 0 removes them all. Must match across clients
SuppressBossPowerups false The guaranteed boss powerup still drops
SuppressCombatShrines false A cleared battle totem still drops
Announce Chat true While Sacrifice is on, the host shows its chest code to everyone, and a client shows its own
Debug VerboseLogging false

The chest code covers Enabled and KeepFraction, the two settings every client must share. The default (off) is 4E32E0AC. On with the default chest fraction it is 46E2322D. The drop settings apply on the host only, so they are not in the code. With Sacrifice off, nothing is printed in chat. If you see the host's line and none of your own, your Sacrifice is off and your chests will not match the host's.

Nothing in this package has been tested in the real game.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

0.2.0

Shows up in Artifact Lobby's lobby panel when that mod is installed: the host's pick sets [Artifact] Enabled for every player. Works as before without it.

0.1.3

No more chest-code chat at game start while Sacrifice is off. With it on, the host sends one line with its code to everyone, and a client shows its own, now short enough to print whole: "On. Chest code 46E2322D, must match the host's." The old line was cut mid-word by Muck's 120-character chat limit. A solo host no longer sees two lines. The chest code itself is unchanged.

0.1.2

Keeps about 5% of powerup chests by default, as intended. 0.1.0 and 0.1.1 shipped [Chests] ChestKeepFraction = 0, which removed every one. The key is now [Chests] KeepFraction (default 0.05). On first start the old line is removed from your cfg. An old 0 was the old default, so the new default applies. Any other value you set is carried over. The default chest code is now 4E32E0AC (46E2322D when on), so every player needs 0.1.2. KeepFraction is rounded to thousandths, the precision of the chest code, so two players with the same code always keep the same chests.

0.1.1

Off by default, like a Risk of Rain 2 artifact. The switch moved to [Artifact] Enabled (default false). The old [Drops] Enabled line is removed from your cfg on first start, because 0.1.0 wrote true there for everyone, which removed every powerup chest. Set [Artifact] Enabled = true to play with Sacrifice. The default chest code is now 5E4BB35B.

Kill drops work in the second game of a session. Muck wakes a new ItemManager on every Menu load, and from the second game of a session ItemManager.Instance is an object Unity has destroyed but vanilla keeps using. Unity's == null calls it null. The drop checked it that way and logged Sacrifice rolled a drop but that tier's pool is empty. instead of dropping. It is now compared by reference.

0.1.0

Initial release. The host can drop a powerup when a mob dies. Powerup chests are removed by default. Off leaves the game vanilla.
