README

CustomRunEx

CustomRunEx extends PEAK's Custom Run options with more item controls, an optional ascent-based starting preset, and an in-run shortcut to the options window. Run settings remain host-controlled in multiplayer.

Features

  • Show the original hidden Custom Run setting (TimeScale) with ShowHiddenSettings.
  • Add eligible items from natural spawn pools to the item controls with ShowMoreNatureItems. The list is paginated at 32 items per page. Hidden poisonous mushrooms and the hidden mandrake have distinguishing name suffixes. (But it has never spawned the natural mandrake in the game)
  • Turn off natural items such as Coconut or Crispberry in a Custom Run. New map spawns from supported natural-item generators respect the item's RunSettings value; if no valid candidate remains, that spawn point produces no item. Existing spawned items are not removed.
  • Optionally start a Custom Run at the host's selected Tenderfoot or unlocked ascent level. The selected level seeds ascent-related options and is retained at the start of the run. These options remain editable; the preset is not a minimum difficulty.
  • Open or close Custom Options with a configurable key while at the airport or during a Custom Run. Non-host players can browse item pages, but only the host can change RunSettings.
  • Optionally earn achievements, accumulate statistics, and unlock ascent levels in Custom Runs with AllowProgressionInCustomRun, disabled by default. When enabled, successful summits also count toward TimesPeaked.

Configuration

The config file is generated by BepInEx after the mod first loads. General/Enable defaults to on. All RunOptions switches, including AllowProgressionInCustomRun, default to off.

Section / key Default Effect
General/Enable true Enable CustomRunEx features.
RunOptions/ShowHiddenSettings false Show the original hidden TimeScale option in Custom Options.
RunOptions/ShowMoreNatureItems false Show eligible natural-pool items in the Custom Options item list.
RunOptions/UseSelectedAscentInCustomRun false Let the host use the selected Tenderfoot/ascent level as an editable Custom Run starting preset and retain that level when starting.
RunOptions/AllowProgressionInCustomRun false Allow the local player to earn achievements, accumulate statistics (including TimesPeaked), and unlock ascent levels in Custom Runs.
Keybinds/Show Custom Run Window Key F12 Open or close Custom Options at the airport or during a Custom Run.

Changes to Enable and the RunOptions switches are applied when Custom Options is next opened, not while that window stays open. Enable, UseSelectedAscentInCustomRun, and AllowProgressionInCustomRun also get an initial snapshot when the mod loads. The keybind is read when a key is pressed. Changing ShowMoreNatureItems only changes which item controls are shown; it does not clear previously saved item settings. Older configuration key names are not migrated or read.

The progression setting applies to each player's own account. Each player who wants this feature needs the mod installed and configured locally; the host's configuration is not synchronized. Achievement conditions, Steam availability checks, and the original local-player win event still determine whether progress is recorded. General/Enable=false or AllowProgressionInCustomRun=false restores the original Custom Run progression restrictions.

Allowing progression also restores the original ascent-completion progression: completing a Custom Run at a retained ascent level can increase MaxAscent and unlock the next level.

Ascent preset behavior

With UseSelectedAscentInCustomRun enabled, the host can select Tenderfoot or an unlocked ascent level on the boarding pass before starting a Custom Run. Entering Custom Run or changing that selection applies the corresponding starting values for fog, zombies, Scoutmaster, hunger, fall damage, item weight, peak flares, cold nights, and climbing stamina use. It does not reset other options or item toggles.

Opening the options window or pressing Start does not reapply the preset, so later manual changes remain in place. Selecting a different ascent level reapplies those ascent-related values. PEAK still has rules that directly inspect the ascent level: for example, ascent 1+ forces its original fall-damage behavior, and Tenderfoot prevents zombie spawning even if the corresponding Custom Option is changed. This feature does not override those rules.

Only the host can start a Custom Run with a preserved ascent level. RunSettings and the selected ascent use PEAK's existing multiplayer synchronization; there is no separate CustomRunEx mode state. A non-host starting Custom Run follows the original game behavior.

Natural-item limits

The expanded list adds controls for eligible items already in PEAK's natural spawn pools. It does not add items to pools or alter their original weights. Spawn filtering is active only when CustomRunEx is enabled and the current run is a Custom Run. Normal runs keep PEAK's original spawning behavior. Items already generated are retained when settings change or spawn history is restored.
