README

Nice Mode

So nice it's terrifying.

Nice Mode makes R.E.P.O. bright, pastel and friendly while changing absolutely nothing about what is hunting you. The Headman is baby pink now. He is still going to eat you.

  • Pastel color grade. Saturation up, contrast softened, shadows lifted so nothing is ever truly dark. Dreamy, glowing, wrong.
  • Cotton-candy levels. Pink fog, lavender ambient light, bloom turned way up, vignette removed. Applies to every map, the shop and the arena.
  • Pastel everything. Walls, floors, props, valuables and monsters are re-tinted toward a palette of pinks, mints, baby blues, lemons and lavenders when the level generates.
  • Cheerful names. Headman is Mr. Smiles. Huntsman is Uncle Bang-Bang. Gnomes are Little Helpers. Extraction points are Sharing Stations. Levels are Playdates at Sunny Meadows Daycare and Rainbow Academy. "Game Over" is "Nap Time!"
  • Your Best Friend :) The Taxman has been replaced by someone who loves you very, very much and would hate to be upset.

Audio is untouched. Enjoy the jumpscares.

Compatibility

Client-side cosmetic only: text, post-processing and material colours. Nothing is networked, so it works in any lobby whether or not your friends run it. Only the English (en-US) text is replaced.

Config

BepInEx/config/mvffyn.NiceMode.cfg

  • Text: EnableTextOverrides, EnableFriendLines, FriendName
  • Look: EnableColorGrade, Saturation, Contrast, ShadowLift, EnableLevelMood, FogColor, AmbientColor, FogDistanceMultiplier, Bloom, EnablePastelMaterials, PastelStrength, PastelMonsters

Too much? Lower PastelStrength and Saturation. Not enough? You monster.

Make it your own

The text lives in plain tab-separated files next to the plugin DLL: Localization/HUD.tsv, Menu.tsv, Game.tsv (same keys as the game's own StreamingAssets/Localizations/Default files) and TaxmanLines.tsv (MessageName<TAB>Line, several lines per name form a random pool, vanilla emoji tokens like {heart} work, [haul] inserts the current haul). Edit them and the mod picks up your version.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

0.1.1

  • Monsters now get a dedicated candy-coat pass: full pastel base colour, candy rim light and a soft emissive glow, so dark-textured creatures (Nana, Mr. Smiles...) actually read as pastel. New MonsterGlow config.

0.1.0

  • First pass. Pastel color grade (saturation, softened contrast, lifted shadows).
  • Every level gets pink fog, lavender ambient light, heavy bloom, no vignette.
  • World, prop and monster materials re-tinted toward a pastel palette on level generation.
  • 180 cheerful text replacements: levels, monsters, items, upgrades, HUD.
  • The Taxman is now Your Best Friend :) with 60 relentlessly pleasant lines.
