baked races

Races on ReSkate servers: creators build tracks with checkpoints, anyone hosts one, players join, the host starts a 3-2-1 countdown, and the first to the finish wins.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

1.0.1

  • Fixed: a track on a map with a long name, such as Skate 2 Improved, couldn't be saved: "the track has no map".

1.0.0

  • Needs baked_core 1.1.1, which draws the races menus, the race card and the notes.
  • races in the F7 list: view races to join one, host a race on a track of the map you're on, and race creator, the track builder, for those who can build. Long lists scroll.
  • Track creators build tracks where they skate. F5 adds a checkpoint, ↑ and ↓ change the next one's radius (hold to go faster), ← takes the last one off and → sets the start. A pair of cones at your skater shows where the next checkpoint goes and how far it is from the last, and the card shows the track builder as it is. Naming a track, and the yes before a discard or a delete, are baked_core's dialogs.
  • The host starts the race: every racer's menu closes, they're teleported to the line facing the first checkpoint, held still through a 3, 2, 1, GO countdown, and race through the checkpoints in order. A racer more than 2 m off their place on the line is put back on it.
  • Checkpoints are a pair of traffic cones from the game, on the ground at each side as far apart as the radius, with the number and the distance over them. In a race the next two show, and going through one takes its cones away. The prop is markers in config.lua.
  • The race card sits where the corner tag is: the clock, your checkpoint and place, the top five with your row marked, the countdown, then the results. It hides with the rest of the baked. UI, and so do the cones.
  • The first through the finish wins and the server says so in chat; the others have a finish window, then everyone sees the results.
  • Races go on the baked. boards: every racer who finishes adds a race finished, the top three a podium, and the first a win. A race counts when two or more started it.
  • From GO to their finish, racers ride the game's stock physics and can't noclip, use boosts or change tuning; each comes back as it was.
  • A dedicated server counts checkpoints itself from where it sees each skater, in order and at a believable pace, and a teleport passes none. Times are the server's clock.
  • A player is in one race at a time: hosting or waiting in one, they leave it before hosting or joining another.
  • Who can build tracks and manage races goes by baked_core's permissions, races.build and races.manage, each a staff role until it's given to roles. Players added with races creator add on the server's console build too.
  • A races admin page, under admin in F7, for races.manage: end anyone's race, or take anyone out of one. With races.roles, choose there who can build and who can manage: roles you type by name, everyone, or staff. It's kept over restarts, and races roles reset on the console undoes it.
  • Races loads, puts up a track's cones and runs races test a little at a time, so a slow PC's game can't stop it for taking too long.
