README

0.1.4 Duck motion playtest

Replaces hard-to-see primary pecks with forward wing strikes, slows the overly fast waddle, reduces sprint sway, and adds smoother air/landing recovery. Adds duck-owned utility fist-effect cleanup through required Eclipse AdvancedSkins 0.1.1. The user confirmed the duck appears and the model reads well in 0.1.3; these new behavior corrections still need a fresh gameplay test. Duck audio and footstep synchronization remain unfinished. All 29 other skins keep their exact runtime files.

Eclipse Skins — unlocked work-in-progress playtest

All 30 included skins are unlocked for testing. Eclipse-based unlocks are NOT implemented in this release.

Eclipse Skins is an evolving cosmetic skin project for Risk of Rain 2. The name describes the project's planned Eclipse-themed progression; it does not mean completing Eclipse currently awards these skins. For now, choose any included skin from Loadout > Skin, without completing an Eclipse run or editing your save. Skins will remain unlocked during development. Eclipse unlocks are future work, with their final behavior still to be tested and documented.

This is an early public playtest, not a finished collection. Expect rough edges, animation/clipping issues and changes as each skin is improved. Updates arrive in this same mod, one skin at a time; you do not need to wait for an entire survivor set to be complete.

Progress at a glance

Survivor Skins available in this release Status
Commando 8 Playtest drafts; polish and gameplay validation remain
Huntress 8 Playtest drafts; polish and gameplay validation remain
Bandit 3 Partial set; more skins and refinement remain
Mercenary 3 Partial set; more skins and refinement remain
MUL-T 3 Partial set; alternate-mode checks and refinement remain
Engineer 2 Partial set; turret/mine checks and refinement remain
Acrid 2 — Bog Hopper frog; Duck and Cover Duck added with a custom avian rig and motion; both remain playtests
REX 1 — Prickly Customer Early materials and movement work remain

Available now: 30 skin drafts across 8 survivors. Available does not mean finished or fully game-tested. Newer development models are not automatically included in the download. Development is currently focused on Acrid, with one skin worked on at a time. Other survivor work is paused, not abandoned.

What remains before completion

  • Finish and review the remaining planned survivor skins and E1–E8 designs.
  • Refine models, textures, silhouettes, weapons and companion pieces.
  • Fix clipping and deformation during movement and skills, including alternate loadouts and modes.
  • Validate skin switching, death/respawn, items, effects, shaders, multiplayer and performance in the game.
  • Implement and test Eclipse-based unlock progression, then clearly document how each unlock works. All included skins stay unlocked for the current development playtest.
  • Resolve outstanding review and player-reported issues before calling individual skins finished.

There is no completion date to announce. Progress will be reflected in these release notes as skins are added or improved.

Shared API dependency

This release requires Eclipse AdvancedSkins 0.1.1. Your mod manager installs it automatically. The shared API is supplied once by that dependency; it is not duplicated in this skin package.

Install and test

Install Eclipse Skins by Rodanius through r2modman or another compatible Thunderstore mod manager. Let the manager install the required dependencies, then launch your modded profile and choose a skin under Loadout > Skin. If a newly published update does not appear immediately, refresh the manager's online mod list.

If you have an older development copy of these same Eclipse skin plugins, disable that duplicate in your test profile to avoid registration conflicts. The separate original Commando Collection is not bundled or replaced.

Known issues

  • Acrid — Duck and Cover: the primary combo now uses broad alternating forward wing strikes and a double-wing finisher. Gait cadence is capped and smoothly ramped, with less walk/sprint sway. Grounded landing recovery and air-pose blending are enabled; only this duck’s native utility fist-effect renderers are hidden. Geometry and successful air-wing extension are preserved. Duck sounds and native footstep synchronization are still unfinished. Native slash effects remain; exact attack contact, transitions, terrain, skin switching, multiplayer and performance require gameplay testing. Equipment fitting and the earlier folded-wing art finding remain open.

  • Acrid — Bog Hopper frog: eye/brow polish remains; Slash, FireSpit, Bite and Run can show folds or buried limbs. Native attack/effect attachments remain. Animation, shader and stock-skin restoration checks are still needed.

  • REX — Prickly Customer: early flat palette materials and experimental cosmetic leg motion; terrain, burrow and effect alignment need testing.

  • Other skins have outstanding art, weapon, clipping, animation or companion/mode issues. MUL-T Yard Salvager currently retains stock Power Mode cannons.

  • Installing successfully does not establish that every skin or gameplay situation has been tested.

Help improve the skins

Useful checks include lobby previews, stock → custom → stock switching, jumping, repeated attacks with both loadouts, death/respawn and item attachments. For the frog, check that stock spines return after switching back.

When reporting an issue, include package version 0.1.4, survivor and skin name, action/loadout, a screenshot or short clip, and relevant BepInEx log lines. Please distinguish visual feedback from loading errors so fixes can be targeted.
