README

What It Does:

Puppeteer lets you leave your body behind and possess the night's monsters. To everyone else it just looks like a monster showed up.

Your body does not come with you. Depending on the mode you pick, it either vanishes or stays standing exactly where you left it.

Features:

  • Use their actual abilities: the spider's bite and web, the doll's leap
  • Three modes: choose whether your body vanishes or stays behind as bait
  • Spawn points: mark a spot so your creature appears there instead of on top of you
  • Built-in settings panel: styled from the game's own menu, no extra mods required

How to Install:

  • Use any compatible mod manager for the easiest installation.

OR

  • Make sure you have BepInEx 6 IL2CPP installed.
  • Download this mod and put it in your BepInEx plugins folder. (\GAME_LOCATION\Shift At Midnight\BepInEx\plugins)

Only the person doing the possessing needs the mod. Everyone else sees the creature with nothing installed at all.

How to Use:

  • F4: Swap into your chosen creature, and press it again to come back.
  • F3: Mark where you are standing, so creatures appear there instead of on top of you. Press it again to clear.
  • Left click: The creature's primary ability.
  • Right click: The creature's secondary ability, where it has one.

Both F keys are rebindable in the settings panel.

NOTE: Not every creature has a secondary.

Creature abilities

Creature Primary (Left click) Secondary (Right click) Supported
Spider (I, II, III) Bite Lay a web
Shrieking Doll (I, II) Leap at a player N/A
Herbert N/A N/A 🔜
Tofu N/A N/A 🔜
Pubert (the gnome) N/A N/A 🔜

Marionette N/A N/A 🔜

Modes:

  • Phantom: your body vanishes, and you return to the spot you left it. The safest of the three, since nothing of you is standing around to be found.
  • Doppelganger: your body vanishes, and you reappear wherever the creature was standing. You go where it goes, so a walk across the store as a spider is a walk across the store.
  • Puppet: your body stays where it is, visible, while you drive the creature. The most dangerous of the three, and the most honest to the name.

NOTE: Spawn points do nothing in Doppelganger, since you and the creature trade places.

Configuration:

Everything is in the PUPPETEER panel, bottom right of the pause menu: which creature you become, which mode you use, and both keybinds. It is built out of the game's own menu, so it looks and behaves like the rest of the options.

The same settings appear in the main menu if you have ModSettingsMenu installed. That is entirely optional, since the pause menu panel needs nothing extra.

Notes:

  • Host only. Only the host can spawn creatures. If you are not hosting, the keybind tells you so and nothing happens.
