Classes
Pick a class for your animal in Ultimate Chicken Horse. Every class has one ability and one drawback.
Early state. This is the first public version. It has been tried with two players on one machine; several classes have only been tested briefly, and nothing has been tested online yet. Expect bugs and unbalanced classes.
How to use
- At the start of every match the class sheet opens before the first Party Box. Every player has a pointer of their own (stick, or the mouse for the keyboard player; pick with jump or click). Choose a class, then READY. The match starts when everyone is ready, or after 60 seconds.
- F6 opens the same sheet at any other time. Classes can be changed in the lobby and between runs, not during a run.
- Classes marked
[button]are used with the ability button:- keyboard: F (can be changed in the config)
- controller: the rotate right button from the building phase (R1)
- In the lobby you can try the abilities freely.
The corner of the screen shows the class of each local player and whether the ability is ready.
Classes
| Class | Ability | Drawback |
|---|---|---|
Sprinter [button] |
Short dash in the direction you hold | Accelerates slower |
| Glider | Hold jump in the air to fall slowly | Jumps a bit lower |
| Climber | Does not slide down walls (hold down to slide) | Runs a bit slower |
| Hopper | Double jump | No wall jump, no wall slide |
Stomper [button] |
In the air: slam down and knock nearby players away | Jumps a bit lower |
Grappler [button] |
Once per round: pull yourself to a block in the direction you hold | Runs a bit slower |
| Dwarf | Smaller | Jumps a bit lower |
| Giant | Bigger, jumps higher, cannot be shoved | Easier to hit |
| Slider | Ice and honey do not affect you | Accelerates much slower |
Teleporter [button] |
First press sets a mark, second press jumps back to it (once per round) | Cannot move for a moment after the jump |
| Tank | Survives the first hit of every round | No wall jump, no wall slide |
| Cat | Three extra lives per match | Never gets the bonus for finishing first |
| Fireproof | Immune to the kind of trap that killed you last | Runs a bit slower |
Shield [button] |
Hold the button while standing: nothing that hits you from the front can kill you | Cannot move while the shield is up |
Shover [button] |
Shove players right next to you | You are pushed back yourself |
Screamer [button] |
Knock back everyone around you | Long cooldown, you cannot move for a moment |
Swapper [button] |
Once per round: swap places with a random living player | You do not know with whom |
| Sticky | Leaves a sticky trail that slows other players | Gets stuck in the trails of other Sticky players |
Slow Motion [button] |
Once per round: the whole game runs at half speed for a moment | It slows you down too |
| Avenger | Whoever kills you with a trap is marked. Killing them with your trap gives an extra point | Trap kills on anyone else give no points |
| Underdog | Reaching the goal while in last place gives an extra point | No bonus for finishing first while in the lead |
| Stealth | The piece you place is invisible to the others for one round | none yet |
Carrier [button] |
Pick up a player next to you, press again to throw them | Slow while carrying |
| Thief | Touch a player who carries a coin to steal it | Cannot pick up coins from the level |
| Doppelganger | Looks like another player's animal during the run | Keeps their own hat and name |
Ghost [button] |
Once per round, after dying: knock the nearest living player away | Does nothing while alive |
| Architect | The pieces you place cannot be blown up | none yet |
Demolitionist [button] |
Once per round: light a fuse and explode, killing everyone close by | Including yourself. Your traps give no points |
| Trapper | Projectiles from your traps fly faster | Dying to your own trap costs a point |
| Hoarder | The Party Box holds one more piece while you play | none yet |
| Copycat | Gets the class of a random other player every round | Nothing if nobody has a class |
Wrecker [button] |
Every third round: destroy the piece right next to you | none yet |
| Treasure Hunter | Every round a treasure appears that only you can see. Carry it to the goal for a point | Cannot pick up normal coins |
| Gambler | Bet on a player in the class menu (key B). If they reach the goal first, you get a point | You cannot bet on yourself |
| Lucky | One in four deadly hits misses you | Once per round your left and right are swapped for a moment |
Falling out of the level, giving up and the run timer always kill, whatever the class.
Classes against each other
- Shield blocks everything from the front: traps, the explosion, shoves, the Carrier's grip, the Thief. It cannot be swapped while up. A Sprinter bounces off it. A Trapper's projectile breaks it for the round.
- Stomper bounces off a Giant. A shockwave lifts a Glider.
- Slider ignores slime, Fireproof burns it away, a Sprinter's dash stops in it. A carried Sticky player cannot be thrown, only jump off.
- Tank's armour also takes a throw or an explosion; without it the Tank runs faster.
- Fireproof is immune to the explosion. Lucky's chance also works against shoves, theft and swaps.
- A Ghost who haunts their own killer gets an extra point. An Avenger has their revenge as soon as the marked Cat loses a life.
- Wrecker sees Stealth pieces faintly and cannot wreck an Architect's pieces.
- In Slow Motion the Sprinter keeps their pace, the Demolitionist's fuse burns in real time, and a Screamer's scream ends it.
Online
Every player in the lobby needs the mod in the same version. If someone does not have it, classes are switched off for everyone; the BepInEx log says who is missing.

Known limits
- Online play is untested.
- Slow Motion halves the game's speed rule for a moment; other mods that change the game speed may interfere.
- With the class sheet opened by F6 in the lobby, your animal walks while you move the pointer.
- The Doppelganger only copies the animal, not hat or name.
