Fraud Optimizer
I hate laggy portals.
So I made this.
Fraud Optimizer makes ULTRAKILL's portals less expensive to render by skipping portals that don't need to be rendered.
It can skip portals that are:
- Too far away
- Too small on screen
- Too deeply nested inside other portals
The goal is simple: less portal rendering = less lag.
Requirements
- BepInEx
- PluginConfigurator
Settings
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Max recursion depth | 1 | Controls how many levels deep portals can render through other portals. Vanilla uses 4. Lower = less portal rendering. |
| Max portal distance | 50 | Portals farther than this distance won't be rendered. |
| Min portal pixel area | 1000 | Portals that take up fewer pixels on your screen won't be rendered. At 1920×1080, 1000 pixels is roughly a 32×32 square. |
The optimizer is always active in levels that contain portals.
Why?
Fraud has a lot of portals.
Portals can also render other portals, which means your computer can end up rendering the same scene multiple times.
I don't like that.
So this mod tells the game to stop doing too much of that.
Settings tips
The default settings are fairly aggressive.
If portals start disappearing when you're looking across a large room, increase Max portal distance.
If small or distant portals disappear too easily, lower Min portal pixel area.
If portals viewed through other portals look weird, increase Max recursion depth.
Lower settings generally mean less work for your computer, but they can also make portals look worse.
Performance
Performance gains depend on the level and your hardware.
The biggest improvements should happen in areas with lots of portals.
If you want to find the settings that work best for your PC, compare your framerate in the same area while changing the settings.
And yes, you can absolutely make the game look worse for more FPS.
That's the price we pay for having computers.
