README

Biome Progression Control 1.0.0

Biome Progression Control lets a server group control world progression. Meadows and Ocean are open by default; the other biomes are locked.

Live controls

Install Jötunn and Biome Progression Control on the server and every player. Install a BepInEx Configuration Manager in the mod profile to edit settings in-game. Join as a server admin, open it, find Biome Progression Control → Biome access to allow or restrict player actions in each biome. Use Biome Progression Control → Boss summoning to allow or block boss offerings and progression gates separately from biome access. This controls the Queen’s Sealbreaker entrance and the Strange Bowl offering for Kall as well as boss altars. Meadows boss summoning is enabled by default; the other boss-bearing biomes default to blocked. Ocean has no boss-summoning setting. The setting is admin-only and Jötunn synchronizes changes while the session is running, so the server does not need a restart. Server admin status comes from Valheim's adminlist.txt.

If you run a dedicated server, make sure its admins are listed in adminlist.txt. The server and clients must have matching mod versions.

What the locks do

Players can enter and move through locked biomes, but the mod blocks progression actions while they are there:

  • Interacting with objects, stations, containers, portals, mounts and boss altars.
  • Attacking, using items, picking up items, and dealing player-caused damage to characters, structures and resource nodes in the locked biome.
  • Placing or dismantling building pieces.
  • Revealing new terrain on the map.
  • New world, localized, and destructible-spawner spawn attempts in locked biomes.
  • Creature loot drops when they die in locked biomes.

Movement remains available so players can leave. Interactions, including portals and boarding boats, stay disabled while inside. Items do not magnetize to players in locked biomes, and drops originating there cannot be picked up from outside; players can walk back out, or an admin can reopen the biome. Unlocking a biome immediately restores these actions and normal spawn attempts. Creatures that were already present when a biome was locked are not removed.
