⚒️ Slag Crusher
Slag Crusher is a vanilla-friendly, tweakable valheim mod that lets you get more metal bars out of the same scrap and ore. Smelters and Blast Furnaces drop an additional slag byproduct, that can be fed into the Slag Crusher to produce extra metal bars.
By default a Smelter drops 1 slag for every 2 bars smelted, and the Slag Crusher processes 1 slag into 1 bar. Every ratio, recipe, and timer is configurable.
Stations
| Slag Crusher | Blast Crusher | |
|---|---|---|
| Accepts | Copper, Tin, Bronze, Iron, Silver slag | Black Metal, Flametal, Bloodgold slag |
| Crafting recipe | Stone ×20, Surtling Core ×7, Bronze ×20, Core Wood ×5 | Stone ×20, Surtling Core ×7, Iron ×20, Fine Wood ×20 |
| Station requirement | Forge | Artisan table |
| Default cycle | 1 slag + 2 coal = 1 ingot, in 30 seconds | 1 slag + 2 coal = 1 ingot, in 30 seconds |
Install
The easiest and recommended way to install is with Gale Mod Manager. It downloads this mod and its dependencies and drops them into the right place for you.
Manual install
- Install BepInEx and Jotunn.
- Extract the downloaded zip. Most tools put the contents in a folder named after the archive.
- Move that folder into your Valheim
BepInEx/plugins/directory, so the DLL sits atBepInEx/plugins/<folder>/developerblue.SlagCrusher.dll.
Start the game once. BepInEx loads the plugin and writes the config file to BepInEx/config/slagcrusher.cfg.
Multiplayer
This mod is server-synced. Every player should have it installed, and installing it on the server enforces the same recipes, ratios, and timers for everyone.
Configuration
The best way to make changes to the config is with ConfigurationManager by Shudnal. It renders a simple ratio slider that makes it much easier to tweak slag-to-ingot ratios.
The config file can be found at BepInEx/config/slagcrusher.cfg.
General — mod-wide settings
| Setting | Description | Default | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Verbose logging | Print detailed startup and diagnostic messages to the BepInEx console. Warnings and errors always print. This is a per-client setting and is not synced from the server. | Off | On / Off |
Slag Output — how much slag smelting produces
| Setting | Description | Default | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slag Output Ratio | How much slag is produced for every metal. 20 Ingots ➜ 1 Slag is rarer slag, meaning after 20 ingots makes 1 slag. 1 Ingot ➜ 20 Slag is very plentiful, meaning every single ingot produced makes 20 slag, each. |
2 | -20 to 20 |
| Allow teleport | Allow slag items to be carried through portals. | Off | On / Off |
Slag Crusher — Station tweaks, how much slag makes an ingot
| Setting | Description | Default | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crafting recipe | Build cost of the Slag Crusher. Each entry is an item prefab name, a colon, and an amount. Separate entries with commas. | Stone:20,SurtlingCore:7,Bronze:20,RoundLog:5 |
— |
| Required station | Station prefab that must be nearby to build the Slag Crusher. Leave empty for no station. Jotunn station names such as forge, piece_workbench, and piece_artisanstation are accepted. |
forge (Forge) |
Any valid station prefab. |
| Slag to Ingot ratio | Controls the cycle as a trade in slag and ingots. 5 Slag ➜ 1 Ingot at -5 down to 1 Slag ➜ 1 Ingot at -1, 0, and 1, then 1 Slag ➜ 2 Ingots at 2 up to 1 Slag ➜ 5 Ingots at 5. |
-1 | -5 to 5 |
| Coal burned | Coal burned as fuel per cycle. Set to 0 to remove the fuel requirement from both crushers. | 2 | 0 to 20 |
| Smelt time | Seconds one cycle takes. Applies to both crushers unless Custom Cycle Settings are on. | 30 | 1 to 300 |
Blast Crusher — the high-tier station
| Setting | Description | Default | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crafting recipe | Build cost of the Blast Crusher. Uses the same format as the Slag Crusher recipe. | Stone:20,SurtlingCore:7,Iron:20,FineWood:20 |
— |
| Required station | Station prefab that must be nearby to build the Blast Crusher. Leave empty for no station. | piece_artisanstation (Artisan table) |
Any valid station prefab |
| Custom Cycle Settings | When on, the Blast Crusher uses its own output, fuel, and time instead of the shared Slag Crusher values. The three settings below stay hidden until this is enabled. | Off | On / Off |
| Blast Slag to Ingot ratio | The same slag-and-ingot trade as the Slag Crusher output, applied to the Blast Crusher. Only used when Custom Cycle Settings is on. | -1 | -5 to 5 |
| Blast Coal burned | Coal burned as fuel per blast crusher cycle. Only used when Custom Cycle Settings is on. | 2 | 0 to 20 |
| Blast Smelt time | Seconds one blast crusher cycle takes. Only used when Custom Cycle Settings is on. | 30 | 1 to 300 |
| Process Lower Slag Tiers | When on, the Blast Crusher also accepts lower-tier slag (copper, tin, bronze, iron, silver) and refines it into the matching ingot. Can be toggled without a restart. | Off | On / Off |
Per-metal overrides — a separate ratio for any single metal
Each metal gets an override pair: a toggle and a ratio. The ratio stays hidden until the toggle is on.
| Setting | Description | Default | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| {Metal} Override | Use a separate slag ratio for this metal. | Off | On / Off |
| {Metal} Slag Ratio | The same ingots ➜ slag slider as the global Slag Output Ratio, applied to this metal only while its Override is on. | 2 | -20 to 20 |
The Smelter metals (Copper, Tin, Bronze, Iron, Silver) live under Slag Output - Smelter Overrides. The Blast Furnace metals (Black Metal, Flametal, Bloodgold) live under Slag Output - Blast Furnace Overrides.
