Crafting and Automation: all mods and settings

Stations that run themselves from your chests, timers for fermenters and sap, faster crafting, recycling, better food from your Cooking skill and a cookbook of every food.

Below: every mod in this pack in detail, with all its settings and their defaults.

How it works

  • Open the settings (F1). At the top, 0 - Sub-mods has a switch for every mod in this pack: turn on only what you want. Switching one off removes it right away, no restart.
  • Below that, every mod has its own settings, under its name.
  • F1 needs a config manager mod, e.g. ConfigurationManager by shudnal (included in Digi Modpack). Without one the mods still run with their default settings, and you can change the settings in r2modman: Config editor → digi.valheim.crafting.cfg.
  • Upgrading from the separate DigiTeam mods: your settings are copied over automatically the first time. Remove the separate ones (a mod that is still installed separately is skipped here).
  • Mods that need another mod only start when that mod is installed; the rest work without it.

Auto Processing

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Auto Processing (on by default).

Every station that turns raw materials into processed ones: smelter, blast furnace, charcoal kiln, spinning wheel, eitr refinery and windmill, plus sap extractors and beehives.

Features

  • Automation from nearby chests, switchable per station:
    • Input (ore, wood, flax, soft tissue, barley) is topped up from chests in range.
    • Fuel (coal, sap) is added as much as the queued input needs.
    • The output goes into a chest the way Store Nearby does: a chest that already holds it, otherwise the nearest chest with room. With no room anywhere it drops at the station as usual.
  • Sap extractors put their sap into a nearby chest the same way, so they never fill up and stop.
    • Away from them nothing can run, but the ancient root keeps catching up: when you get there, the sap it saved up goes into the chest at once (instead of 1 per minute), and what it would have made after it was full (it stops at 50, about 5.5 hours) is counted too. You get what it would have made if you had stayed: about 9 sap per hour per root.
  • Beehives and birds' nests (replaces HoneyPlease):
    • Honey and feathers go into a nearby chest the same way (within 20 m). Beehives and nests each have their own settings (9 - Beehives, 9 - Bird nests).
    • Twice as fast by default (one every 10 minutes instead of 20), in any biome, and no open space needed. Without the space check the game also stops checking the room around every hive every 10 seconds.
    • Aim at a hive or nest to see when the next honey or feather is ready; the game's own [E] line stays.
    • Extracting by hand drops whole stacks instead of a scattering tower of single items.
    • HoneyPlease still installed? Then the hives are left to it and the main menu tells you to remove it.
  • Bigger capacity: furnaces 50 ore / 100 coal, kiln 100 wood, spinning wheel, refinery and windmill x2, beehive 50 honey.
  • Speed per station (kiln x2 by default).
  • Shift+E puts in as much as fits from your inventory.
  • Chests that someone has open are never touched; carts, ships and other players' private chests are skipped.
  • Local Craft From Storage container markers are honoured when that mod is installed.

Count sap while away on A root stops at 50 sap (about 5.5 hours). On: what it would have made after that while you were away is counted too and goes into the chest when you get there, as if you had stayed (about 9 sap per hour per root). Only for roots with an extractor.

9 - Beehives

Setting Default What it does
Output to chest on Puts the honey into a nearby chest: one that already has honey, otherwise the nearest one with room. Off = you collect it by hand.

Auto Oven

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Auto Oven (on by default).

Ovens that run themselves from nearby chests.

Features

Every couple of seconds, for each oven near you:

  1. Finished food goes into a chest the way Store Nearby (Local Craft From Storage) would: a chest that already holds that food, else the nearest chest with room. Same Cooking XP and bonus-yield chance as by hand.
  2. Empty slots are filled with anything the oven can bake (bread dough, uncooked pies, ...) from chests in range.
  3. Wood is topped up from chests while something is baking (none is used while the oven is empty).
  • Chests that someone has open are never touched; carts, ships and other players' private chests are skipped.
  • Local Craft From Storage container markers are honoured when that mod is installed.

Settings (F1)

In F1 these are under Auto Oven - ..., below the switches.

General

Setting Default What it does
Enabled on Ovens fill, fuel and empty themselves using the chests near them.
Chest range (m) 10 Chests up to this many meters from the oven are used. (range 1 to 30)
Fill from chests on Empty oven slots are filled with anything the oven can bake (bread dough, uncooked pies, ...) from nearby chests.
Add fuel from chests on While something is baking, the oven takes wood from nearby chests.
Fuel to keep 3 How much wood the oven keeps in stock while baking. (range 1 to 10)
Empty into chest on Baked food goes into a nearby chest: one that already has that food, otherwise the nearest one with room.
Cooking XP on You get Cooking XP and the chance of bonus food, as if you took the food out by hand.

Auto Fermenter

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Auto Fermenter (on by default).

Fermenters that run themselves from nearby chests.

Features

Every couple of seconds, for each fermenter near you:

  1. Finished mead is tapped into a chest the way Store Nearby (Local Craft From Storage) would: a chest that already holds that mead, else the nearest chest with room for the whole batch.
  2. An empty barrel is refilled with a mead base from a chest in range.
  • Chests that someone has open are never touched; carts, ships and other players' private chests are skipped.
  • Local Craft From Storage container markers are honoured when that mod is installed.

Settings (F1)

In F1 these are under Auto Fermenter - ..., below the switches.

General

Setting Default What it does
Enabled on Fermenters fill and empty themselves using the chests near them.
Chest range (m) 10 Chests up to this many meters from the fermenter are used. (range 1 to 30)
Fill from chests on An empty fermenter takes a mead base from a nearby chest.
Tap into chest on Finished mead goes into a nearby chest: one that already has that mead, otherwise the nearest one with room.

Fermenter Timer

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Fermenter Timer (on by default).

Shows fermenter info when you aim at a barrel:

Fermenter ( Mead Base: Major Healing, Fermenting )
6x Major healing mead
Ready in 23:41
  • Ready in mm:ss: time left.
  • Yield: what the barrel will give.
  • If the barrel is exposed (no roof), it says so in orange: the game restarts the timer while it is exposed.

Settings (F1)

In F1 these are under Fermenter Timer - ..., below the switches.

General

Setting Default What it does
Show yield on Also show what the barrel will give, e.g. "6x Minor healing mead".

Sap Timer

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Sap Timer (on by default).

Ancient roots and sap extractors keep their timings hidden. Sap Timer shows them when you aim at one.

Features

  • Ancient root: how much sap it holds (e.g. 23 / 50), how fast it regrows (1 sap every 6:40), and when it is full again, or how many extractors are tapping it.
  • Sap extractor: when the next sap comes, roughly when it is full, and how much sap is left in its root. When the root is dry it says so, with the wait until it has regrown.
  • Light: only runs while you aim at one.

Good to know

  • A root holds 50 sap and regrows 9 sap per hour; one extractor collects up to 60 per hour. So one extractor per root already gets everything; more only empty a full root faster. Spread your extractors over more roots instead.
  • With Auto Processing, extractors put their sap into a nearby chest by themselves.

Notes

  • Client-side: only you need it.

Settings (F1)

In F1 these are under Sap Timer - ..., below the switches.

General

Setting Default What it does
Show on ancient roots on Show how much sap an ancient root holds and when it is full again.
Show on sap extractors on Show when a sap extractor collects its next sap and when it is full.

Craft Batch

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Craft Batch (on by default).

Vanilla Shift+Craft makes 5 at once. With this mod Ctrl+Shift+Craft makes 20.

Features

  • Cost, output and skill XP all scale together (the game uses one number for all of them).
  • The craft button shows "x 20" while you hold Ctrl+Shift.
  • The amount is locked in when crafting starts; letting go of Ctrl during the animation changes nothing.
  • Works with Local Craft From Storage (crafting from nearby chests).

Settings (F1)

In F1 these are under Craft Batch - ..., below the switches.

Crafting

Setting Default What it does
Shift amount 5 How many Shift+Craft makes at once (normal 5). (range 1 to 100)
Ctrl+Shift amount 20 How many Ctrl+Shift+Craft makes at once. (range 1 to 100)
Big batch key LeftControl Hold this key together with Shift when you press Craft to make the big batch (Right Ctrl works too when this is Left Ctrl).

Shift Fill From Storage

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Shift Fill From Storage (on by default).

Needs Local Craft From Storage Prime. Without it this mod stays off.

Shift-filling a smelter-type station (smelter, kiln, blast furnace, charcoal kiln, ...) normally only uses your inventory, and Local Craft From Storage Prime only moves one item per click from nearby chests. With this mod, holding Shift while you have nothing to add in your inventory keeps pulling from nearby chests until the station is full or the chests run out.

Features

  • Shift + interact on a smelter-type station fills it from nearby chests (fuel and ore).
  • Works with Auto Processing's Shift+E: it adds what you carry, this mod takes over only when you carry nothing to add.
  • Fermenter: interacting with an empty fermenter while you carry no mead base takes one from a nearby chest.

Requirements

Notes

  • Uses Local Craft From Storage Prime's own storage operations, so its chest rules (range, ownership, chests in use) apply.

Settings (F1)

In F1 these are under Shift Fill From Storage - ..., below the switches.

Fermenter

Setting Default What it does
Fill from storage on Using an empty fermenter while you carry no mead base takes one from a nearby chest.

Recycle Tab

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Recycle Tab (on by default).

A Recycle tab next to Craft and Upgrade at crafting stations.

Features

  • Lists the items in your inventory that this station can make.
  • Recycling gives back the materials of the item's current quality level (or a share of them) and lowers its quality by one, or removes it at quality 1.
  • Keeps item data on downgrade, so enchantments (Epic Loot) and the crafter name stay.
  • Equipped and hotbar items are hidden by default (a button shows them) and need a confirmation.
  • No Recycle tab at the cauldron (configurable).

Settings (F1)

In F1 these are under Recycle Tab - ..., below the switches.

General

Setting Default What it does
Materials returned (%) 100 How much of the crafting materials you get back: 100 = all, 50 = half. (range 0 to 100)
Keep item data on downgrade on An item that drops one quality level keeps its enchantments and crafter name. Off = you get a plain new item.
Show equipped and hotbar items off Also list what you are wearing and what is on your hotbar.
Confirm equipped and hotbar items on Ask before recycling something you are wearing or have on your hotbar.
Stations without the tab cauldron Stations that get no Recycle tab, as words matched against the station name, comma-separated (the cauldron by default).

Auto Repair

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Auto Repair (on by default).

Opening a workbench, forge or other crafting station repairs everything that station can repair, at once.

Features

  • One sound and one message (Repaired 5 items) instead of clicking repair for every item.
  • Same rules as the repair button: items that need a better station are not repaired for free.
  • Same Crafting XP as repairing each item by hand (switchable).

Settings (F1)

In F1 these are under Auto Repair - ..., below the switches.

General

Setting Default What it does
Enabled on Opening a workbench, forge or other crafting station repairs everything that station can repair.
Include equipped items on Also repair what you are wearing and holding, not only the items in your inventory.
Crafting XP on You get the same Crafting XP as repairing each item by hand.
Show message on Show "Repaired 5 items" in the middle of the screen.

Restyle Items

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Restyle Items (on by default).

The game only offers the style picker when you craft a new item. This mod lets you restyle an item you already own, for example an enchanted shield.

How to use

  1. Stand at a station that can craft the item (e.g. the forge for a shield) with the inventory open.
  2. Hover the item in your inventory, a container or an open backpack.
  3. Press R (configurable). The game's own style picker opens; pick a style.

The restyle is free. Only the style changes; quality, durability and enchantments/custom data are kept. Equipped items are re-equipped automatically.

Notes

  • Client-side.

Settings (F1)

In F1 these are under Restyle Items - ..., below the switches.

General

Setting Default What it does
Restyle key R At a station that can craft the item, hover over it in your inventory and press this key to pick another style.

Cooking Mastery

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Cooking Mastery (on by default).

Your Cooking skill makes all food better, up to the set bonus at Cooking 100.

Features

  • More health, stamina, eitr and healing per tick from food, and optionally longer lasting (default +50% at Cooking 100; lower skill gives part of it).
  • Cooking XP multiplier (default x5).
  • Crafting food trains Cooking at any station (cauldron, workbench, ...) and from your inventory.
  • Food tooltips show the bonus, e.g. 40 +10.
  • Optional: food keeps full strength until it runs out.
  • Safe: the food stats are always restored exactly, so they can never creep up over a session.

5 - Debug

Setting Default What it does
Log Cooking XP off Write every Cooking XP gain to the log file (for troubleshooting).

Craft From Storage Speedup

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Craft From Storage Speedup (on by default).

Needs Local Craft From Storage Prime. Without it this mod stays off.

Local Craft From Storage Prime lets you craft with materials from nearby chests. To show what you have and what you can craft, it loads every chest within its range again for every single count: with ten chests and a full recipe list that is hundreds of chest loads per frame while a station is open. Measured in game: 6 to 25 ms per frame, and up to 0.3 s when a station opens.

Features

  • The crafting window reuses the loaded nearby chests for a moment (0.2 s, adjustable) for its counts and for which recipes it shows as craftable.
  • Taking the items when you craft or build is not changed: it always loads fresh.
  • The chests' contents are still read live; only a change another player makes shows up up to that moment later.
  • A craft, another station and closing the window always start fresh.

Notes

  • Needs Local Craft From Storage Prime. Client-side.
  • Together with Epic Loot Fixes' "Faster chest loading" (Epic Loot Add-ons), which removes Epic Loot's part of every chest load.

Settings (F1)

In F1 these are under Craft From Storage Speedup - ..., below the switches.

General

Setting Default What it does
Reuse chest list for (s) 0.2 How long the loaded nearby chests are reused for the crafting window's counts. Longer = lighter, but a change in a chest made by another player shows up that much later in the window (your own crafting and taking items are always up to date). 0 = off. (range 0 to 1)

Cookbook

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Cookbook (on by default).

Press K to open a cookbook of every food you have found so far, in a window that looks like the crafting menu.

Features

  • Every food in the game, including food from other mods (HoneyPlus, ...): health, stamina, eitr, total, how long it lasts and healing per tick.
  • Where and how it is made: the station and level (Cauldron 3, Stone oven, ...), with the ingredients as icons. Oven food also shows what goes in first: the unbaked pie and what that is made of.
  • Sort by any column (click a column title, click again to reverse) and group by food type (health, stamina, eitr, balanced), by station, or not at all.
  • Show undiscovered: a checkbox that also lists the food you have not found yet, greyed out.
  • Hover a food for its full tooltip; hover an ingredient for its name and amount.
  • With Cooking Mastery: your Cooking skill bonus is shown next to each value, e.g. 40 +10.
  • Smooth mouse-wheel scrolling; the camera stays still while the book is open. Escape or K closes it.
  • Light: the book is prepared once in the background after you load into the world, so opening and sorting are instant. Nothing runs while it is closed.

Notes

  • Client-side: only you need it.

Settings (F1)

In F1 these are under Cookbook - ..., below the switches.
