README

Trinket Modifiers

Current version: 0.32.1

This is a standalone configurable passive-effect engine for the 13 Better Trinkets prefabs plus the Deep North Neckstabber and Witch Crown trinkets. It scans every inventory position, so a dedicated trinket-slot mod is optional.

Do not run the original BetterTrinkets DLL alongside this plugin. This project is intended to replace its passive-effect handling.

Configuration

Every trinket has two sections:

  • [Trinket Name] contains passive values.
  • [Trinket Name.Doubled] contains values used while adrenaline doubling is active, plus Duration in seconds.

The initial supported defaults mirror the original Better Trinkets configuration. The original one-time health, stamina, and eitr entries are not included because this project intentionally uses persistent native SE_Stats effects only.

Available native fields in each section are:

  • HealthRegenMultiplier, StaminaRegenMultiplier, EitrRegenMultiplier
  • Armor, Speed, SwimSpeed, Jump, FallDamageMultiplier
  • NoiseMultiplier, StealthMultiplier, MaxCarryWeight, TimedBlockBonus, StaggerMultiplier
  • DamageModifier, plus BluntDamage, SlashDamage, PierceDamage, ChopDamage, PickaxeDamage, FireDamage, FrostDamage, LightningDamage, PoisonDamage, and SpiritDamage
  • RunStaminaUseMultiplier, JumpStaminaUseMultiplier, AttackStaminaUseMultiplier, BlockStaminaUseMultiplier, DodgeStaminaUseMultiplier, SwimStaminaUseMultiplier, HomeItemStaminaUseMultiplier, and SneakStaminaUseMultiplier
  • Resistance
  • Skill1/Skill1Bonus, Skill2/Skill2Bonus, and RaiseSkill/RaiseSkillBonus

Skill1 and Skill2 use Valheim's native flat-skill slots. RaiseSkill uses the native skill-gain slot; its neutral multiplier is 1.0.

The stamina-use settings are config multipliers: 1.0 is unchanged, 0.75 means 25% less cost, and 1.25 means 25% more cost. The plugin converts these to Valheim's native additive fields, where 0.0 is neutral.

NoiseMultiplier, StealthMultiplier, and StaggerMultiplier use the same config convention: 1.0 is unchanged, while values below or above 1.0 reduce or increase the corresponding effect.

Global settings are in [General]:

  • Enabled
  • DebugLogging
  • DoublingOnAdrenaline
  • AdrenalineGainMultiplier — global, not per trinket; 0.0 disables adrenaline gain, 1.0 is unchanged, and 2.0 doubles adrenaline gain.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

0.32.1

  • Removes the nullable-reference build warning in the Deep North item-name fallback.
  • Corrects the Deep North prefab mappings: Neckstabber uses TrinketBloodGoldHealth, and Witch Crown uses TrinketBloodGoldStamina.
  • Adds Brimstone's 15% physical-damage defaults and 30% doubled values.
  • Includes the latest configured defaults for Fins of Destiny, Heart of the Forest, and Resounding Shackle.

0.32.0

  • Adds configurable passive effects for the Deep North Neckstabber trinket: -25% run stamina cost, +20% health regeneration, and -25% attack stamina cost.
  • Adds configurable passive effects for the Deep North Witch Crown trinket: +33% health, stamina, and eitr regeneration.
  • Accepts likely Deep North prefab/name variants for both items, including TrinketNeckstabber and TrinketWitchCrown.

0.31.0

  • Aligns supported per-trinket defaults with the original Better Trinkets configuration.
  • Removes the previous varied test defaults from the registry.
  • Uses DoublingOnAdrenaline = false as the default, matching Better Trinkets.
  • Hides the doubled tooltip section whenever adrenaline doubling is disabled.

0.30.1

  • Allows General/AdrenalineGainMultiplier to be set to 0.0 to disable adrenaline gain.
  • Keeps 1.0 as normal gain and 2.0 as double gain.
  • Applies the zero-value setting instead of removing the global modifier effect.

0.30.0

  • Reads each native SE_Stats field's actual neutral value at runtime.
  • Prevents neutral fall-damage and adrenaline settings from being written as +100%.
  • Keeps global adrenaline gain multiplier values correctly translated across Valheim's additive or multiplier-style native fields.

0.29.0

  • Adds configured effects to the item-hover tooltip.
  • Corrects additive native noise, stealth, stagger, and running-stamina fields.

0.28.0

  • Prevents duplicate passive status effects from being added during refresh.
  • Keeps runtime passive effects permanent instead of allowing template expiry.
  • Translates stamina-use config multipliers to Valheim's native additive fields (1.0 is neutral).

0.27.0

  • Removes maximum-health, maximum-stamina, maximum-eitr, and one-time resource configuration.
  • Removes player maximum-resource patches, direct resource writes, equipment-template mutation, and the old outgoing-damage path.
  • Uses one native SE_Stats passive effect per equipped trinket with native damage, armor, movement, regeneration, resistance, stamina-use, carry-weight, skill, and timing fields.
  • Replaces the old 22-skill configuration with two native flat-skill slots and one native raise-skill slot per section.
  • Keeps global adrenaline gain as a native runtime SE_Stats effect.
  • Removes obsolete diagnostic inventory scanning and updates the plugin to 0.27.0.

0.26.0

  • Uses native SE_Stats.m_percentigeDamageModifiers for independent Blunt, Slash, Pierce, Chop, Pickaxe, Fire, Frost, Lightning, Poison, and Spirit percentages.
  • Uses native m_healthUpFront, m_staminaUpFront, and m_eitrUpFront fields for one-time resource values.
  • Corrects Valheim 1.0 stamina-use field names and native skill-level fields.
  • Removes the outgoing HitData damage patch and custom tooltip patches.
  • Keeps guarded maximum-health/stamina/eitr hooks because Valheim 1.0 has no corresponding native SE_Stats maximum fields.

0.25.0

  • Uses Valheim's native SetMaxStamina and SetMaxEitr methods when available, with field-write fallback.
  • Reapplies native stamina/eitr maxima after Valheim's player update calculation.
  • Adds setter fallbacks for one-time health, stamina, and eitr additions.
  • Adds the complete configured passive/doubled description to the active Crow status-effect tooltip, including damage types that are applied during outgoing-hit calculation.

0.24.0

  • Synchronizes native m_maxStamina and m_maxEitr before each player update.
  • Prevents Valheim's native resource clamp from resetting configured stamina/eitr maximums and current values.
  • Restores the captured native maxima before character serialization.
  • Avoids double-counting stamina/eitr by leaving the getter postfix responsible only for health.

0.23.1

  • Fixes the missing HasTargetMethods() helper used by the outgoing-damage diagnostic property.

0.23.0

  • Fixes the PlayerOutgoingDamagePatch.IsAvailable compile error.
  • Removes the unused direct-write maximum-resource state and its warnings.
  • Stops blindly clearing the native SE_Stats.m_damageModifier field.
  • Documents the actual Valheim 1.0 damage layout: independent configured damage types remain applied at the outgoing HitData boundary.

0.22.0

  • Applies maximum health, stamina, and eitr bonuses through Valheim's GetMax* methods so equipment refreshes cannot erase them.
  • Never subtracts a trinket maximum bonus from current health, stamina, or eitr when the trinket is removed.
  • Applies configured damage types directly to outgoing HitData, including Chop damage against trees.
  • Logs whether the maximum-resource and outgoing-damage Harmony targets were found.

0.21.0

  • Stores the underlying health, stamina, and eitr maximum separately from active trinket bonuses.
  • Reapplies maximum-resource bonuses after Valheim's equipment-status-effect recalculation.
  • Prevents removing a trinket from subtracting its bonus from a temporarily reset maximum.

0.20.0

  • Fills health, stamina, and eitr to the newly applied maximum after login when an equipped trinket provides that maximum-resource bonus.
  • Logs detected equipped configured trinkets and their maximum-resource values when equipment changes.

0.19.0

  • Replaced configured trinket vanilla descriptions in item tooltips with the actual passive effects.
  • Added the separate adrenaline-doubled effects and duration to the tooltip.

0.18.0

  • Prevents runtime maximum-health, stamina, and eitr bonuses from being serialized into the character save.
  • Removes cloned and synthetic passive status effects before player serialization, then restores them in memory afterward.
  • Restores native trinket one-time resource fields after the equipment-status-effect update instead of permanently changing shared status-effect assets.
  • Defers trinket processing until the player has a valid positive health and maximum-health state.
  • Adds guarded reflection writes and safe handling for invalid maximum-resource values.

0.17.0

  • Clamps all numeric trinket values to prevent negative gameplay effects.
  • Prevents negative maximum or instant resources, armor, speed, skills, damage, and parry values.
  • Keeps regeneration multipliers at or above neutral 1.0.
  • Limits stamina-cost reductions to 0.0 through 1.0 so native stamina multipliers cannot become negative.
  • Sanitizes invalid values already present in the config and values changed through BepInEx Config Manager.

0.16.0

  • Replaces the repeated test values with a coverage profile spread across all 13 trinkets.
  • Assigns the configurable resource, regeneration, armor, movement, stamina, parry, skill, damage, resistance, and duration categories across the full set.
  • Removes direct eitr values from Jormundling's test defaults so its reported death can be isolated from the eitr path.

0.15.1

  • Fixes the C# diagnostic log string so the project compiles on Windows.
  • Retains the varied nonzero default test profile from 0.15.0.

0.15.0

  • Adds an intentionally varied, nonzero default test profile across all trinkets.
  • Exercises maximum resources, one-time resources, regeneration, armor, movement, swimming, block, dodge, parry, skills, damage, and resistance in one configuration.
  • Keeps the original Better Trinkets values as the core values while adding small test values to additional fields.

0.14.0

  • Corrects the Valheim 1.0 dodge stamina field name to m_dodgeStaminaModifier.
  • Logs the configured dodge reduction and the native field value when a passive effect is created.

0.13.0

  • Finds the original Better Trinkets status-effect assets by trinket prefab name in ObjectDB.
  • Applies one-time health, stamina, and eitr values explicitly when equipping or reconnecting.
  • Prevents those one-time values from being applied a second time by SEMan.
  • Keeps the status-effect icon visible for effects added by the compatibility path.

0.12.0

  • Assigns the equipped trinket's item icon to fallback passive status effects.
  • Makes fallback passives visible in Valheim's top-right status-effect display.
  • Retains native SEMan lifecycle and configurable passive fields.

0.11.0

  • Adds a native StatusEffect fallback for Valheim 1.0 trinkets that expose no item-level status-effect template.
  • Gives each fallback effect a deterministic name so it is reused rather than recreated every update.
  • Continues to use Valheim's SEMan and native upfront resource fields.

0.10.0

  • Explicitly clones and adds each equipped trinket's passive status effect through the player's SEMan.
  • Uses the trinket's m_equipStatusEffect, m_setStatusEffect, or m_attackStatusEffect, matching the original BetterTrinkets lifecycle.
  • Applies native one-time health, stamina, and eitr fields before the passive status effect is added.
  • Removes only the passive status-effect clones created by this plugin when equipment changes.
  • Adds diagnostics for missing templates and failed status-effect additions.

0.9.0

  • Moved normal one-time health, stamina, and eitr bonuses into Valheim's native m_healthUpFront, m_staminaUpFront, and m_eitrUpFront status-effect fields.
  • Prepares those fields in a Harmony prefix before Valheim adds the equipment status effect.
  • Removed the SetHealth workaround for passive one-time health bonuses.
  • Kept direct method invocation only for one-time values triggered when adrenaline doubling starts.
  • Improved reflective method argument handling for Valheim 1.0 overloads.

0.8.0

  • Fixed status-effect matching for Valheim 1.0 by comparing internal names, Unity asset names, and status-effect hashes.
  • Searches both the player's equipment status-effect list and the active SEMan status-effect list.
  • Added a SetHealth fallback for one-time health bonuses when the Valheim 1.0 Heal overload cannot be invoked.
  • Added debug logging when passive or doubled values are applied to a matched status effect.

0.7.0

  • Reorganized each trinket into two config sections: [Trinket Name] for passive values and [Trinket Name.Doubled] for adrenaline-doubled values.
  • Kept all configurable fields in both sections with neutral defaults, including every listed skill and damage type.
  • Restored the original Better Trinkets passive and doubled defaults in the new section layout.
  • Fixed the Plugin._debugLogging compile error by exposing the initialized debug state through a static property.

0.6.0

  • Added per-trinket configuration for the original Better Trinkets effect values.
  • Added neutral entries for maximum health, stamina, eitr, all listed skills, and all listed damage types.
  • Added slot-independent equipped-item scanning; no dedicated trinket-slot mod is required.
  • Added passive and adrenaline-doubled resource, regeneration, armor, movement, swimming, block, parry, skill, damage, and resistance configuration fields.
  • Added global adrenaline gain multiplier configuration.
  • One-time resource bonuses apply on spawn and when the equipped trinket set changes, so they do not accumulate every frame.

0.5.0

  • Added the Diagnostics/TrackedTrinketPrefab configuration entry.
  • Recognizes the configured equipped trinket by prefab name.
  • Added no inventory, stat, or trinket gameplay changes.

0.4.0

  • Added equipped-item diagnostics for grid position and item type.
  • Logs equipped items as candidates while investigating the trinket slot.
  • Added no inventory, stat, or trinket gameplay changes.

  • Fixed the inventory diagnostic build error caused by the unavailable m_equiped field.
  • Reads the current equipped-state field by reflection without changing gameplay.

0.3.0

  • Added a logging-only inventory scan after Player.OnSpawned.
  • Logs item name, prefab name, equipped state, stack size, and quality.
  • Added no inventory, stat, or trinket gameplay changes.

0.2.0

  • Added Harmony and Valheim assembly references.
  • Added a diagnostic Player.OnSpawned postfix.
  • Added no inventory, stat, or trinket gameplay changes yet.

0.1.0

  • Added the standalone BepInEx plugin project.
  • Added the initial General configuration entries.
  • Added startup and configuration logging.
  • Added no gameplay patches yet.
