Crew Manual Sail Control
A mod built for crew play on boats. While one player steers, the others can trim the sail by hand and man the oars. Still in development, bugs may occur.
Features
Manual sail
- In the base game the sail faces the wind on its own. With this mod, you swing the sail yourself to catch the wind.
- How well the sail is trimmed sets how much power you get, from a configurable minimum (so you never fully stop) up to full power.
- Any player standing on the boat can trim the sail, not only the helmsman. The sail angle is shared with everyone aboard.
Crew oars
- Raft, Karve, Longship and Drakkar get oar stations on their sides.
- Walk up to an oar and press the use key to man it. Press it again to leave.
- Each active rower adds a speed bonus, a bit higher with the sail up than with the sail down.
- Oars only push when someone is at the helm, and they follow the helmsman: forward when sailing forward, backward when reversing, no push when stopped.
- The number of rowers is shown on screen while aboard.
Controls
Active while you are aboard a ship. Keys can be changed in the config.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Left Arrow | Swing the sail to port |
| Right Arrow | Swing the sail to starboard |
| Use key on an oar | Man or leave the oar |
Installation
Install with a mod manager, or copy ManualSail.dll into BepInEx/plugins. Requires BepInExPack Valheim.
The physics of a boat runs on the game of one player aboard, so the simplest is for everyone who sails together to install the mod. A dedicated server does not need it. Works alongside Faster Boats.
Configuration
The config file BepInEx/config/com.bouns.manualsail.cfg is created on first launch. It can also be edited in game with a configuration manager.

| RotateSpeedDegPerSec | 60 | How fast the sail swings while a key is held. |
| MaxAngleDeg | 90 | Maximum swing to each side. |
| MinEfficiency | 0.25 | Lowest wind efficiency, even badly trimmed or into the wind (0 to 1). 0 means you can be brought to a full stop. |

Each boat type also has its own section (Oars 1 Raft, Oars 2 Karve, Oars 3 Longship, Oars 4 Drakkar) with OarCount, SideOffset, Spacing, Height, StandOffset, OarLength and OarWidth. Positions update live. Length and width apply when the boat loads.
