JGFoP
JGFoP is a lightweight, configurable Forge of Potential mod for Valheim.
It is designed to keep the Forge of Potential system focused on upgrading equipment without adding unrelated systems, events, weather effects, announcements, or other extra features.
Features
Configurable Upgrade Chances
Control the outcome of Forge of Potential upgrades with:
- Success Chance
- Failure Chance
- Break On Failure Chance
Success and Failure values are treated as relative weights and normalized.
Example:
- Success Chance = 70
- Failure Chance = 30
Results in:
- 70% Success
- 30% Failure
Break On Failure Chance applies only to failed attempts.
Example:
- Success Chance = 70
- Failure Chance = 30
- Break On Failure Chance = 25
Results in approximately:
- 70% Success
- 22.5% Normal Failure
- 7.5% Break
Failure Consequences
Configure what happens when an upgrade fails:
- Levels Lost On Failure
- Minimum Level On Failure
- Failure At Minimum Level Breaks Item
Example:
- Levels Lost On Failure = 2
- Minimum Level On Failure = 3
An item at level 8 would fall to level 6 on failure.
An item at level 4 would fall to level 3.
An item already at level 3 would remain level 3 unless Failure At Minimum Level Breaks Item is enabled.
Break Behavior
Configure what happens when an item breaks:
- Break Returns Item At Level 1
- Break Return Ingredients Percent
If Break Returns Item At Level 1 is enabled, the broken item is returned at quality level 1 instead of being destroyed.
When this option is enabled, ingredient recovery is disabled for that break.
If the item is destroyed normally, Break Return Ingredients Percent controls how many recoverable crafting materials are returned.
Maximum Upgrade Level
Set a hard Forge of Potential upgrade cap with:
Max Upgrade Level
Once an item reaches this level, further Forge of Potential upgrades are blocked.
Idol Cost Scaling
Control how many Idols are required as equipment levels increase.
Available settings:
- Cost Start
- Cost Increase Per Interval
- Cost Increase Interval
- Cost Scaling Level Start
Example:
Cost Start = 1
Cost Increase Per Interval = 1
Cost Increase Interval = 2
Cost Scaling Level Start = 6
Produces:
Levels 1-5 = 1 Idol
Levels 6-7 = 2 Idols
Levels 8-9 = 3 Idols
Levels 10-11 = 4 Idols
Upgrade Duration
Forge of Potential crafting time can also scale with equipment level.
Available settings:
- Base Crafting Time
- Upgrade Duration Increase Per Level
This allows higher-level refinement attempts to take progressively longer if desired.
Craftable Idols
All Protection and Battle Idols can be crafted at the standard Forge.
Both Idol types within each tier use the same recipe.

Vanilla Behavior
JGFoP preserves the vanilla behavior that allows equipment to use the Forge of Potential before reaching its normal crafting-station maximum quality.
The mod does not require equipment to be fully upgraded at a standard crafting station first.
Multiplayer
JGFoP uses server-synchronized configuration.
When playing on a server, the server's JGFoP configuration controls:
- Upgrade chances
- Failure behavior
- Break behavior
- Upgrade level cap
- Idol costs
- Upgrade duration
JGFoP should be installed on both the server and all connecting clients.
