MagicStaffTweakerClientOnly
Client-only tuning for Valheim's vanilla magic staffs: costs, damage, summon health, summons per cast, and a local Dead Raiser summon-count bypass.
What's new in 2.2.6
Fixed ordinary wild animals inheriting Spirit Caller summon health. This bug could give a naturally spawned zero-star wolf 1,500 HP instead of its normal 80 HP. Summon tuning now checks each creature's exact identity and excludes unrelated wild creatures.
The user confirmed the client-only fix working in game. Existing configuration settings are preserved.
Installation and updates
Install this edition on your client through Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman. It does not synchronize settings with a server. Use the separate MagicStaffTweaker server-required edition for synchronized settings. Install only one edition at a time.
For manual installation, place both MagicStaffTweaker.dll and MagicStaffTweaker.Core.dll in one folder under BepInEx/plugins. Replace both DLLs together, remove duplicate active copies of older editions, and restart Valheim.
Requires BepInExPack Valheim and Jötunn, as listed in the package manifest.
Configuration
Launch once to generate BepInEx/config/com.magicstafftweaker.client.cfg. Settings are grouped by staff. Keep your existing configuration when updating; the plugin identity and configuration keys are unchanged.
Features
- Staff-specific cost, projectile and damage controls.
- Outgoing staff damage scaling and an AOE fallback without multiplying inherited damage twice.
- Summon Health defaults and Reset use vanilla summon health; positive custom values are preserved.
- Saved settings persist through restarts; only missing keys receive defaults.
- Hidden settings do not override skeleton movement, and shared summon weapon damage does not compound across equips.
- Summons Per Cast (1–20, default 1) for Dead Raiser, Trollstav, Staff of the Wild and Spirit Caller.
- Ignore Dead Raiser Level Limit (default off) bypasses staff-quality and Blood Magic count limits for locally owned skeletons following your player. Strength and star scaling are retained. Switching it off restores normal enforcement.
Use freshly summoned creatures to test health or movement changes. Summons Per Cast requests a count; placement and ordinary active limits can still affect the result.
Multiplayer behavior
Settings remain local. Summons and persistent effects may be controlled by another client. Ownership changes, PvP checks, resistances and other mods can affect results. The local bypass does not enforce a shared server policy or guarantee identical behavior on other clients.
Existing affected creatures
Animals already saved with inflated health may retain their saved values; this update does not rewrite world saves. Check a newly spawned wild animal after restarting.
Compatibility and validation
Built against Valheim 1.0.17 with Jötunn 2.30.2. Future game updates may require a mod update.
The client build and 59 existing client checks passed, along with 64 creature-isolation regression checks. The isolation checks use synthetic object graphs rather than live game simulation. The user confirmed this client-only fix working in game; comprehensive multiplayer and all-staff testing has not been independently performed.
CHANGELOG
Changelog
2.2.6
- Fix ordinary wild animals inheriting Spirit Caller summon health through shared creature references. This could give a naturally spawned zero-star wolf 1,500 HP instead of 80 HP.
- Restrict summon health and movement tuning to each staff's explicitly named summons.
- Use exact summoned-creature identities to prevent tuning unrelated creatures.
- Preserve existing configuration keys, custom values and client-only behavior.
- The user confirmed the client-only fix working in game. Automated creature-isolation and existing client checks also passed.
2.2.5
- Rename the Thunderstore package to MagicStaffTweakerClientOnly.
- Update documentation to include local summon-count controls and ownership limitations.
- Retain the user-tested 2.2.4 fixes and controls; plugin GUID, config filename and DLL filenames are unchanged.
2.2.4
- Add Summons Per Cast (1–20, default 1) for Dead Raiser, Trollstav, Staff of the Wild, and Spirit Caller.
- Add Ignore Dead Raiser Level Limit (default off) to bypass staff-quality/Blood Magic summon-count enforcement for locally owned skeletons following your player.
- Preserve skeleton strength/star scaling, normal enforcement when off, and all previous client fixes.
- New spawning controls affect local cast instances rather than shared spawn prefabs. Multiplayer ownership restrictions still apply.
- Build, patch signature checks, and automated regression tests passed. These two new controls still require in-game testing.
2.2.3
- Correct Summon Health's displayed/reset default using the vanilla summon prefab health.
- Replace invalid legacy health placeholders while retaining positive custom values.
- Resolve known summon prefabs when attack spawn references do not expose their health.
- Keep all client-only 2.2.2 fixes, names, descriptions, and dependencies.
- Earlier 2.2.2 fixes confirmed working in-game by the user. The new health default passed automated checks and still requires an in-game UI check.
2.2.2
- Fix the client-only Projectile Damage Multiplier by scaling outgoing local staff hit damage instead of an absent projectile field.
- Handle locally initialized AOEs that use their own damage, without applying the multiplier twice to inherited attack damage.
- Preserve saved configuration values on subsequent launches and initialize only missing settings.
- Prevent hidden summon settings from overriding vanilla walking/running speeds and damage scaling.
- Ignore invalid summon health/cooldown values and recognize health inherited by Humanoid summons.
- Avoid repeated multiplication of shared skeleton weapon damage when new summons equip it.
- Keep the client plugin identity and configuration filename; server-required 2.3.3 is unchanged.
- Build and automated checks completed; in-game multiplayer and skeleton targeting still require play testing.
2.2.1
- Current tested client-only release.
- Provides the lighter local/single-player Magic Staff Tweaker configuration set.
- Keeps the client-only plugin separate from the server-authoritative multiplayer edition.
