This mod requires the following mods to function
denikson-BepInExPack_Valheim
BepInEx pack for Valheim. Preconfigured with the correct entry point for mods and preferred defaults for the community.
Preferred version: 5.4.2350README
Hip Charms
Equipment slots, craftable quivers, belt charms, a weightless valuables pouch, and a miniature blue wisp lantern for Valheim.
0.4.0 is a test build against Valheim 1.0.15. BepInEx is the only dependency.
Equipment and storage
- Dedicated head, chest, legs, cape, trinket and strength-belt slots, plus three food slots.
- Craft and install up to three leather quivers. Each holds one arrow type; visible arrows use that item's actual native meshes and materials.
- Quivers appear on your back and both hips. Choose BackOnly in configuration to show all three arrow types in one back quiver without changing storage.
- Fit the hip charms upgrade to a worn strength belt for one additional ordinary inventory row and hooks for the swamp key, wishbone and wisplight. The belt retains its native carry-weight bonus.
- The key and wishbone hang from the belt and retain their effects. A miniature native lantern with blue light contains the wisplight and preserves mist clearing.
- Craft and fit a valuables pouch to a worn strength belt for 12 valuables cells plus a dedicated coin cell. It accepts coins and items with the game's trader-sale value. Traders can sell these valuables and spend pouch coins directly.
- Worn equipment and dedicated slot contents are weightless by default. Ordinary backpack items, including the extra belt row, keep their normal weight.
Crafting and discovery
All recipes use a level 1 workbench by default. Materials and required workbench level are configurable.
| Item | Default materials | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Leather quiver | 8 leather scraps, 4 deer hide, 2 wood | Place in a back or hip quiver socket, then add arrows beside it |
| Hip charms belt upgrade | 6 deer hide, 2 bronze, 4 resin | Place in the belt upgrade socket and wear a strength belt |
| Valuables pouch | 6 leather scraps, 2 deer hide, 2 resin | Place in the pouch socket and wear a strength belt |
The belt upgrade recipe is revealed only after your character first obtains a strength belt. Discovery is saved per character and survives selling or removing the belt. Existing characters who already discovered the belt also qualify. The belt is not consumed when crafting the upgrade. Its ingredients must also be discovered before the recipe unlocks. Quiver and pouch recipes require discovery of every configured ingredient and follow native station discovery. The belt upgrade additionally requires first obtaining the strength belt. Ingredient discovery persists after you use or sell the materials.
Hanging visuals and coins
The key and wishbone are 30% larger by default. Charms, lantern and valuables pouch share a damped hanging swing; quivers have a gentler sway. Quivers are flatter, fit closer to the body and show up to nine actual stored arrows. BackOnly displays up to three arrows of each stored type in one back quiver.
The separate Coins cell accepts coins without the normal stack cap. It uses the game's native signed integer count (up to 2,147,483,647); excess deposits remain in the source stack. Native coin stack sizes elsewhere are unchanged. Right-click, Ctrl-click or drag withdrawals use up to one normal stack at a time. Withdraw excess coins before removing the pouch or belt. Stored coins remain native items, retain trader support, save with the character and travel to the grave on death.
Equipment window
The compact 330 × 410 panel reuses Valheim's native backgrounds, buttons, slot graphics, fonts and text colors. Equipment is grouped by body position. Each quiver pairs its socket with its arrow slot; the pouch opens a separate valuables section. Empty slots have no preview items. Crafted-equipment slots appear only after their recipe is unlocked; existing stored contents remain accessible for recovery.
Hold Alt and drag the header or empty window background to reposition the equipment panel. Its position is saved after release and constrained to the screen. Normal item dragging and stack splitting remain available.
Drag items into matching cells. Right-click equipment or storage contents to return them to the backpack; right-click arrows to select them and food to eat it. Default shortcuts are Left Alt + 1/2/3 for arrows and Left Ctrl + 1/2/3 for food. The added panel uses mouse and keyboard; ordinary inventory retains native gamepad navigation.
With a chest open, Ctrl-click transfers between that chest and ordinary backpack space. Ctrl-clicking a dedicated item transfers it to the chest when its dependent contents can be moved safely. Without a chest open, Ctrl-click returns dedicated items to ordinary inventory.
Food and arrow shortcuts remain visible in a small HUD panel when inventory is closed, showing the configured key bindings and current counts. No other equipment is shown there.
Configuration
Use a BepInEx-compatible configuration manager or edit BepInEx/config/local.hipcharms.cfg with the game closed.
- Equipment window: saved position, scale, position lock and reset position.
- Appearance: charm size multiplier and hanging sway (zero disables sway).
- Quick slots: show/hide the food/arrow HUD and change its position.
- Quivers: ThreeQuivers or BackOnly, hip positions and rotations, and hip quiver scale. Back placement remains under Placement.
- Crafting: material costs for each item and workbench level. Belt discovery is always required for the upgrade recipe.
- Storage: weight exemption and belt-row settings.
- Lantern / Appearance / Placement: color, glow, light range, charm sizes and attachment positions.
Installation and upgrading
- With Valheim closed, import
HipCharms-0.4.0.zipas a local Thunderstore mod, or copyplugins/HipCharms/HipCharms.dllinto your profile'sBepInEx/plugins/HipCharmsfolder. Replace the previous Hip Charms version; keep only one copy of its DLL enabled. - Keep BepInEx enabled. Use one inventory-layout mod at a time. Empty another mod's equipment/storage into chests before switching.
- Craft the equipment, install it in the new sockets, and add arrows, charms and valuables to their matching cells.
The 0.4.0 coin cell is appended after the existing 32 cells; no existing slot is repurposed.
When upgrading from 0.2.0, existing slot identities and stored items are preserved. Craft the new equipment to activate the corresponding storage. Existing contents in unavailable slots remain recoverable; they are not deleted. The previous free belt row now requires the crafted belt upgrade. Recovery space remains until its items can safely move into ordinary inventory.
0.3.1 fixes invisible crafted-item icons and the broken equipment grid in 0.3.0. Existing quivers and pouches do not need to be crafted again. If the side window cannot initialize, its storage remains visible through native inventory rows until the window recovers.
Removing a quiver, pouch, upgrade or belt checks backpack space first. Dependent contents move only when the entire transaction fits. If inventory is full, make room before removing the equipment.
Before uninstalling, empty every dedicated cell and the extra belt row, remove custom items from characters/world storage as appropriate, remove the belt, and save. An unloaded mod cannot restore custom items or inventory cells.
Multiplayer and validation
Install the same version on all clients and the dedicated server because the quivers, upgrade and pouch are custom networked items. Use matching crafting and gameplay settings; this build does not enforce server configuration. Visual placement can differ per client.
See TESTING.md for automated coverage and remaining playtest steps. Compilation and static verification do not replace in-game checks of rendering, animation, crafting, save/reload and multiplayer. No installed profile or save was modified while preparing this package.
