Hip Charms
Standalone equipment slots, belt storage, a valuables pouch, quiver, and miniature blue wisp lantern for Valheim.
0.2.0 is a test build for the installed Valheim 1.0.15 game. It requires only BepInEx, the mod loader. It does not require EquipmentAndQuickSlots, BetterArchery, ExtraSlots, CurrencyPocket, or HipLantern.
Equipment and storage
- Dedicated head, chest, legs, cape, trinket and strength-belt slots.
- Three arrow cells with a visible leather quiver, and three food cells.
- Wearing Megingjord adds one ordinary inventory row, preserving separately purchased rows and the belt's carry-weight bonus.
- The belt unlocks three attachment cells for the swamp key, wishbone and wisplight. These appear as charms on the belt and retain their native effects.
- A small version of the game's lantern replaces the slotted wisplight's appearance, with blue light and a glowing core. Native mist clearing remains active.
- The visible leather valuables pouch has 12 storage cells for coins and items the game marks as trader valuables. It accepts the game's sellable items rather than an incomplete hard-coded list.
- Equipped gear and items in dedicated equipment, arrow, food, charm and pouch cells weigh nothing. Move an item back into ordinary inventory and its normal weight applies again. The belt's extra ordinary row is normal storage, not weightless storage.
Pouch contents remain real inventory items. Traders can find valuables to sell and coins to spend without copying them into another inventory first. The mod does not convert, delete or replace those items.
Installation
- Back up your character. If switching from another inventory mod, empty its extra inventory, equipment, arrow, food and bag cells into chests before saving and quitting.
- With Valheim closed, disable EquipmentAndQuickSlots, ExtraSlots and other equipment/inventory extensions for this test setup. Disable BetterArchery if installed; this mod supplies its own quiver. Disable a separate automatic coin-pocket mod if you want to store the actual coins in this pouch.
- Keep BepInEx enabled. Import
HipCharms-0.2.0.zipas a local mod, or putplugins/HipCharms/HipCharms.dllinto your profile'sBepInEx/plugins/HipCharmsfolder. - Start with a test character. Open the inventory to use the new equipment panel. Equip Megingjord to unlock its row, charms and valuables pouch.
The quiver and pouch are supplied by this mod; they do not need third-party items or recipes. Put arrows in the quiver cells and valuables in the pouch cells. Attach the existing wisplight to use the blue lantern.
Drag items into matching cells. Right-click equipment, charms or pouch contents to return them to your backpack; right-click arrows to select them or food to eat it. Defaults: Left Alt + 1/2/3 selects arrows and Left Ctrl + 1/2/3 uses food. Click Valuables +/- to open or close the pouch. The added panel currently uses mouse and keyboard; the ordinary inventory retains its gamepad navigation.
Configuration
Settings are in BepInEx/config/local.hipcharms.cfg. Adjust lantern color, glow and light, charm size, and hip placement. Worn gear and specialized storage are weightless by default. Ordinary backpack items retain their weight.
Removing the belt or mod
The mod checks room before removing belt storage. When a forced removal would strand items, it retains recovery space until those items can be moved. Recovery storage does not grant the belt's effects.
Before disabling the DLL or uninstalling, empty all dedicated slots and the extra belt row, then remove the belt and save. An unloaded mod cannot maintain custom storage. Existing saves from other slot mods are not automatically migrated.
Multiplayer and testing
Use the same version on participating clients to see equipment visuals consistently. This test build does not enforce server configuration.
See TESTING.md for automated checks and the runtime checks still required. In-game animation, controller navigation, armor/cloak clearance, death recovery and multiplayer testing remain necessary before using a main character.
CHANGELOG
0.4.0
- Enlarges key/wishbone charms and adds weighted sway to charms, lantern and valuables pouch, plus gentler quiver motion.
- Flattens quivers, brings them closer to the body and displays up to nine stored arrow models.
- Adds a separate coin cell beyond the existing 12 valuables cells, removing the normal coin stack cap without changing shared native item definitions.
- Preserves coin overflow, normal-sized withdrawals and stored coins during provider removal, saving and recovery.
- Requires discovered ingredients for custom recipes; recipe-associated empty slots stay hidden until unlocked.
- Makes the equipment panel 56% smaller by area, removes transparent item previews and adds a configurable food/arrow shortcut HUD outside inventory.
0.3.1
- Fixes the equipment window exception and repeated placeholder icons by rendering individual native cells instead of a cloned rectangular inventory grid.
- Resets copied icon presentation so empty-slot hints and pouch decorations display correctly.
- Generates visible quiver, belt-upgrade, pouch and lantern thumbnails without relying on world fog or game-material camera rendering. Blank thumbnails retain a native fallback.
- Restores native Ctrl-click chest transfers, prevents those transfers from filling dedicated slots, and retains provider-removal capacity checks.
- Recovers invalid items from dedicated cells when ordinary space is available, without deleting contents when it is full.
- Adds transfer and thumbnail regressions plus native UI contract checks. Existing crafted items and saved slot identities are preserved.
0.3.0
- Reuses native inventory fonts, colors, buttons and backgrounds in a roomier equipment layout.
- Adds Alt-drag window positioning with saved position, scale, lock and reset settings.
- Adds three craftable quivers, a strength-belt charm upgrade and a functional valuables pouch.
- Reveals the belt upgrade recipe only after first obtaining a strength belt, including prior native discovery.
- Shows actual stored arrow meshes on the back and both hips, with an optional combined back-only quiver.
- Adds configurable crafting costs and quiver placement.
- Preserves existing slot contents during upgrades and protects storage when its equipment is removed.
0.2.0
- Replaces equipment-mod integrations with standalone equipment and storage.
- Adds a functional 12-cell valuables pouch for coins and trader valuables.
- Makes equipped gear and dedicated slot contents weightless.
- Adds an original visible quiver with three arrow cells and three food cells.
- Keeps the belt's extra inventory row and visible key, wishbone and blue wisp lantern.
0.1.0
- Initial test build for the belt storage, three working charm slots, blue miniature lantern, visible key/wishbone and coin pouch.
- Integrates with EquipmentAndQuickSlots 3.1.3 and BetterArchery 2.0.2.
- Protects belt inventory during shrinking and leaves purchased rows unchanged.
- Uses measured vanilla mesh sizes and compensates for the player skeleton's inherited scale.
- Converts a runtime copy of the vanilla lantern's orange emission mask to support blue glow.
