ServerSync & Configuration Guide

SmarterHoe is built from the ground up to support both solo survival worlds and high-population dedicated servers.

🖥️ Dedicated Server Support

SmarterHoe uses ServerSync to guarantee that server owners maintain full control over gameplay balance.

  • Server Authority: When installed on a dedicated server, settings such as CostMode, maximum reach, max brush radius, and tool requirements are synchronized to joining players.
  • Client-Optional: Players with SmarterHoe can freely join vanilla servers. Likewise, vanilla players can join dedicated servers running SmarterHoe without issues.
  • Admin Exemption: Server admins listed in adminlist.txt automatically bypass locked settings and can adjust configuration in real time using the BepInEx Configuration Manager (F1).

⚖️ Cost Modes & Balance Calculations

SmarterHoe offers two gameplay cost modes via the CostMode configuration:

1. BalancedSurvival (Default)

Terraforming costs resources realistically scaled to the actual physical volume modified:

  • Raise Earth: Scales with Volume (Radius² × Height). Raising a tall 4m hill costs proportionately more stone than a small 0.5m mound.
  • Paved Stone: Scales with the surface area paved.
  • Station Proximity: Requires a nearby Workbench for raising earth and a Stonecutter for paving roads.
  • Tool Durability & Stamina: Consumes stamina per swing; tools wear down over time. Broken tools block further terraforming.

2. Freebuild (Creative Sandbox)

  • 0 Material Cost: No stone or materials are deducted from your inventory.
  • 0 Stations: Terraform anywhere on the map without placing workbenches or stonecutters.
  • No Wear or Exhaustion: Stamina and durability costs are disabled.
