README

Mjolnir - Thor's Hammer

A physical lightning hammer you can forge, throw, recall, and wield for storm powers. It remains in the world where it lands, and its map marker and on-screen arrow help you find it.

Hammer features

  • Charged throwing: Hold the throw button to charge. Longer charges travel faster and farther.
  • Physical impacts: Once thrown, Mjolnir falls naturally and damages enemies, structures, and objects it hits. Ground impacts leave craters sized by impact force.
  • Persistent landing and recovery: The hammer stays where it lands until recalled. Beyond 900 metres, automatic recovery returns it.
  • Tracking: A map marker and on-screen directional arrow show its position.
  • Remote control: Guide the thrown hammer toward your crosshair and levitate it there.
  • Lightning and flight: Aim lightning at a location or the hammer; pull yourself through the air, glide, and ground slam.

Newer powers

  • Sentry mode (L): Mjolnir hovers near you, lights the area, clears nearby mist, and periodically zaps approaching hostiles. Recall it with L or H.
  • Thunder God Orbit (tap Alt+L): Spectral hammers orbit and dive at nearby hostiles, then converge for a final strike.
  • Clone Storm (hold Alt+L): Manifest and launch a formation of spectral hammers, ending with a hammer strike. Worthiness sets the maximum number; Eitr pays for each manifestation. Holding beyond the cap can trigger an optional Eitr-powered overcharge.
  • Raven progression: Hugin introduces spectral hammer powers as your worthiness and manifestation count grow. The tutorials save to your character.
  • Localized UI: Item text, powers, HUD, Raven dialogue, and settings follow Valheim's selected language when a translation is available.

Installation and requirements

Requires BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351 and Jotunn 2.30.2. Install with a Thunderstore-compatible mod manager. For a manual installation, place the two included DLLs at:

BepInEx/plugins/ValheimMjolnir/ValheimMjolnir.dll
BepInEx/plugins/ValheimMjolnir/ValheimMjolnir.Core.dll

Launch Valheim once to generate the configuration file, then craft Mjolnir or spawn it through the console. This release was built against Valheim 0.221.12; compatibility with newer game and dependency versions needs an in-game check.

Crafting

Craft Mjolnir at a level 5 Forge.

Material Quantity

Controls

All keys can be changed in the Mjolnir Settings menu (F4).

Default input Action
H Charge and throw Mjolnir, or recall it when away
G Aim and activate lightning; ground slam while flying
Y Hold to fly while Mjolnir is equipped
J Guide and levitate the thrown hammer
B Grounded overhead slam

F4 Open Mjolnir Settings

Context-sensitive Alt powers

The ability modifier is Left Alt by default. A combination changes with the hammer's current state: Alt+G is Thunder Clap in hand, Chain Lightning when away, and Thunder Spear during flight.

State Input Power Action
In hand Alt+G Thunder Clap Charge and release a shockwave
In hand Alt+H Storm Line Ground lightning along your aim
In hand Alt+J Lightning Pillars Ring of lightning at the aimed location
In hand Alt+B Summon the Storm Call a storm over your character
Away Alt+G Chain Lightning Chain through nearby hostiles
Away Alt+H Mjolnir Tempest Toggle attacks through nearby hostiles
Away Alt+J Multi-Angle Barrage Attack from multiple directions
Flying Alt+G Thunder Spear Bolt through the crosshair
Flying Alt+H Flying Hammer Charge Dash along your aim
Equipped Alt+Y God of Thunder Spend stored lightning to empower Mjolnir
Sentry Tap Alt+L Thunder God Orbit Spectral orbit and diving attacks
Sentry Hold Alt+L Clone Storm Manifest and launch spectral hammers

Additional powers are listed in the F4 menu.

Input Power Use
Alt+2 God Blast Hold with Mjolnir equipped; release after charging
Alt+3 Grounded Lightning Rod Use after the thrown hammer lands on static ground
Alt+5 Lightning Step Activate with Mjolnir equipped
Alt+6 Mjolnir Guard Hold with Mjolnir equipped

Throwing, recall, and remote control

Hold H with Mjolnir in hand and release it to throw. Press H while it is away for an obstacle-avoiding recall; press again during recall to cancel it. Hold H for a direct forced recall. Forced recall can destroy structures and environmental objects in its path, including near your base.

After throwing, press or hold J to guide the hammer toward your crosshair. It levitates at the selected point. Release J to let gravity take over; press H to call it back.

Lightning, flight, and storm empowerment

Tap or hold G to aim, then release it to strike. In hand, the strike lands at your aim. With Mjolnir away, it centres on the hammer. During flight, G instead dives into a ground slam.

Hold Y with Mjolnir equipped to fly in the camera's direction. Release it to glide and descend. Flight protects against normal fall damage when you land through it.

Rain, storms, and God of Thunder empower Mjolnir. While empowered, hammer damage is doubled, power stamina costs and cooldowns are halved, and damage taken is halved. These effects do not stack. An optional icon beside the minimap shows the source of empowerment.

God of Thunder (Alt+Y) requires Thor Approved worthiness, spends stored lightning, lasts 10 seconds, and automatically strikes nearby hostiles while draining stamina. Summon the Storm (Alt+B) requires Storm Bearer worthiness, stored lightning, and stamina. Its default duration is 60 seconds. Summoned weather is local, is not saved, and can be overridden by Valheim's environment or raid weather.

Stored lightning powers both abilities. Carrying Mjolnir generates one charge every three seconds; natural rain charges it faster while Mjolnir is out and unsheltered. A summoned storm does not refill the reserve used to call it.

Worthiness and settings

Mjolnir binds to your character. Worthiness can increase hammer damage by up to 30%; players considered unworthy cannot lift it. Deeds such as defeating a guardian, shielding another, or fighting stronger foes raise worthiness. Harming helpless creatures and deaths can lower it. The F4 menu can configure or bypass worthiness, change bindings, and adjust mod settings.

Default worthiness changes include:

Deed Worthiness
First kill of each guardian +10
Shield a tame or another player +3
Defeat a stronger foe +1.5
Win a fight near death +1
Spare a fleeing foe +0.25
Defeat a much weaker foe -0.05
Strike a fleeing foe -0.3
Kill a tame or another player -2.5
Die fighting on foot Up to -0.75
Die during a power Up to -6

Death penalties grow with repeated deaths; the first death after a break costs less. Hunting passive wildlife is usually neutral or carries a small penalty. Worthiness tiers begin at 15 (Responds), 35 (Thunder Wielder), 60 (Storm Bearer), and 85 (Thor Approved). The rate of progress depends on playstyle; the F4 menu exposes the configurable rules.

While holding Mjolnir, stamina costs are reduced by 50%, and normal stagger and enemy knockback are prevented.

Console commands: spawn Kewb_Mjolnir_Item creates the hammer, and worthiness 100 sets worthiness to 100.
