README

Overhaul

Overhaul is a single plugin, Overhaul.dll, that reworks movement, combat, progression, the interface, storage, building and dungeons, while staying close to the spirit of Valheim. Most systems are configurable, and the main rules are synchronized from the server to every player.

Fully translated in English and French.

Movement and stamina

  • Base movement speed doubled.
  • Basic actions no longer use stamina.
  • Sprint is replaced by a dash that costs stamina.
  • Jumping on a slope goes as high as on flat ground.
  • No more sliding on terrain or buildings below 50°.
  • Swim without limit, but stamina does not recover while swimming.

Combat

  • Attack speed raised for almost every weapon (+20% to +50%).
  • The first strike of every melee combo carries you slightly forward.
  • A simple attack timed right after a dodge is faster and always critical.
  • Magic staffs replace blocking with a protection spell.
  • Over-the-shoulder camera offset for easier aiming.
  • Aim your bow while crouching.
  • Weapons and tools lose no durability when they miss.
  • Axes deal double damage to wood, pickaxes double damage to stone, ore and golems, and both wear 50% less on those resources.
  • Training dummy: an info window shows your DPS and max damage when you stand nearby. It can't be destroyed by weapons or damage over time, only with the hammer.

Progression

  • Leveling system with 200 levels, 16 stats and 4 special passives.
  • Vanilla skills get a milestone every 10 levels, which you no longer lose on death.
  • More detailed skill tooltips.

Interface (Project Auga integration)

  • Complete interface overhaul based on Project Auga.
  • Equipment window based on Equipment & Quick Slots, with one extra accessory slot.
  • Cosmetic system: wear any piece of gear as a cosmetic.
  • 3 shortcut slots reserved for food.
  • 3 ammo slots for arrows and bolts, cycled with a single shortcut.
  • Sort button on inventories and chests.
  • Trash button in the inventory to permanently delete an item.
  • Compact key hint box in the bottom-right corner, with mouse button icons.
  • Several French translations fixed (Tranchant, Poussin, Poule, Massue, Arme d'hast).

Inventory and weight

  • Base carry weight raised from 300 to 600.
  • Weight of every item halved.
  • Megingjord bonus raised from 150 to 400.
  • The Dvergr circlet becomes an accessory, with a radial light instead of a spotlight.

Chests and crafting

  • Rename chests: the name shows in the window and when you aim at the chest.
  • R takes everything from a chest, whether you aim at it or have it open.
  • Private chests: a lock button makes a chest inaccessible to other players.
  • Building and crafting use resources from nearby chests, except other players' private chests.
  • Crafting stations work without a roof.
  • Repair any item at any workbench.
  • Wooden arrows can be crafted without a station.

Machines with real inventories

  • Smelters, kilns, cooking stations, fermenters, fires and shield generators open as inventory windows, with separate materials and fuel.
  • Shift + Interact puts all your resources into a machine at once (smelter, campfire...).
  • The oven has 4 dish slots that match the slots inside the oven. Cooked dishes stay in the oven until you take them.
  • Item stands and armor stands open as inventories. Shift + R on an armor stand swaps your worn gear with the gear on the stand.
  • Items produced by machines never merge into one stack and never despawn.
  • Other items dropped on the ground despawn after 30 minutes.

Gathering and farming

  • Area harvesting for crops, mushrooms and more.
  • Hold the interact key to pick up every item around you.
  • Grid planting with the cultivator, based on PlantEasily.
  • Harvesting a crop grown from seeds replants it automatically, for free.
  • Felling a tree drops 1 to 3 seeds.
  • Adult fir trees in the Mountains drop core wood, like Black Forest pines.
  • The level 3 hoe can remove or reduce tar.
  • Feeding trough where tamed animals can eat.

Building and travel

  • Move useful buildings such as chests and workbenches with H while holding the hammer, contents included.
  • Choose your portal destination from a list, based on XPortal.
  • Portals accept every item: no more restricted items.
  • Ships, carts and battering rams get automatic colored markers on the map.

Dungeons

  • Larger dungeons in the Black Forest, Swamp, Mountains and Mistlands.
  • These dungeons now have a boss room, with a stronger creature and a sealed loot chest that opens once the boss is dead.
  • Larger goblin camps and villages.
  • Dungeons and villages reset after a configurable delay following the first visit (12 hours by default).
  • Swamp crypt staircases no longer end in a blocked path.

Faster world saves

Local worlds are migrated once to a SQLite database. After that, changes are saved in the background about every 5 seconds, without the usual save freeze. Your original world files stay untouched, and manual saves create backup copies (the 3 latest are kept).

Installation

Install with a mod manager (r2modman, Thunderstore Mod Manager or Gale): BepInExPack_Valheim and Jotunn are installed automatically.

Manual installation:

  1. Install BepInExPack_Valheim and Jotunn.
  2. Copy the content of this package into BepInEx/plugins/Overhaul.

Remove the standalone versions of Auga, Equipment & Quick Slots, PlantEasily and XPortal: they are already included. In multiplayer, the server and every player must use the exact same version of Overhaul. Configuration files are created next to the DLL and in BepInEx/config (plopyy.valheim.Overhaul.cfg). Key bindings can be changed in Settings > Mods > Overhaul.

Compatibility

  • Windows: SQLite is included.
  • Linux dedicated servers need libsqlite3 3.52 or newer (not tested yet).
  • Cloud worlds keep the vanilla save system.
  • Mods that depend directly on the standalone Auga, Equipment & Quick Slots, PlantEasily or XPortal DLLs may need an update.
