This mod requires the following mods to function
denikson-BepInExPack_Valheim
BepInEx pack for Valheim. Preconfigured with the correct entry point for mods and preferred defaults for the community.
Preferred version: 5.4.2351ValheimModding-Jotunn
Jötunn (/ˈjɔːtʊn/, 'giant'), the Valheim Library was created with the goal of making the lives of mod developers easier. It enables you to create mods for Valheim using an abstracted API so you can focus on the actual content creation.
Preferred version: 2.30.2README
Hauling
A new Hauling skill for Valheim. The more you carry, the stronger you get at carrying.
By Nathan's Norse Niceties, a group of small, independent Valheim QoL mods.
What it does
- Adds a Hauling skill next to Run, Jump, Swim and the other vanilla skills.
- Hauling gains XP while you walk, run or jump carrying at least 85% of your max carry weight (255 of 300 at the start).
- XP is doubled while you run, sneak or jump with that load, and tripled for all movement at 99% or more of your max carry weight, also when you are encumbered (the bonuses do not stack, the biggest one applies).
- Every whole Hauling level adds +1 max carry weight.
- The 85% threshold is measured against your current max carry weight, so the skill gets harder to train as it rises.
- Works with existing vanilla characters and worlds. Other skills are not affected.
Install
Install it with r2modman or the Thunderstore Mod Manager: search for NathansQol_Hauling by NathansNorseNiceties and click install. The dependencies (BepInExPack_Valheim and Jotunn) are installed automatically. Then start the game from that profile.
Manual install: download the zip from the Releases page and use Settings → Import local mod in r2modman.
Back up your saves first, see Compatibility below.

The config file nathan.qol.hauling.cfg is created in the profile's BepInEx/config folder after the first start.

RunSneakJumpXpMultiplier |
2 | XP multiplier while running, sneaking or jumping under load |
FullLoadXpMultiplier |

Compatibility
- Saves: your Hauling level is stored in the character's save. Played without this mod, the character simply has no Hauling skill and no carry weight bonus (it may then be overloaded if it relied on the bonus). Back up your saves before trying the mod on a character you care about.
- Multiplayer: the mod works on your own character and does not need to be installed on the server. It is not enforced by the server's mod check, so other players need nothing.
- Other mods: bonuses from mods that change max carry weight add up with Hauling's.
- Game version: developed and tested on Valheim 1.0.x (BepInExPack_Valheim 5.4.2351, Jotunn 2.30.2). After big game updates it may need a new release.
Known limitations
- The skill icon is a placeholder.
- Only tested on Linux with a single-player world.
