NH Chaos Blade
Chaos Blade (item NH_JesterSword02) is a new one-handed sword for Valheim from Nostalgia Heroes. It is a longer jester blade (about 1.09 m) with a dark purple glow and a soft, dark purple smoky aura.
It uses the vanilla Bronze Sword's stats, animations, sounds, swing trail and upgrade glow. Only the look, the icon and the recipe are new.
Renamed in 1.1.2: this sword used to be called Jester Sword II. Only its displayed name and description changed. The item ID (NH_JesterSword02), the Thunderstore package name, the config file and all stats stay the same, so swords you already own are kept.
Since 1.1.0 you can also find it: a Jester Cry camp hides in the Black Forest (see below). The Forge recipe still works.
Recipe
Craft it at the Forge (level 1). One craft makes 1 sword.
| Material | Craft | Per upgrade level |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | 8 | 4 |
| Wood | 2 | 1 |
| Leather scraps | 4 | 2 |
Upgrades use the per-level amount times the levels gained, like vanilla items:
| Upgrade to | Bronze | Wood | Leather scraps | Forge level |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quality 2 | 4 | 1 | 2 | 2 |
| Quality 3 | 8 | 2 | 4 | 3 |
| Quality 4 | 12 | 3 | 6 | 4 |
The recipe appears once you have found the materials.
Admin/test spawn: turn on devcommands in the F5 console, then type spawn NH_JesterSword02.
Finding the Jester Cry camp (1.1.0)
Somewhere in the Black Forest lies an abandoned jester camp where Jester Cry once stopped. It has a cold campfire, a collapsed red tent, purple, red and yellow banners, bones and skulls, a runestone, and a chest.
- The chest always holds one Chaos Blade, plus some Coins and Amber.
- Read the runestone to learn who passed through.
- A Greydwarf may be lurking nearby.
- By default there are 3 camps per world, at least 500 m from the world centre and far apart from each other. Not every world has room for all 3.
It only appears in land that hasn't been generated yet. Valheim places locations when a world is created, and builds them the first time someone gets near.
- New world: the camps are there. Go explore the Black Forest.
- Existing world: areas you have already visited will never get a camp. The mod can't add camps to an already-created world by itself. The host can run
genlocin the F5 console (single-player host, or the dedicated server), which places missing locations in areas nobody has visited yet. Back up your world first.
Servers: the server needs this mod too, because the server decides where camps go. The camp settings are synced from the server.
Settings
After the first launch, edit BepInEx\config\com.nostalgiaheroes.jestersword02test.cfg (or use a config manager). On a server, the server's camp values are used.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Quantity |
3 | Camps per world (0 = none). Only affects land generated after the change. |
Guard |
true | Adds one Greydwarf spawner at newly generated camps. |
LoreText |
(draft text) | The runestone text. Use \n for a new line. |
Glow and aura settings (1.1.1)
Since 1.1.1 the sword glows brighter and trails a gentle dark purple smoke, in your hand and on the ground. These settings are in the same config file, section [Glow and aura]. They are per player (not synced), so everyone can pick their own look. Changes apply right away.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
GlowIntensity |
3.0 | Brightness of the purple light (1.1.0 used 1.75). |
GlowRange |
3.0 | How far the light reaches, in metres (1.1.0 used 1.75). |
SmokeEnabled |
true | Turn the smoke aura on or off. |
SmokeAmount |
1.0 | Smoke multiplier, 0 to 2 (0 = no smoke). |
Install
With a mod manager (recommended): install NH_JesterSword02 (Chaos Blade) from Thunderstore with r2modman or the Thunderstore Mod Manager. BepInExPack_Valheim and Jotunn are installed for you.
Manual:
- Install BepInExPack_Valheim and Jotunn.
- Copy the
plugins\NH_JesterSword02folder from this package intoValheim\BepInEx\plugins\. You should end up with:
BepInEx\plugins\NH_JesterSword02\NH_JesterSword02.dll
BepInEx\plugins\NH_JesterSword02\nh_jestersword02
Keep the DLL and the nh_jestersword02 file together in the same folder.
Multiplayer
Everyone needs the mod, including the dedicated server if you use one, and everyone must be on the same version. Players without it will not see or keep the sword.
Important
- Removing the mod deletes the sword. If you uninstall it, Valheim removes every Chaos Blade from inventories and chests the next time that character or world is saved.
- Camps after removing the mod: the vanilla parts of a generated camp (campfire, banners, poles, bones, skulls, spawner) stay in the world. The camp chest and the runestone disappear.
- Testers only: if you had the early
NostalgiaHeroes_JesterSword02Testfolder, delete it before installing. It is the same mod, and the two must never be installed together.
Known limits
- Heavy model (about 141k vertices, 7.5 MB bundle) using Unity's Standard shader, so it may look slightly different from vanilla items.
- The swing trail and hit area are the vanilla Bronze Sword's size, even though the blade is longer.
- The smoke uses a tinted copy of a vanilla Valheim smoke material, so it is lit by the world: it is subtle in the dark except near the sword's own glow. It also shows while the sword is sheathed on your back.
Requirements
- BepInExPack_Valheim 5.4.2351 or newer
- Jotunn 2.30.2 or newer
