Valheim City Builder
Press F7 and Valheim turns into a city builder.
Watch the video: I Turned Valheim Into a City Builder
Valheim City Builder puts a classic city-builder view, economy and progression on top of Valheim. Your Viking is still there: press F7 again and you're back in the normal game.
Features
- City-builder view (F7): top-down camera, build menu, resource bar, minimap, tooltips and info panels.
- Settlers: build a Viking Hut and Vikings move in on their own. They pay taxes every minute, and they work in your buildings.
- Houses build themselves, piece by piece, out of real Valheim building parts.
- Needs: Vikings want food. Karls want meat or honey, and mead. Jarls want meat, mead, coal and bread. If a need isn't met, people move out.
- Upgrades: a full house with all needs met can be upgraded on the spot: Viking Hut → Karl House → Jarl Hall.
- Production chains: Lumberjack's Hut, Forager's Hut, Hunting Cabin, Smokehouse, Apiary, Carrot Farm, Quarry, Meadery, Barley Farm, Mill, Bakery, Charcoal Kiln and more. Lumberjacks replant, and nature grows back.
- Roads: buildings need a road to a warehouse. Roads snap to a grid.
- Research: the Skald's Fire turns sagas into knowledge, and knowledge buys research in three branches (Economy, Community, War).
- The world outside: the map starts under fog. Scouts uncover it and find Viking clans with real villages, traders, the Dvergr and hostile tribes. Trade, send gifts, sign agreements or go to war.
- Armies: Weaponsmith and Barracks train Spearmen into squads. Attack camps from the world map and watch the battle happen.
- Harbor & ships: build a Harbor and a Shipyard at the coast. Raft, Karve, Longship and Drakkar sail trade routes on their own and carry your army to camps across the water. Fisheries bring in fish.
- Defense: raids come with a warning and a countdown, clans across the sea land with longships. Watchtowers with archers, palisades, gates and stone walls keep raiders out. Burned buildings become ruins you can rebuild.
- Events: fires, harvest festivals, a travelling merchant, thieves, blood moons and treasure.
- Boss camps: every boss lives in a guarded camp. Beat the garrison with your army, then the boss. Each victory starts a new age.
- Seven ages: every age unlocks new buildings and a new look for your town (core wood, stone and iron, crystal windows, dark shingles, black marble, grausten and ashwood).
- City-builder look: smaller trees and rocks, warm light and a tilt-shift miniature effect in the top-down view.
Multiplayer (beta)
- Every player gets their own town with own storage, economy, research and settlers.
- Works on dedicated servers and when you host from the game. Only the players need the mod, not the server.
- Other players' towns are protected (no damage, no deconstructing) and you keep 60 m distance to them.
- When a player is offline, their town rests.
- Boss camps and villages exist once per world, everyone sees the same camps.
- You see the ships of the other players sailing their routes.
- This is new: please report bugs in the comments.
Getting started
- Install with r2modman / Thunderstore Mod Manager (BepInEx is installed automatically).
- Create a new world. Worlds you create with the mod installed get flat terrain automatically, which makes building much easier. Mountains stay. Existing worlds are not changed.

CHANGELOG
1.2.2 - Support link
- Small "Support the mod on Ko-fi" link at the bottom left of the city view. It only opens the page in your browser, nothing else. You can turn it off in the config (UI > ShowSupportLink).
- No gameplay changes. Update 1.2 is still a beta.
1.2.1 - 1.2 is a beta
- No gameplay changes. Update 1.2 is marked as beta: ships, raids, walls and events are brand new and haven't been tested much yet. Back up your world before you try it, and please report anything that breaks.
1.2.0 - Harbors, Ships, Defenses and Events (beta)
Harbor & ships
- New category Harbor: Harbor, Shipyard and Fishery. Coastal buildings turn their back to the water on their own and get a wooden pier.
- The Shipyard builds four ships, one per age: Raft (Age I), Karve (Age II), Longship (Age III), Drakkar (Ashlands).
- Trade routes by ship: pick a clan or trader at the coast, choose what to sell and buy, and the ship sails back and forth on its own. You can watch it sail the whole way. Ships find a real sea route around the coast.
- Clans you can reach by sea: if no village is at your coast, a couple of seafaring clans settle further along the shore.
- Fishery: fishermen row out on a raft and bring in fish. Fish is a new food for Vikings and Karls.
- Troop transport: Karve (6), Longship (12) and Drakkar (20) can carry your army. In the Attack tab press Sail!: the soldiers board at your harbor, land near the target, fight and sail home.
Raids & defense
- Raids now come with a warning: a banner at the top counts down and shows the direction. Click it to look there.
- Raids grow with every age (more and tougher enemies). Big raids come in two waves.
- Raids by sea: clans across the water come with longships. You see them sail in, they land on your shore and storm the town.
- Watchtower: two archers on the platform shoot raiders and monsters within 45 m. They leave deer and boars alone.
- Palisade, gate and stone wall: draw walls like roads, with two clicks. Raiders have to break through.
- Ruins: a successful raid can burn down a building. It stays as a ruin until you rebuild it for half the cost.
Events (config: Ereignisse)
- Every 8 to 14 minutes something happens once your town has a few buildings:
- Fire: a building burns. Put it out for a few coins, or rain does it for you. Otherwise it turns into a ruin.
- Harvest festival: spend mead or food, get double taxes and faster growth for 5 minutes.
- Travelling merchant: a trader with a cart visits for a few minutes with three special offers.
- Thief: sneaks to your warehouse and steals coins. Archers and soldiers can catch him and get the loot back.
- Blood moon: the sky turns red and a horde attacks.
- Treasure: a chest shows up somewhere near town. Go get it with your Viking.
Multiplayer
- Ships, harbors, piers, fishing rafts, walls, watchtowers and events work in multiplayer. You see the other players' ships sailing.
1.1.0 - Multiplayer (beta)
- Every player builds their own settlement: own storage, economy, research and settlers. Works on dedicated servers and when hosting from the game. The server does not need the mod, only the players.
- Other players' towns are protected: their buildings and settlers can't be damaged or torn down with the hammer.
- Keep 60 m distance to other players' towns. Hover over a foreign town in the city view to see who it belongs to and if they are online.
- Offline protection: when a player is offline, their town rests and nothing happens to it.
- Boss camps, clans, traders and tribes exist only once per world. The player who is closest runs the camp, so no more double bosses or guards in multiplayer.
- Your relation, wars and trade agreements with clans are your own. Stock and garrison of a village are shared by everyone.
- Players far away from the first town get their own clans nearby.
- Uploaded a singleplayer world to a server? A player without a town can take over the old town (and its storage and research, if the old save is on their PC).
- Residents no longer stand still when Valheim can't find a path for them (e.g. on hilly ground).
1.0.4
- Performance: buildings placed by the mod no longer run Valheim's structural support and rain cover checks on every piece. Big towns should lag a lot less.
- Tip: if a big town still lags, set AktiverBereich (active area) in the config to 1.
1.0.3
- Boss camps now look like camps: a palisade ring with two gates, torches, fire pits and camp clutter around every boss altar, styled per boss. Monsters don't wreck camp pieces. Also gets built in existing worlds the next time you visit the camp.
1.0.2
- Bosses stay in their camp. Eikthyr no longer chases you back to your town and wrecks it.
- No more duplicate guards or bosses when you leave a boss camp and come back.
- The shield message now tells you how many guards are left ("Kill them first or send your army").
- Freshly trained scouts start exploring right away, no need to press Explore first.
- Scouts no longer get stuck standing in one spot. If the path is blocked they walk straight on or around water, and a stuck scout picks a new target by itself.
1.0.1
- New worlds you create with the mod installed now get flat terrain automatically (no more "flat" in the world name needed). Existing worlds stay untouched. Config: NeueWeltenFlach.
- Tip in the city view when a world has normal Valheim terrain.
1.0.0
- First public release.
