RtDValhalla – Valheim Overhaul
A very difficult Vanilla style experience.. Can you survive and make it to Valhalla?
What This Modpack Does
- Adds over 17 bosses.
- Adds over 8 new dungeons
- Magic is earned through the hunt: kill the dead and pixies for Spirit Essence and Magic Crystals, then take down a biome's Pixie Queen to unlock the next stage
- Dark, somber lore threads through the world, this is not a lighthearted overhaul
Quality of Life
- Craft from containers & search your workbench with, along with character slots (Azumatt)
- Automatically equips your last shield when using 1H weapons (ZenCombat)
- Dedicated dodge button (ZenCombat)
- Hold ctrl + hammer click to move chests and built items without destroying them (ZenRedecorate)
- Magic is available early instead of being late-game only
- Farming and planting are skill based & buttery smooth, by Smoothbrain (pun very much intended)
- Foraging is also included!
- Assets are optimized for better performance (100m render cap, stylized textures)
Systems
Magic System
- You can start using magic as early as Meadows
- Magic progression is earned through the hunt, not handed to you:
- Hunt the dead at night. They release souls on death, and both the corpse and the soul can drop Spirit Essence, the core resource that fuels magic progression
- Regular pixies drop Magic Crystals, also required for progression
- Each biome has a Pixie Queen that must be defeated to advance magic progression in that biome. Pixie Queens are fully random in location and spawn from magical runestones that appear roughly every 30 minutes (real time). Only 36 of each runestone type exist in the world at once, so they're a limited, contested resource
- Defeating a Pixie Queen grants her Core, required for the main magic progression line
- Food (especially farming) plays a big role in sustaining Eitr
- All magic weapons have an AOE secondary attack
Melee & Ranged Progression (Assassin, Archer, Warrior)
- All combat styles start out simple, you won't be swinging anything fancy right away
- Defeating Eikthyr unlocks the first real stage of gear
- From there, progression is gated by biome:
- You'll need a unique boss-drop item from that biome's boss
- You'll also need the previous tier of the weapon or armor you're upgrading
- Assassins, Archers, and Warriors will need to seek out custom dungeons, slay powerful corrupted bosses, and farm unique biome-specific metals to keep climbing
- This keeps melee and ranged progression in step with the world's difficulty curve, so you can't easily outscale the content early on
Lore
RtDValhalla is wrapped in a deliberately dark and somber story. Expect themes of corruption, loss, and decay woven through bosses, dungeons, and the world itself. This isn't just a mechanical overhaul, there's a real narrative thread running underneath it for anyone who wants to dig into it.
Ocean Ecosystem & Cuisine
The ocean isn't just open water to sail across, it's a full ecosystem with its own food chain, creatures, and secrets to uncover. Tame friendly sea life like dolphins and orcas (and the rare mermaid), fish for everything from cod to massive whales, and watch out for predators that scale with the biome, from great whites in the swamp up to deep north horrors. Underwater you'll find sunken ships, ocean relics, fairy islands, and a dedicated ocean boss with unique rewards.
Every biome also got new crops to grow on land, and they're meant to be paired with your fresh catch. Each biome has its own cuisine identity, from light early-game shrimp dishes in the Meadows to powerful endgame sushi and stews in the Mistlands, so cooking and farming scale right alongside your progression instead of getting left behind.
Metals & Resources
Resources are spread out to match progression:
- Meadows → Flint
- BlackForest → Copper, Tin, Gold
- Swamp → Iron, Guck, MoonIron
- Mountains → Silver, Orichalcum
- Plains → Netherite, limited BlackMetal
- Mistlands → Felmetal
- AshLands → Flametal, Ancient Metal
- DeepNorth → Arcane Metal
RtDValhalla Compatibility Notes
If you run into issues with your modpack, the fastest way to track it down is to disable all non-RtD mods, confirm the issue is gone, then re-enable your extras one at a time until it shows back up. Worth noting that RtD projects may move to another host or platform down the line, so keep an eye on the discord for any announcements.
Known List
| Mod | Severity | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| AI Generated mods | Low | Quality and compatibility may vary significantly depending on implementation. |
| Therzie | Medium | Progression pacing and creature scaling differ heavily from RtD balancing. Separate playthroughs are recommended. |
| Epic Loot | High | RtDValhalla progression and itemization systems are not designed around Epic Loot mechanics. |
| Valheim Plus | Very High | This mod is incompatible with almost every mod in existence. |
| SeedBed | Very High | Custom vegetation generation may fail or become inconsistent. |
| World_Advancement_Progression | Critical | Raid progression and biome events may fail unpredictably. |
| HildersQuest | Critical | Incompatible with ZenWorldModifiers. |

- Azumatt mods provide modular QOL alternatives to
Valheim Plus. - Jewelcrafting is already included and balanced directly around RtD progression.
Use unsupported combinations at your own risk.

RtD Compatibility & Support Policy
RtD mods are designed as curated gameplay experiences, not universal compatibility frameworks.
Some mods heavily modify progression, loot generation, combat systems, world generation, networking, or runtime behavior. These combinations may still launch successfully, but stability and functionality cannot be guaranteed.
Please understand:
- Unsupported combinations may cause instability, broken progression, missing functionality, desyncs, or world corruption.
- Compatibility bypass mods and forced runtime patchers are used entirely at your own risk.
- Bug reports from unsupported setups may be declined if the issue cannot be reproduced on a clean RtD setup.
- Server owners and modpack creators are responsible for testing their own environments.
- RtD support is primarily limited to mods developed by Smoothbrain, Azumatt, ZedDragon, Shudnal, Alpus, Vapok, Marlthon, OdinPlus, and WackyMole.
The goal is not to restrict player choice, but to keep RtD projects stable and maintainable as curated gameplay experiences.
