Unofficial compatibility fork — AdventureBackpacks

This is not the official release. It is a rebuild of Vapok's AdventureBackpacks for the Valheim 1.0 update, which moved the game to Unity 6 and broke the mod on startup.

What was broken

  1. ZRoutedRpc.Everybody became a const. Literal fields have no runtime storage, so the ldsfld compiled into the bundled Vapok.Valheim.Common threw MissingFieldException.
  2. Inventory.AddItem gained two parameters (pickedUp, dropIfFullInv). The Harmony patch pinned the old 8-parameter overload, so PatchAll threw out of Awake() — which meant the rest of initialisation never ran. The flood of KeyNotFoundException: ColdResistance in the log was a symptom of that, not a separate bug.
  3. Two transpilers hardcoded local variable indexes. Valheim 1.0 renumbered them: in both Player.HaveRequirementItems and Player.ConsumeResources, V_2 is now the loop index and the Piece.Requirement moved to V_3. The old code pushed an int where a Requirement was expected, producing InvalidProgramException: Invalid IL code. ConsumeResources was worse: its match pattern (Stloc_3) no longer occurred at all, so it would have silently failed to patch and mis-counted equipped items with no error in the log.
  4. InventoryGrid.Element was promoted to a top-level InventoryElement, and its m_pos field became a Position property.
  5. Inventory.IsTeleportable() gained a bool allowAllItems. Reading the game's IL confirms true short-circuits to "teleportable", so false is what preserves the original behaviour.

What was changed

Source changes are limited to the above compatibility fixes; no features or balance were touched. A netstandard reference was added because the Unity 6 assemblies target netstandard 2.1.

Vapok.Valheim.Common is consumed as a prebuilt NuGet package compiled against the old game, so it could not be rebuilt. Its 7 stale call sites were patched at the IL level instead.

Known difference from the official build

The call to APIManager.Patcher was removed. That library is not publicly distributed and could not be extracted from the shipped assembly. It only matters when several different mods embed the same AdventureBackpacks.API and need to agree on a single copy — if you run other mods that consume this mod's API, use the official release instead. The developer API zip is not shipped here for the same reason.

Credit and support

All work belongs to Vapok. Please switch back to the official AdventureBackpacks as soon as a Valheim 1.0 build is published, and do not report issues from this fork to the original author.

Licensed MIT, same as upstream.

Do not install this alongside the original AdventureBackpacks — both register the same BepInEx plugin GUID.

Adventure Backpacks by Vapok

This Valheim mod seeks to introduce the concept of Backpacks throughout the Valheim progression. Starting as a wee Viking, rummaging through the tranquil fields of the Meadows, you'll happen upon materials that you think will eventually lead to a more meaningful destiny. From Deer Hide capes and beyond, you'll soon learn how to make your very own, Adventure Backpacks! Go forth and wander, ye wanderer of the wanders!

How to Use Adventure Backpacks

  • Play Valheim as you would As you craft items and explore materials you will learn new recipes for Adventuring Backpacks
  • The default hotkey is I to open the equipped backpack.
  • Each backpack is completely different in form, function, and size. Upgrading backpacks will unlock additional features depending on the progresion that backpack is intended to be used with.
  • Check the Configuration for ALL the different ways that you can modify these packs.
  • Keybindings and Actions are Controller Supported

How To Install Adventure Backpacks

  • AdventureBackpacks works best when installed using R2ModMan
    • JVL and YamlDotNet Mods are dependencies
  • Install Adventure Backpacks into it's own FOLDER inside of the BepInEx/plugins folder.
    • Create a folder called Translations and ensure all Translation files are stored in there.
      • Translations files should be named AdventureBackpacks.<language key>.json
  • Adventure Backpacks is a client-side AND server-side mod and should be installed on both.
    • If using on Dedicated Servers:
      • Configuration Lock and Sync is automatically enabled for configured Admins
        • All Syncable settings will be synced to connected clients, and server configs will be enforced.
        • Admins can change server configs using a Configuration Management mod or adjusting the config file directly on the server.
    • Network Compatibility Enforcement is enabled.
      • This is to prevent data loss on a dedicated server if one client is running the mod, but another client isn't. In particular, you could lose your backpacks and everything in them if someone opens a chest and doesn't have the mod.

Gear Introduced In This Mod

  • The 6 Original Adventure Backpacks are:
    • Satchel - A small backpack capable of holding things.
    • Rugged Backpack - A rugged backpack, complete with buckles and fine leather straps.

    • Arctic Sherpa Pack - An arctic backpack, fit for long treks through the mountains.
    • Lox Hide Knappsack - An adventuring backpack made from extremely durable lox hide.
    • Explorers Wisppack - A finely crafted, mystical backpack. Complete with it's own Box of Holding. No one is quite sure how it works.
