Better Smelter

A Valheim mod that lets you load more ore and fuel into Smelters and Blast Furnaces, maximize the charcoal kiln, and increase beehive honey — without breaking other machines.

Since the Deep North update, windmills, spinning wheels, charcoal kilns, the eitr refinery and the Frost Kilns all use the Smelter system. Better Smelter detects these machines and leaves them 100% vanilla, so they never stop working.

Features

• Smelter & Blast Furnace: configurable max ore (default 50) and max fuel (default 100).
• Spinning Wheel, Windmill & Eitr Refinery: capacity multiplier (default 2 = double the vanilla queue). Machines without fuel (wheel / windmill) only scale their input; the eitr refinery also scales its soft tissue fuel.
• Charcoal Kiln: configurable max wood (default 100) and speed (default 2x).
• Beehive: configurable max honey (default 50).
• Shift + Interact (E): adds the maximum amount at once on every station (smelter, blast furnace, charcoal kiln, spinning wheel, windmill, eitr refinery).
• Machine-safe: windmills, spinning wheels, charcoal kilns, eitr refinery, siege machines and Deep North frost kilns stay vanilla unless explicitly scaled.

Requirements

• Valheim 1.0+ (Deep North update)
• BepInEx 6 (BepInExPack for Valheim)

Installation

1. Install BepInEx 6 and run Valheim once to generate the folders.
2. Copy BetterSmelter.dll to Valheim\BepInEx\plugins\.
3. Launch the game; the config is created at Valheim\BepInEx\config\com.alan.bettersmelter.cfg.

Controls

• Interact (E): add one item / fuel as usual.
• Shift + Interact (Shift + E): adds the maximum amount at once.
• Empty: empties the processed output as usual.

Build

Open BetterSmelter.slnx in Visual Studio 2022+ and build Release. The project references the game assemblies under the Steam install path (Steam\steamapps\common\Valheim); adjust the hint paths in BetterSmelter.csproj if your install is elsewhere.
