README

Chaos Roulette

A LabFusion gamemode for BONELAB. Everyone gets scattered to a different corner of the map and rolls two random perks. The rolls are different for every player, and they swing from absurdly lucky to hilariously unlucky.

"You rolled... One Shot Pistol and Super Speed." "You rolled... Crowbar and Nearly Invisible." "You rolled... Blindfolded and Frozen Legs. Better luck next time."

How it works

  1. The host starts Chaos Roulette from the LabFusion gamemode menu.
  2. Every player is teleported to a different spot on the level.
  3. A "Rolling..." message appears in front of everyone.
  4. Roughly three seconds later you get your reveal: "You rolled... X and Y".
  5. The two perks are applied to you for the rest of the round.
  6. The round ends after the configured time limit (default 5 minutes) or when the host stops the gamemode.

Rolls are host-authoritative and shared through the gamemode's network metadata, so all players agree on who got what. Each perk is simulated locally by the player who owns it, which keeps the network traffic tiny and the reactions instant.

Perks

Lucky

Perk Effect
Super Speed Move about 2.4x faster
One Shot Pistol An M1911 that one-shots anything, plus infinite ammo
Crowbar / Katana / Sledgehammer A free melee weapon, placed in your hand
Shotgun M590A1 with infinite ammo
Super Strength The Power Puncher
Nimbus Gun The flying Nimbus Gun
God Manipulator The Dev Manipulator
Box Turret A deployable turret
Juggernaut 8x vitality and 2.15x height
Bouncy Bones You auto-bounce off every landing
Ant-Man Shrink to about 0.5x height
Kaiju Grow to about 3x height
Infinite Ammo Endless ammo
Invincible You cannot die
Nearly Invisible Your avatar goes see-through

Unlucky

Perk Effect
Blackout You ragdoll and your vision blacks out for a few seconds, again and again
Ragdoll Every 5 Seconds Exactly what it says
Blindfolded Your screen blacks out in 8 second bursts, with 4 second gaps to see
Frozen Legs You cannot move
Empty Pockets Your ammo is drained constantly
Glass Bones 0.3x vitality
Butterfingers You randomly drop whatever you are holding
Molasses Move at about a third of normal speed
Backwards Day Your movement controls are inverted
No Hands Your arms freeze in place and you cannot interact with anything
Absolutely Nothing Nothing at all happens. Sorry.

Rolling both a lucky and an unlucky perk (or two of the same kind) is entirely possible - that is the point.

Players can hurt each other while a round is running, so a lucky roll really can decide the round. Die and you are out until the timer runs out - you drop back at the spawn point and watch the survivors.

Installation

  1. Install MelonLoader 0.6.x for BONELAB.
  2. Install LabFusion and BoneLib.
  3. Drop ChaosRoulette.dll into your Mods folder (or install with a mod manager).

Configuration

In-game, open the LabFusion gamemode menu and select Chaos Roulette - its settings group lets you change the minimum player count, the round length and whether players are scattered at the start. The same defaults live in UserData/MelonPreferences.cfg under [ChaosRoulette].

Set the minimum player count to 1 if you want to test the gamemode on your own.

Notes

  • Requires LabFusion. The gamemode will not work in a non-Fusion (sandbox) session.
  • Health, height and invincibility perks use LabFusion's lobby overrides, so they only apply inside a Fusion lobby - host a lobby (even alone) before testing.
  • Every roll and every applied perk is written to MelonLoader/Latest.log with the prefix Chaos Roulette:, which makes it easy to see exactly what the game did.
  • BONELAB cannot be tested by a mod alone - please report anything that misbehaves with a log.
