BackFlip
Realistic, button-free flipping for BONELAB. Swing your arms, jump, and flip, just like the real thing. Inspired by the Blade & Sorcery mod Realistic Flipping Spell by BLAZEVENTURA904.
How to use it
- Install the mod (see below) and load into any level.
- Swing both arms in the direction you want to flip, then jump (your normal jump button)
within about a third of a second of the swing.
- Swing back (arms up and over behind you) for a backflip.
- Swing forward for a front flip.
- Swing to the side for a side flip.
- Swing harder to flip harder. A faster swing jumps higher and spins faster.
- Keep moving while you flip: your hands and head are still yours, so you can look around, reach out and grab things mid-air.
- Land on your feet. The flip is timed to your jump, so a good swing brings you round just before you touch down. Land early and you ease back upright.
Normal jumps don't flip you. A flip only starts when both arms swing fast in the same direction right before you jump, so reaching for the jump button or moving one hand won't set it off.
Tip: to check it's working, open BoneMenu > BackFlip and press Test Backflip.
Features
- Flip direction comes from your swing; height and spin speed come from how hard you swing.
- Realistic rotation: a quick throw, fastest mid-air, slowing as you open out.
- Your physical body flips with you, and the flip carries you the way you're flipping.
- Rotate around your head, hips (default, like a real flip) or feet.
- Flip kicks: catch an enemy with your feet mid-flip to damage it and knock it back.
- Wind rushing past while you spin, a thud on landing, and controller haptics.
- Multiplayer (LabFusion): other players see you flip. Everyone needs BackFlip installed to see each other's flips. Works fine without Fusion too.
Settings (BoneMenu > BackFlip)
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Minimum Hand Speed | How fast both arms must swing to flip. Raise it if normal jumps flip you; lower it if your swings don't. |
| Flip Hand Speed Multiplier | How much a faster swing adds height and spin. |
| Jump Power | How high a flip launches you. |
| Spin Speed | 1 = finish the rotation just before landing. Higher spins faster. |
| Flip Travel | How far a flip carries you its way. 0 = straight up. |
| Landing Recover Time | How long you take to ease upright after an early landing. |
| Invert Direction | Flip the opposite way to your swing. |
| Rotate Around | Head, Hips or Feet. |
| Body Follows Flip | Your body flips with you. Off = only your view flips. |
| Flip From Climb | Whether jumping off a ledge you're holding can flip you. |
| Sounds / Volume / Haptics | Audio and controller rumble. |
| Flip Kicks / Kick Damage / Kick Force / Kick Min Foot Speed | Flip kick settings. |
| Test Backflip / Test Frontflip | Flip on the spot. |
| Resync Body | Snaps your view and body back together if they ever drift apart. |
Settings are saved in UserData/MelonPreferences.cfg under [BackFlip].
Installation
With a mod manager (recommended): install with r2modman or the Thunderstore Mod Manager. MelonLoader and BoneLib are installed for you.
Manually: install MelonLoader and BoneLib, then put BackFlip.dll in your BONELAB/Mods
folder. For multiplayer flips, install LabFusion too.
Troubleshooting
- Normal jumps flip me: raise Minimum Hand Speed.
- My swings don't flip me: lower Minimum Hand Speed. Every jump writes a line like
Jump! peak hand speed = 4.20 m/s (need 3.00)toMelonLoader/Latest.log, so you can set the threshold between your normal jumps and your real swings. - Flips feel too fast or slow: adjust Spin Speed and Jump Power.
- View and body feel out of line: press Resync Body.
