README

ChumBucket

A bucket you can drop anywhere in How to Fish. Chuck your catch in, hit one button, sell the lot. Beats walking every fish over to an NPC one at a time.

Using it

Press J to drop the bucket in front of you. Press it again to pick it back up. (Note: J because the game already owns most of the keyboard. Bind it to something vanilla uses or another mod uses and you'll have some keys fighting)

Throw fish in, the walls keep them from rolling off. Then look at the yellow button on the rim - it tells you what's in there and what it's worth, and interacting sells the whole pile.

Money goes to the shared pot, same as feeding an NPC.

Who needs it

The host needs it. No way around that one - the game only lets the host sell things, so a client on an unmodded host gets a bucket that won't pay out.

Every client who wants a bucket needs it. Your bucket is yours alone. Nobody else sees it, and you can't throw fish in someone else's.

Players without the mod are fine, nothing breaks for them. They just don't get a bucket.

Where Needed?
Host Yes. Nothing sells without it
You, wanting a bucket Yes
Other players No. They just don't get one

Config

Setting Default What
1 - General / Enabled On Turn it off without uninstalling
1 - General / Place Key J Drop and recall. Modifiers work, e.g. J + LeftAlt this key was chosen as to not overlap other mod keys or the game's debug keys.
2 - Bucket / Bucket Size 1.4, 0.8, 1.4 Outer size in meters. Bigger holds more, looks worse
2 - Bucket / Place Distance 1.2 How far in front of you it lands
2 - Bucket / Headroom 0.25 How far above the rim still counts, so a fish poking out still sells
2 - Bucket / Bucket Color #38424DFF Walls and floor
2 - Bucket / Button Color #D9AD26FF The sell button
3 - Host / Max Sell Distance 8 Host only. Sell requests from further out get dropped
3 - Host / Max Sell Box Size 6 Host only. Caps how big a box a client can ask the host to sell

Colors apply the moment you change them. Size and headroom re-place the bucket. Everything else takes effect on the next press.

Both 3 - Host settings only matter on the machine hosting - they're there to stop a modified client pointing the sell box at half the island. Yours are ignored when you're a guest.

Planned Features

  • Make the bucket sync to others, so only the host needs the mod and everyone can see it
  • Custom model for the bucket instead of building primitives at runtime
