Tidehaul Nets
Put a fishing net on your crew's boat, let it fill, and use the swiveling crane to bring live fish onto the deck.
For How to Fish 1.0.12, Steam build 25127368, on Windows. Works with or without Gambler's Reach. This is a beta release.
Install
- Select How to Fish in Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman.
- Install B3rries-TidehaulNets in a separate modded profile.
- Let the manager install BepInExPack and B3rries-ExpansionKit.
- Start the game through the mod manager.
For a manual install, install the dependencies first, then copy the
package's BepInEx folder into the game folder. Keep only one copy of the
shared ExpansionKit runtime. Close the game before updating.
Everyone in your crew needs matching game, mod, and runtime versions. Gambler's Reach is optional, not a dependency.
Buy and upgrade the net
Look for the packed-net crate alongside the fishing or weapon shops. It sits on a wall shelf, or on a small counter at an open-air market. The crate is only a display: buying it automatically installs the net and winch on your unlocked boat. You do not carry or place a kit.
One purchase equips the whole crew and uses the shared wallet.
| Purchase | Cost for this step | Available from | Fish capacity | Haul time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Net and winch | $1,200 | Island three | 3 | 24 seconds |
| Geared winch | $2,000 | Island four | 3 | 16 seconds |
| Reinforced net | $3,500 | Island five | 5 | 16 seconds |
Buy upgrades in order. Later shops also sell earlier tiers. If Gambler's Reach is installed, its harbor shop sells the first two tiers. The net must be empty and stowed before upgrading.
Use the net
- Stop the boat over deep, clear water.
- Interact with the winch. The boom swings out and lowers the net in 8 seconds.
- Let it soak. Every 14 eligible seconds adds one fish, up to its capacity.
- Interact again to haul. Stay near the winch; interacting again pauses it. Leaving or disconnecting also pauses the haul, so a crewmate can take over.
- When the net is raised, interact to tip the live catch onto the deck and stow it.
The fish are alive and can escape. The net does not kill them, pay you, or keep them in a pen. Finish your catch, then use the normal carrying, cooking, storage, and selling controls.
You cannot drive until the net is unloaded and stowed. The helm explains why it is locked. If the net is still lowering, interact to retrieve it early. Stow the empty net to drive again.
Lowering and catching pause if the boat moves too quickly or the water becomes unsuitable. The boat can still bob and drift normally. Hauling remains available so you can recover your gear.
What it catches
No bait is needed. The net catches ordinary native school fish: Angelfish, Bluegill, and Yellow Boxfish, plus Bass after island five is unlocked. It does not catch bosses, quest items, trophies, or shiny fish. Upgrades change haul speed or capacity, not species or catch frequency.
Saving and older kits
Purchased upgrades, in-net fish, and deployment progress are saved with the crew. There is no offline fishing. An interrupted haul reloads paused.
Once released, fish follow the game's normal save rules. Loose living fish are not saved as loose world items. Kill and secure the catch before quitting if you want to keep it.
If you have a carryable net kit from an older verified build, hold it at the net shop and redeem it for the base installation without paying again. New kits are no longer sold.
ExpansionKit uses a separate modded save profile. Back up that entire profile before updating, keep its sidecars and backups together, and do not remove required mods from a crew that uses them:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Dazed Games\How to Fish\ExpansionKitProfiles\<SteamID>\
Known limits and help
The mod is tested with native gameplay and separate local co-op processes, including late joins and operator handoffs. It is not a guarantee of compatibility with every other mod, every game version, or long Steam co-op sessions.
If a purchase or action is refused, read the on-screen message first: the boat may be locked, moving, in shallow water, or already equipped. For loading errors, check that all players have the same versions and that ExpansionKit is installed once. Back up saves before troubleshooting.
For a bug report, include the game and mod versions, host/client role,
steps to reproduce, and the relevant BepInEx\LogOutput.log excerpt.
