FAQ

Short answers to the questions players and hosts ask most. As of version 0.10.0. The other pages of this wiki have the details.

Playing

Does everyone in the lobby need LethalRPG? Yes, everyone, in the host's minor version: from 0.10.0 that is 0.10.x. A player without it, or with another minor version, can still play, but LethalRPG is off for them in that lobby: no budget share, no XP, no purchases. The mod warns everyone when that happens.

Do 0.9.x and 0.10.x play together? No. Different 0.10.x versions work together, so nobody has to update at the same moment for a fix; for a new minor version, update together.

Do I lose my skills when the crew gets fired? No: upgrades and budget are reset (the host can turn that off with ResetOnGameOver), XP and skills stay in your profile, and rpg rebuy buys your build again. Only with ProgressScope = Save do they belong to that save, and then they are reset with the upgrades (unless the host turns that off).

Are my XP and skills per save? By default no: they are in your profile on your own PC and go with you to every lobby and save. A host can set ProgressScope = Save (from 0.10.0): then XP and skills belong to that save, everyone starts there with 0 XP and no skills, and your own profile is not changed on that ship (with the default SaveScopedSkills = Both it is not used either). You get the notice Progress on this ship when you join such a lobby. See "Saves and profiles".

Can I take my upgrades back? rpg refund (or RESPEC on the STATS tab) shows what you would get back; rpg refund confirm resets your upgrades and skills and gives back 50% of what you spent (the host's RefundPercent). Before a respec makes your profile smaller, LethalRPG keeps a backup of it; rpg profile lists the backups.

Why is a skill greyed out, or why does it say NEED? A skill needs a level in a related upgrade (and an ultimate a unique skill) before it can be learned, and enough XP. The info box says what is missing, e.g. NEED 12 XP; the TREE view and rpg tree show which upgrade each skill hangs under.

Why can I not buy anything right now? Buying works on the ship only. Right after joining, purchases wait a moment until the host's LethalRPG data has arrived. While someone else is at the terminal, purchases that use the group credits go through only at the terminal itself.

Does it work in singleplayer? Yes: alone you get the whole budget share; RulesPreset = Solo pays the upgrades straight from the group credits instead.

More than 4 players? With MoreCompany, tested in LAN with 8 players (automated, on one PC, in orbit); Steam lobbies are not tested yet.

Hosts and other mods

A host has other rules than mine. Whose apply? The host's, for everyone in the lobby: how the budget is split, prices, team or personal upgrades, difficulty, balancing. Only 5. Interface (this PC) and 6. Run journal (when you host) are your own. rpg info and the RULES tab show the rules in effect.

Why are settings greyed out in LethalConfig? In someone else's lobby the host's value applies, so only your own sections can be changed; pointing at a greyed-out setting says why. A RulesPreset other than Custom also decides some settings; set it to Custom to change them one by one.

Does it work with LateGameUpgrades? Yes. 14 of its upgrades do the same as one of LethalRPG's; by default both add up, and with OverlapPolicy = PreferOtherMod (or RulesPreset = LguCompanion) only the LateGameUpgrades one works. See "Compatibility".

Why is the Inventory upgrade off? A player in the lobby has a mod that manages item slots itself (ReservedItemSlotCore, HotbarPlus, AdvancedCompany or LethalProgression). While they are there, the Inventory upgrade is off for everyone. LethalThings' Utility Belt works together with it.

Does the host record anything about me? Only if the host turns on RecordRunJournal (off by default): it writes a journal of the runs on the host's PC, with players only as P1, P2, …, and sends nothing anywhere. Players with a compatible LethalRPG get a notice when they join; players without a compatible LethalRPG are not told, so the host should tell them.

About LethalRPG

Where is my bug report? rpg report (or WRITE BUG REPORT on the RULES tab) saves it as BepInEx/LethalRPG-report-<date>_<time>.txt in your mod manager profile and copies it to the clipboard. It names players only as P1, P2, …, never by name or Steam ID. See "How to report a bug".

Why is LethalRPG in Thunderstore's "AI Generated" category? Its code was largely written with an AI assistant, and Thunderstore has a category for that. LethalRPG is checked with automated tests and automated LAN games on one PC; what is not tested yet is on "Known issues & limitations".

Is there a way to move my progress from LethalProgression? No, LethalRPG does not read LethalProgression's data: you start with 0 XP, no upgrades and no skills. See "Coming from LethalProgression".
