Features
In vanilla, to gather Gaberries (or any plant, trees, ore vein, fishing spot or chests) you have to stop right in front of the source, facing it, then hold the interact button for more than a second.
With Gathering:
- Any side. The source is detected all around the character, back included, up to 3 m away.
- The nearest wins. When a source competes with other interactables in reach (another bush, dead wood, a door...), the nearest one becomes the active one, whatever the character faces.
- Short press. Gathering, or opening a chest that opens on hold, needs a 0.2 s hold instead of 1.25 s (or instead of 3 s).
- Facing. The character turns toward the source when the gathering (or opening) starts, so the animation reaches for it.
Configuration
In BepInEx\config\tchernobill.gathering.cfg, or in game with the BepInEx Configuration Manager:
| Setting | Default | Vanilla | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Distance | 3 m | about 2 m in front, much less on the sides | Maximum horizontal distance to a source |
| Angle | 180° | roughly 60° | Maximum angle between where the character faces and the source; 180 = any direction |
| Hold Time | 0.2 s | 1.25 s | How long to hold the interact button; 0 = on press |
| Nearest Wins | on | off | The nearest interactable is the active one when a source is in reach |
| Face Source | on | off | Turn toward the source when gathering or opening starts |
| Mining | on | Also apply to ore veins and crystals (mining pick) | |
| Fishing | on | Also apply to fishing spots (fishing harpoon) | |
| Chests | on | Also apply to chests and the other loot containers (supply caches, hollowed trunks, corpses, junk piles...) |
Plants and trees are always handled.
This mod makes the game easier.
Beware, ease is a close friend of boredom.
Compatibility
- Doors, items on the ground and characters keep the vanilla detection and hold time, except that the nearest interactable wins when a source is in reach (Nearest Wins).
- Tools are still required where vanilla requires them (mining pick, fishing harpoon), locked chests stay locked, and empty sources stay empty.
- Detection is local to each player: in multiplayer, every player needs the mod to benefit from it, and nothing is sent over the network beyond vanilla's own messages.
