REPO Optimizer

A client-side performance mod for R.E.P.O. It is built for weak PCs (old dual-core CPUs, integrated graphics, 6-8 GB RAM) but every feature can be switched on or off in the config.

Only you need it. Other players do not need to install anything, and the mod does not change what they see (except the host-only enemy fix, see below).

What it does

Performance

  • Distance culling - models, lights and 3D sounds beyond a configurable distance are hidden or muted. Players, valuables, the cart, the truck, the map and text screens are protected.
  • Particle removal - blocks and hides particle effects (enemy particles are kept by default).
  • Water - removes water particles (splashes, bubbles, foam); optionally hides the water itself.
  • Graphics options - shadows, texture resolution, anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, LOD bias, pixel lights, reflections, camera far clip, post-processing, optional simple shaders.
  • Presets - Safe, Low, Potato: one value fills in the whole config.
  • Low-memory guard - when free memory drops below a threshold the mod switches to a lite mode (all particles blocked, shorter distances, no water, no new temporary effects) and unloads unused assets.
  • Fast start - the mod scans the level more often for the first seconds after loading so optimizations apply almost immediately.
  • FPS counter - toggled with F9.

Extras

  • Cart value - a line under the quota showing the total value of everything in the cart.
  • Enemy fix - if an enemy sits at 0 HP without dying (for example thrown into a pit), the mod finishes it. Works only when you are the host and only if the game's enemy health members are found (the log tells you).
  • Render nothing key (default J) - stops drawing everything on all cameras for a huge FPS boost while AFK. Press again to restore.
  • Mute key (default M) - silences everything you hear (or only voice chat with Target = VoicesOnly). Press again to restore.

Both hotkeys can be rebound, and can require Ctrl so they do not trigger while typing in chat.

Quick start for a weak PC

  1. Install and launch the game once.
  2. Open BepInEx/config/REPOOptimizer.Performance.cfg.
  3. Set Preset = Potato (or Low) and save. Restart the game.
  4. Close other programs while playing.

If something looks wrong, set Preset = Safe to turn everything off except distance culling, then re-enable features one by one.

Privacy and safety

  • The mod makes no network requests and sends no data anywhere.
  • It reads free system memory using the standard Windows function GlobalMemoryStatusEx.
  • It writes files only locally, in BepInEx/config/REPO_Optimizer/, and only when you use the debug tools (F10, F11) or enable DebugLog.
  • It uses Harmony to patch ParticleSystem.Play and Object.Instantiate (to block particles and detect new objects in lite mode).

Troubleshooting

  • Something disappears that should not - add its name to General -> ExcludeObjects. Use F11 (aim at the object) to see its name.
  • Map is black / text screens are empty - make sure Distance -> ExcludeLayers contains the map layer; F10 lists layer names.
  • Crashes when memory runs out - use the Potato preset, set Quality -> TextureQualityDrop to 1 or 2, keep MemoryGuard enabled, and close other programs.
  • Enemy fix does nothing - check LogOutput.log for the EnemyFix: line. The game's class names may have changed in an update.

Compatibility

Tested on game version 0.5.1 (Unity 6) with BepInEx 5. Other mods are not known to conflict, but mods that also change graphics settings or particles may fight with this one.
