Build-A-Base 0.5.0 - Freedom & Design Update
Build, paint and furnish your own base in Schedule I, alone or with friends. Buy building supplies and furniture from Big John's Junk, a shop on the street-front plot near Handy Hank's (it's on your map, and the host can move it), then connect your base to the game's own deliveries, workers, storage and equipment.
New in 0.5.0: basements, blueprints you can share, piers over the sea, a road up into the east hills, a settings page, new looks for every building piece, 18 new wallpapers and a much smaller YouTube helper. The full list is on the Changelog tab.
Requirements
- Schedule I 0.4.7 on Steam's normal (stable) branch, tested on 0.4.7f12. Build-A-Base is an IL2CPP mod, so it won't work on the Mono ("alternate") branches.
- MelonLoader 0.7.3, installed automatically by your mod manager.
- Windows 64-bit. YouTube on TVs needs an internet connection and Microsoft Edge WebView2, which comes with Windows 11 and up-to-date Windows 10.
Installing
Install with r2modman or the Thunderstore Mod Manager and start the game with Start modded. Everything comes in this one package, including the YouTube TV companion (about 3 MB).
If a PC doesn't have WebView2, the TV says so: install the WebView2 Runtime from Microsoft, then restart the game.
Prefer installing by hand? Use the Nexus Mods download, which is laid out for the game folder.
Back up your whole save folder before updating. Your bases are saved next to the game's own saves, so they're the same whether you play through a mod manager or a manual install. Saves from earlier versions are converted automatically.
Safety switch: if a game update ever removes something Build-A-Base needs, it switches itself off and a red message at the top of the screen says to look for an update. Don't save until you've updated it.
Playing together: everyone needs Build-A-Base 0.5.0 and the same set of other mods. Prices, workers per base and the other game settings follow the host's settings automatically.
Building
Press F7, aim at clear ground and start with a foundation. After a save loads, and whenever you hold a building kit, F7 Build-A-Base shows with the game's own key prompts at the bottom left. A teal preview can be placed; a red one tells you what's in the way. Each piece uses a building kit from your inventory, and removing a piece gives the kit back. Materials: wood, brick, concrete and sheet metal.

Pieces include floors, foundations, walls, windows, doors, double and garage doors, stairs, ramps, driveways, railings and stair railings, fences, columns, flat, sloped and hip roofs, gable and slope walls to close roof gaps, light switches and delivery bays. Bases use a 4 m grid and can have up to 512 pieces. Foundation supports reach down up to 8 m, so you can build out over slopes and drops, and out over shallow sea on piles. Trees, bushes, hedges, rocks and grass in the way are cleared while a piece stands there and come back when it's removed. Roads stay protected.
Each base has its own name. Your first floor or foundation, or one more than 8 m from your other bases' floors, starts a new base and asks for a name. Each base needs a different name. Within 60 m of a base you can add to it instead.
Basements
Pick Basement in the build menu (Structure) and aim at a floor on your ground floor. A see-through outline shows the room that will be dug: green if it fits, red with the reason if not. Click to dig it; each room uses one floor kit.
To get down there, dig two rooms side by side, then pick Basement stairs (Stairs) and aim at a floor tile over the basement. The stairs replace that tile and lead down into the room beside it. With ordinary stairs picked, green tiles show where stairs down fit, and Page Down works as a shortcut for both.
Walls, doors, railings, columns, lamps and light switches work down there, and workers walk down to their stations. Basements dig their own ground, and they go under floors, not foundations.
Painting
Open the Paint tab: 33 finishes on three pages, including 21 illustrated wallpapers, plus twelve named colours and a colour wheel. Painting changes only the face you click, so a wall can have a different inside and outside. SURFACE switches to the trim.
Furniture
Big John sells over 210 furnishings. They include seating, tables, storage, lamps and ceiling lights, rugs, artwork, kitchen and bathroom sets, curtains and blinds, a wall save button, outdoor furniture, and a Garage & workshop section (crates, pallets, racking, drums, a generator, motorbikes, ladders). Place them with the game's normal furniture placement on your floors, walls and ceilings.
- Outdoor furniture (flower boxes, bird baths, patio tables, loungers, pergolas, paving, benches, planters, mailboxes, tents and more) goes straight onto open ground within 20 m of your base, slopes and uneven ground included. So do the lamp post, street light, garden spotlight, pallets, crates, drums, the generator and the choppers.
- Ceiling lights, fans, pendants and the chandelier hang under a roof or under an upper floor: aim at the ceiling, and turn them with Q/E. Wall items always hang upright.
- Every lamp and light follows the base's light switch, and each also has its own E switch. The ceiling fan's blades turn while its light is on, and the fire barrel's flame flickers.
- Small things stand on tables: the table lamp, paper lantern, laptop, old computer, boombox, books, vase and ice bucket go on tables, desks, counters, the bedside table, the TV stand, racks and crates. Aim at the table top. A table with things on it can't be picked up until they're taken off.
- Sit on chairs, sofas, benches, stools, the waiting bench, the patio chair pair and the barber chair with E, and lie back on the garden lounger.
- Curtains and blinds open and close with E.
- Sinks (kitchen, bathroom and the garage utility sink): hold a watering can or spray bottle and press E to fill it, like the game's own taps.
- Storage: kitchen and bathroom cupboards, the bedside table and the TV stand each have 2 slots; the wooden crate and cubby shelf have 4.
- Sell furniture back at Big John for 40% of its price: pick it up first, then use Sell furniture back in his shop.
- Daily offers: one item is 25% off each day, and one rare design is available.
Lights, TVs and saving
- Each lamp has its own E switch; a base's wall switch turns all its lamps on or off. The new lights' own switches also work in the game's own properties.
- Only the few lights nearest you cast shadows at any moment (the rest still light the room), which keeps big, well-lit bases smooth.
- YouTube on TVs: use a placed TV with E and pick YouTube. It needs an internet connection. The sound plays on each player's own speakers, louder the closer you are. A small ad filter is on by default (it can't block every ad). It doesn't work on Linux or Steam Deck yet.
- Saving uses the game's normal save. Your base is stored next to the save as
BaseBuilder.json. If something would make a save unsafe, an amber Saving paused banner explains why.
Deliveries and workers
Place a Base Delivery Spot near your base and give it a name. It then appears as a destination in the phone's Deliveries app, including for Big John's supplies. Hire workers as usual, assign them to the base and set them up with the management clipboard (also from F10 → your base). Workers open the base's doors automatically; you can turn that off under ACCESS. At 4 AM, or when they can't work, workers wait in front of their locker.
Cleaners take trash bags to a Skip placed near the base (Big John's, Outdoor), or to a spot on the ground just outside it. Either is emptied every night when you sleep, like the game's own skips.
Access
Each base has an owner. Under F10 → ACCESS choose who may build, paint and remove: just you, trusted players, or everyone.
Settings
Open SETTINGS from F10 or the build menu. Every change applies straight away, without a restart, and is saved to MelonPreferences.cfg in your profile.
- Display: UI size, placement guides, and the building and screenshot keys.
- Game: creative mode (build without kits), building outside your properties, and workers per base (1 to 20, default 10).
- Prices: an all-prices scale, the brick, concrete and metal costs, and each kit's price.
- Big John's: the host can move his yard to just in front of them, or send him back to his usual spot.
In co-op the host's settings count. Guests can see them but not change them.
Blueprints
- Save: build menu > BLUEPRINTS > NEW BLUEPRINT, then click two corners on one of your bases. Everything between them, on every floor, is saved with its materials, heights and paint. F10 > SAVE AS BLUEPRINT saves a whole base.
- Place: pick a blueprint and press PLACE. The building follows your aim as an outline, red where a piece can't go. Q/E turn it, Page Up/Down set the height, and a click builds it all at once. Ctrl+Z removes it again in one step.
- Kits: the list shows what a blueprint needs and what you have. BUY THE REST fills Big John's phone cart with the missing kits. Blueprints are free in creative mode.
- Share: COPY CODE puts a short code on your clipboard to paste in Discord. A friend presses PASTE CODE. Blueprint files are in
UserData/BaseBuilder/Blueprintsinside your profile folder (Settings > Browse profile folder in the mod manager). - Four starter blueprints come with the mod: a cabin, a garage, a brick workshop and a fenced yard.
Removing the mod
Before uninstalling, move furniture, equipment and workers off your bases, clear deliveries, remove the bases and save. Removing only the mod leaves the game pointing at objects that no longer exist.
The mod keeps its built furniture models in UserData\BaseBuilder\ModelCache (about 10 MB) so the game loads faster. It is safe to delete at any time; it is rebuilt on the next start.
Bugs and help
Press Ctrl+F7 in game to save a report, then post it on the Nexus Mods page or in #bug-reports on the Build-A-Base Discord.

Created by xIlusionz. Schedule I and its models and materials are by TVGS; the mod reads them from your installed game and does not include them. Uses MelonLoader, Harmony and Il2CppInterop. The TV companion uses Microsoft Edge WebView2 (the WebView2 SDK) and .NET libraries under the licences in its licenses folder.
