README

Menu Overhaul

Graphics settings, better weapon and map menus, a mods section for editing configs, and lots more.

Graphics settings

The OPTIONS page gets a GRAPHICS row (value EDIT, after VSYNC). Press A on it to open the GRAPHICS page; B or BACK returns to OPTIONS. The game's own ANTI ALIASING setting moves to the top of that page (it works and saves exactly as before). Left/Right changes a setting (the 0-100 sliders stop at the ends; the others wrap around), and every change shows straight away. DEFAULT is the game's exact look, so you can always go back.

Row Values What it changes
ANTI ALIASING ON / OFF The game's own setting, moved here from OPTIONS.
BLOOM OFF / LOW / DEFAULT / HIGH The glow around bright things (weapons, effects, menus).
VIGNETTE OFF / LOW / DEFAULT / HIGH The darkening around the edges of the screen.
ABERRATION OFF / LOW / DEFAULT / HIGH The colour fringes toward the edges of the screen (chromatic aberration).
PAUSE BLUR ON / OFF The blur, darkening and fringes behind the pause menu. OFF keeps the game sharp behind the menu.
BRIGHTNESS 0 to 100 (steps of 10, 50 = the game's) Brightness of the game (not the menus).
CONTRAST 0 to 100 (steps of 10, 50 = the game's) Contrast of the game (not the menus).
SATURATION 0 to 100 (steps of 10, 50 = the game's) Colour strength of the game (not the menus). 0 is black and white.
FILM GRAIN OFF / LOW / MEDIUM / HIGH Film grain over the game. Off by default.

Controller buttons (KEYBINDINGS)

KEYBINDINGS is rebuilt for controllers. It opens on a grid with a column for each controller player (P1 to P4, in their colours) and a row for each action: JUMP, ATTACK, BLOCK and THROW.

  • Everyone edits at once, each with their own controller. Move up and down your column with the stick or d-pad.
  • Press A on an action, then hold one or two buttons and let go: those buttons are now that action. A button you take is removed from any other action. START cancels.
  • Changed actions are marked with * until you save.
  • RESET puts your column back to the game's buttons.
  • Along the bottom: KEYBOARD, SAVE and BACK (Left/Right to pick). SAVE keeps everyone's changes, BACK drops them. The player who paused can also leave with B or START (without saving).
  • A tip under the buttons explains all this in the game.
  • Button names follow each player's controller: A / LB / RT on Xbox pads, CROSS / L1 / R2 on PlayStation pads, B / L / ZR on Nintendo pads.
  • KEYBOARD switches to the game's own keyboard bindings page, which gets an EDITING row at the top to switch back to the controllers. If no controller player has joined, or the game was paused with Escape, KEYBINDINGS opens on the keyboard page.

Buttons you can use: A, B, X, Y, LB, RB, LT, RT and clicking either stick. Moving and aiming stay on the sticks and d-pad, and START still pauses.

Layouts are saved per player slot (P1 to P4) in BepInEx\config\MenuOverhaul.controllers.txt, so whoever plays P2 gets P2's layout. Enhanced Bots' bots and the keyboard player always keep the game's bindings.

MAPS and WEAPONS screens

GAME OPTIONS' MAPS and WEAPONS screens become two-pane lists: groups on the left (with how many are on), their entries on the right, and an info line underneath.

  • Up/Down move, Right enters the list, Left goes back to the groups.
  • A switches a map/weapon on or off, or a whole group on the left.
  • X switches everything in the group on (or off, if it all already is).
  • LB/RB change group. B in the list steps back to the groups; B on the groups closes the screen.
  • Keyboard: arrows, Enter, Q/E, X, R (= Y), Backspace (Escape closes).

MAPS: the game's map groups (Woods, Desert, Factory and so on, MY MAPS for your level editor maps, WORKSHOP for subscribed maps), a preview picture of the selected map, and how many maps are in play. Y switches the game's RANDOM ORDER setting.

WEAPONS: the game's weapon rows and the selected weapon turning in a close-up window with its stats: damage (and headshot damage), fire rate, ammo and recoil, plus a note for the weapons that do something special. With Spawn Rate Changer installed, each weapon also shows its share of the drops and its tickets.

Using Weapon Framework? Its WEAPONS screen is built on this one (Weapon Framework needs Menu Overhaul), with the same close-up and stats, and it also lists modded weapons and their categories (plus ticket sliders with Spawn Rate Changer).

MODS

A MODS button under KEYBINDINGS lists every installed mod that has settings (except the ones with screens of their own: Menu Overhaul's settings are on OPTIONS > GRAPHICS, and Weapon Framework's and Spawn Rate Changer's on the WEAPONS screen). Press A on one to see its settings as option rows, like the game's OPTIONS page:

  • Left/Right changes a value (A also flips ON/OFF and cycles choices). Numbers stop at their limits.
  • Y puts the selected setting back to its default (shown under the list, with the setting's description).
  • B goes back to the list, then to the pause menu.

Changes are saved to the mod's config file straight away. Free-text and keyboard-key settings are shown but can't be changed here yet (text settings with a fixed list of choices cycle like the others). Settings are locked during online matches.

Pause menu

  • Only the player who paused controls the pause menu, including resuming. Everyone else's buttons do nothing until it's closed. If they paused with Escape, the keyboard and mouse own the menu. If the owner's controller disconnects, anyone can take over. (The lock can be turned off: OnlyPauserControlsMenu.)
  • "P2 PAUSED" in the pauser's colour above the pause buttons, when 2 or more players are in.

Fixes

These keep the game's look and just make things work:

  • The "Game Options" button is written in capitals like the others (GAME OPTIONS), and its page title matches the button. Stray line breaks in some labels are gone, and GAME OPTIONS and KEYBINDINGS use the same text size.
  • Going back from a page selects the button you came from, not RESUME.
  • Closing the map or weapon screen lands on MAPS / WEAPONS again.
  • GAME OPTIONS wraps from the bottom to the top, like OPTIONS does.
  • EDITOR no longer gets stuck on "ARE YOU SURE?": every pause starts with EDITOR again.
  • The volume and screen shake rows stop at 0 and 100 like sliders, instead of jumping from 100 straight to 0.
  • Clicking the mouse while a controller player has the pause menu no longer stops their controller from working.

Config

BepInEx\config\stickfight.menuoverhaul.cfg, your mod manager's config editor, or MODS in the pause menu. The graphics settings are listed above and easiest to change on the GRAPHICS page.

Section Setting Default What it does
Menu OnlyPauserControlsMenu true Only the player who paused can use the pause menu and resume.
Menu ShowWhoPaused true Shows "P2 PAUSED" in the pauser's colour above the pause menu when 2 or more players are in.

Compatibility

Fully playable with controllers and needs no mouse. Everything here is visual or only changes your own menus and buttons, so it's safe to keep installed online. The pause lock only affects the pause menu on your own screen.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

1.0.3

  • Fixed a memory leak in the game itself: every finished match (and every RESTART) kept the old lobby in memory, about 100 MB each time, never freed. Same fix as First To N 1.0.3; with both installed only one of them does it.
  • MAPS: the map previews use much less memory (about 140 MB less once you've looked through every map). They look the same.

1.0.2

  • Pointing the mouse at a value's arrows no longer steps the value over and over.
  • Values changed with the arrows (OPTIONS, GAME OPTIONS, GRAPHICS) no longer make the row and its number flicker.

1.0.1

  • Mouse and keyboard: pointing at a button selects it, right click goes back. MAPS / WEAPONS: the wheel changes category over the categories and moves through the list over the list (Shift+wheel changes ticket values). MODS: the wheel scrolls, the scroll bar can be clicked and dragged, R or Delete resets a setting. Only for the keyboard player, or anyone when the menu isn't locked to a controller.

  • Menu texts are redrawn as soon as they change, so a row can't keep showing its old text after a page switches (MAPS and WEAPONS rows, the info line and preview text, GRAPHICS values, the KEYBINDINGS grid, the MODS page's title and description, "P2 PAUSED"). The MODS page had this once; the same fix now covers every page.

  • KEYBINDINGS: if no controller with a column is connected any more (for example the pauser's controller disconnected), any controller's B or START leaves the page. Before, only the keyboard could get out.

  • KEYBINDINGS: a lobby reload while the controller grid was open no longer leaves the menus without controller input after the next pause.

  • MAPS / WEAPONS: the keyboard shortcuts (Q/E, X, R, Backspace, the arrows on ticket values) no longer work while a controller player owns the pause menu.

  • MAPS / WEAPONS: the selection stays on the same row when the list is rebuilt while the screen is open, instead of being lost.

  • MAPS / WEAPONS: the on/off box on the highlighted row now looks like the others (a dot in a box when on). Before, "on" looked like an empty box there.

  • Less work every frame: "P2 PAUSED" isn't moved while it's hidden, KEYBINDINGS doesn't re-read the saved layouts every frame, the MAPS screen works out its names once, and the weapon preview makes no garbage while it's open and switches its light off with the camera.

1.0.0

  • First release.
  • GRAPHICS page: bloom, vignette, aberration, pause blur, brightness, contrast, saturation and film grain.
  • KEYBINDINGS for every controller at once: hold the buttons you want, then let go. Layouts are kept per player slot in config\MenuOverhaul.controllers.txt.
  • The player who paused owns the pause menu ("P2 PAUSED"); other controllers can't change it.
  • MODS page (button under KEYBINDINGS): every installed mod's settings as option rows. Left/Right changes a value, Y resets it, B goes back; saved straight away, locked online.
  • MAPS screen: map groups on the left, their maps as a list in the middle, a preview of the selected map, and an info line. A switches a map or a whole group, X all on/off in a group, LB/RB change group, Y switches the game's random order, B steps back. Uses the game's own map selection, so saving, the map rotation and online play are unchanged.
  • WEAPONS screen in the same style: the game's weapon rows on the left, their weapons with their share of the drops in the middle, and the selected weapon turning in a close-up window with its stats (damage and headshot damage, fire rate, ammo, recoil) and a note on what's special about it. Uses the game's own toggles, so saving and spawning are unchanged. Weapon Framework builds its WEAPONS screen on this one.
  • Fixes for the game's menus with a controller: readable selected buttons, selection returning to the button that opened a page, keybinding navigation, B cancelling a key wait.
